  1. MADSOME -- as in 'he cost us SOME" that Madson deal has to go right up there with some of the other great Halos F/A contracts of the past -- although Madson may have the Halos records --- most money spent for least games played -- I think he even beats Josh Hamilton for this award;......
  2. Norris had a great ST -- apparently he left it in Arizona....... you know, when you go the cheap route with MLB rehab projects --- this kind of stuff results. now watch the A's rehab projects come in from the pen and shut down the Halos (Madsen and former SF Giants closer Casillas).
  3. now Ryan Madsen is up in the A's pen - gonna shut down the Halos to nail down the win. The same Ryan Madsen we signed for a bundle of money and I think he pitched the equivalent of one bull pen warm up session for the Halos in the three years he was under contract..........of course he's going to come in and do a shut down inning for the A's.............
  4. Hey folks -- we're losing our first series of the season -- to the Oakland A's -- picked by most to win about 70 games. the game was going fairly well until that one play..............
  5. 2 games into 2017 season and we're already snake bit ???
  6. A little league game has broken out...........geez 6 to 4. Marte ALMOST made a spectacular play but GEEZ did it go downhill from there.
  7. second game of the young season and what is the crowd at the Oakland Coliseum? I wonder if it will break 20,000 tonight? Now, the Warriors (who were the first team to make plans to bolt Oakland -- they're heading to a SF area next year) and Stephen Curry and company are playing right next door tonight.........but Geez - new season, you've got the best player in MLB in town and you can't fill the best seats or any seats for that matter? that's why heading north to watch an A's - Angels game makes sense - can get better walk up seats there than a season seat at Anaheim........although, I think Halos may be in for some attendance blues of their own this season........
  8. geez - i thought this was a baseball forum/ thread and we were talking about Escobar and how he does or does not fit into the Halos line up/ plans. oh well.
  9. If you watch that Ragai steal attempt -- Rajai got a great jump (on the pitcher)........Maldonado's throw made up for the great jump.
  10. Maldonando can be the pitcher's spot in the line up. we need him to sacrifice runners over with perfect bunts and to hit behind the runners (without a GIDP).
  11. Maldonado may not hit a lick but he's solid behind the plate and can sure wipe out those base runners. Gotta love Simmons at SS as well. Strong up the middle -- old time approach -- like it.
  12. Goodnight Irene (no playoffs for us this year) and a fond farewell to Bob Miller -- Kings hockey simply won't be the same. It's really unfortunate the way Bob Miller's final two seasons unfolded -- with him missing much of last year and then this year -- Jonathan Quick going down and the Kings fading fairly early and then with the All Star game in LA with Bob Miller sort of a major part of the festivities -- he goes down and is pretty much lost for the season (as were the Kings). Final games this weekend going to be very bitter-sweet. Probably better for Bob Miller's health that it's not a critical must win game that ends up being a nail biter to make the playoffs........... Bob Miller will really be missed. He really made watching LA Kings games a real treat. He was a normal humble guy with a great sense of timing with his sharp wit.
  13. I thought Escobar played fairly well for us last year -- made contact and was really our only true lead off guy -- not the best on D at 3B or any INF position, but give the guy a break......
  14. News reports had him in critical condition (ICU wing) in NY hospital. Guy could hit -- also was known to party pretty heavily both during and after playing career. always sad to see someone in such condition but lifestyle choices over the years may be coming home to roost here.
  15. geez - two games in. wow. having said that - if Halos have a win total like last year's -- a below .500 season -- well, not sure he gets fired but a kick upstairs could happen.
  16. he's truly a remarkable player -- and nothing seems to phase the guy, the stats he has accumulated during his still relatively short career places him among the best to every play this game. I still think if he would have gotten that 50th stolen base that second year it would have been real tough to deny him the MVP award.
  17. thanks for the reporting and the analysis -- appreciated it. could not spend much time paying attention to ST games this year so the reports were really helpful.
  18. Bailey apparently had an awful ST as did some others. the AW.com column entitled ST winners and losers was very enlightening -- especially since I didn't watch many games and missed most of ST........ at the end of the day there were maybe 3 or 4 spots that were being contested........everything else seemed pretty set this year. Bailey had a spot set on the roster and almost played himself off it......still might. Why do I think Skaggs is one pitch from the DL? Pretty good line up at the plate and on the field.......... question marks -- starting rotation, pen, closer (the entire pitching staff) and offense from the catcher's position (pretty weak).
  19. no problems with the radio feed on AT BAT app..........I prefer to listen to the games anyway -- don't have the time to sit and watch.
  20. was listening to part of the KC Royals/ Minnesota Twins game today (opener for both teams at Minnesota ). PBP guy Steve Physioc managed to squeeze in a mention about Napoli -- phrased something like "Mike Scisocia used to tell Mike Napoli.........."
  21. Victor Martinez -- DH -- Duluth Highlands !!! LOL!!
  22. AZ threatening to win game in 9th with winning run on third..........terrible debut by SF Giants new expensive closer Melancon.......even if he gets out of it. Base hit by Owings for walk off win by D-Backs. Two out ninth inning rally started with double by JEFF MATHIS -- who makes FERNANDO RODNEY (who blew the save in the top of the 9th with Wild Pitch/ Passed Ball help from Rodney/ Mathis) the WINNING PITCHER.........
  23. of course just as I posted that, Mathis rips a double in the bottom of the ninth (with two outs). He has a single, double and did I hear a triple ? today. three hits..........I don't think he had many, if any, three hit games for the Halos. Now AZ ties it up............Mathis scores tying run with two down in 9th -- I guess my prior post was up there too soon...........
