  1. Back in the Saddle Again !!! Rojas and Gubi discussing that today is Gene Autry's birthday -- nice shot of the statute just outside the park on the walk way.........
  2. if anyone cares, Kershaw pitching a gem (I think has given up one hit through five innings) , LA Dogs lead Giants 2- 0. Kershaw-Bumgarner match up. Dogs win and they clinch the NL West. Hoping they don't do it tonight or tomorrow (at AT & T) - but with Kershaw on the mound -- the weak hitting SF Giants may be over-matched tonight. now Dogs HR makes it 3-0 ......yeah, I know, no one here cares.
  3. He is pitching well -- thinking too far ahead....... Halos could be playing a one game do or die game Monday/ Tuesday and then , if they win, head right into a Division series where they might use a 3 man rotation. We going to have to have short leashes on the starters if the Halos make the playoffs and have plenty of middle inning arms ready.
  4. still the bottom of the fourth here -- this Halos inning taking a toll on the 'Pace of the Game' advocates.
  5. I'd have a very short leash on Trop -- even with the six run lead. Well, maybe I let up a bit on the choker chain -- but not much.
  6. Tigers playing out the string of a very disappointing season. they gave up two months ago when they fired the GM and started a sell off, Verlander, though, decided to become the Verlander of several years ago during the second half.
  7. our pen really needs to hold this lead for us....... I see Trop going maybe 5.
  8. perhaps a guy named Harper playing for the Nationals should take note of what Pujols did there. maybe Papelbon can send him the tape.
  9. base hit -- scores the Albert manufactured run.........
  10. Albert's stolen base -- if that doesn't get the Angels pumped up -- nothing will. 'beats out' the infield single, steals second -- c'mon Halos gotta get him home for the third run.
  11. Good stuff -- great mention in Forbes...... but did I read that listing right? -- We're behind the Dodgers site?? Say it ain't so. and the Orioles number one site -- really?? I would have guessed St. Louis or (start throwing stuff at me now ) the Red Sox nation (even if I can't stand the BoSox and think they have the most obnoxious fan base).
  12. ah, I don't join the DiPoto haters group -- I wish him well, -- OK - not that well because he's gone to a Division rival and will use his knowledge of the Halos organization and what he learned about the rest of the AL West against us - but I never dis-liked DiPoto -- I think he got the Halos GM job in a situation that was doomed from the start -- Scioscia calls the shots, not the GM. Scioscia still will with the next GM as well, regardless of what is said publicly about the issue. Oh well, Good for DiPoto.
  13. I don't see Latos with us beyond seven games -- but he could earn a Spring Training invite. and with the issues in our rotation -- having him compete for the fifth/ sixth (middle relief / spot starter) spot -- I'm OK with it. pencil him into the Tempe rotation.
  14. seven games left in the season, expanded rosters, proven MLB pitcher who was very INEFFECTIVE this year -- but with some of our arms on the DL, not a bad move. with our pen at issue, Latos can pitch a middle inning or three.
  15. I'm pleased for DiPoto -- I think he will do well up in the Pacific Northwest and the organization and area may suit him better. I wish he didn't go to Seattle because they are a division rival and I am convinced DiPoto will not only make them better but use his knowledge of the Halos organization and the rest of the AL West against us. As for the M's -- it's an upgrade for them -- they may have been one of the most disappointing teams (them and the Washington Nationals) in MLB this year. Good for DiPoto -- I wish him well, but not to do that well.
  16. Halos need to do something. And I think they need to stock up their farm system.......... what happens to the big club and Trout's time with us while we are doing that -- I'm not sure. but this season shows we have organizational depth issues and other issues. what is really frustrating about this year's club is that from April through pretty much mid-July -- the starting rotation pitched much better than expected, The team hit well at times........but the middle inning pen stuff hurt us and defense.......... we were right there on the verge of a stretch run, when the wheels just came off in August. Now we're scrambling with time running out.......as I stated before, I think the Halos are going to stay just close enough to make it real frustrating to be eliminated from playoff contention on Wednesday or perhaps Thursday of the final week of the season -- hey that's almost a week away !! Good thing NHL pre-season is starting up !!
  17. Ole Miss beating Bama again -- At Alabama -- OUCH.
  18. with the way the Halos played in August and into September -- I can hardly wait until the LA Kings opener and the start of the NHL season..........
  19. I was wrong -- Gott wasn't the second player in that deal -- Carlos Perez was. still think it was a good deal for us and for Conger. Perez is pretty good behind the plate -- an upgrade over Conger on D if I remember Conger's time behind the dish here right. Iannetta was pretty good behind the plate when we first signed him after his years in Colorado -- but this year and even part of last year, to me anyway, his defense behind the plate fell off significantly.
  20. The Conger deal was a pretty good one for us --- didn't we get Gott in that deal?? (as sort of the 'second' guy in the trade with who else? Tropeano (spelled wrong?). And it was a win for Conger who wasn't getting or going to get playing time here under Scioscia. Why? Not sure -- but Conger certainly had some defense issues behind the plate while developing with the Halos.........now Conger is getting more playing time -- he's on some sort of platoon over in Houston and they've had a good season despite their late season faltering here. It's great for the local guy to get regular MLB playing time........good to see him get the chance and making the most of it.
  21. Ianetta has had a dismal season -- but he has played well for the Angels during his tenure here. Acutally, I think Perez is a pretty good catcher and prefer him behind the plate at this point. I agree that Ianetta's time with the Halos is at an end.
  22. Angels are doing exactly what I thought they would -- they're going to hang in there on the edge of a playoff spot -- and make it real frustrating right until the end when they fall short. Meanwhile Texas wins the AL West by default and Houston could wind up (with the Angels) completely out of the playoffs.
  23. 'we need to turn the page on this one" -- Scioscia quote in the first paragraph of Monday's LA Times story of Sunday's fiasco. that sweep of Houston would have meant we're sort of back in business in both the Division title race and the Wild Card race. instead, a key loss like that during the second week in September and in the way it happened..........well, we're done. of course, many of us just knew that Angels would find a way to win a few games, go on a bit of a run, keep the hopes up a bit -- only to see them dashed in a game like that. Texas beat Houston tonight -- I think they're a half game apart right now..........
  24. Well, we probably should have kept Rutledge over Featherston coming out of ST -- that would have sent Rule 5 guy Featherston back to Colorado which the Angels didn't want to do.. So once the Angels made that decision, the loser of the second base battle (Giavotella vs. Rutledge and others) coming out of ST was destined for AAA.........if every one may recall, Giavotella simply out-played everyone to win the second base job and, it could be argued (and has been) that the second base job was Rutledge's to lose coming out of ST -- AND HE DID. Rutledge -- having some significant MLB time (well, Colorado) part of it in a starting role, played all of 2015 at AAA at SLC -- and then he got dealt to Boston for rental Victorino (we got VIctorino because Halos didn't have the farm system, money or players or all the above to trade for the one guy who could have really made a difference in the OF and on the team-- Cespedes -- so we got three rental outfielders going for quantity not quality for the stretch run -- but Stoneman did Rutledge a real favor by dealing him to Boston -- Rutledge has gotten some significant playing time -- probably a platoon situation over there at Boston where guys were hurt -- and was starting pretty much every game for a period of time there. But don't cry over dealing Rutledge or getting Victorino -- neither one was going to be a Halo in 2016.
