  1. Only scenario I see Halos extending Trout is if Arte finds a buyer for the Halos , puts together a deal to sell the Club and the new corporate ownership (not a sole proprietor trying to navigate the MLB waters with the mega corporate giants) anticipating a new media deal , get involved in the extension discussions
  2. How about this - let's enjoy Trout in a Halos uni while we have him. Count me among those who think we can't keep him and that as his contract gets about a year from its end, Halos will be literally forced to trade him to a team that he agrees to a long term contract with - Yankees & Phillies would not only open their bank vaults to sign him but Trout would want to go there- then we wind up sort of with another Vlad/ Pujols situation - do they enter the HOF as Halos ? No doubt in my mind Pujols goes in as a Cardinal. Vlad - not so sure. Trout? If it's Yankees where he winds up - well East Coast probably trumps Anaheim
  3. I posted about two weeks ago that signing Fister would probably be as close to a No Harm No Foul (thanks Chick Hearn) move we could make as long as we did not over-pay. Our rotation needs some help and he's worth a flyer. I thought that then, I think it now. But GEEZ -- did I get a lot of smack talk posts back from that post.........saying he hasn't been an effective starter in almost three years now. I guess we'll find out. Who's Lincecum pitching for these days??? Geez, the shelf life of top quality MLB starters (and as a multiple Cy Young award winner, Lincenum was certainly a top quality MLB starter) is quite short these days and the end comes quickly......almost like these guys fall off an effectiveness cliff..... from top of the game to can't get anybody out seems to happen real fast these days.
  4. JT Snow might be a defensive liability today but not back during his playing days. His time with the Angels was short but memorable as a very good defensive 1B -- we got him from the Yankees and traded him to the SF Giants -- I think we got SP Alan Watson (is that the right name?) for him. I went to a Spring Training game at Scottsdale between the SF Giants and the Angels the first ST after the trade --- Watson started for the Halos.......the score was something like 17-2 SF Giants after two plus innings..........needless to say, Watson's ST debut did not go well.........didn't do much more for the Halos after that. JT Snow meanwhile was a solid 1B for the Giants infield for almost a decade, Aside from Erstad the other 1B 'Gold Glove' level guy we had was the late Jim Spencer......
  5. Harper is actually ripping the ball right now and playing pretty well in the field, he's on the way to MVP numbers if he keeps up his current pace. in recent years, the constant Trout/ Harper comparisons got old -- Trout's numbers and performance/ stats were so over the top, Harper was barely visible in Trout's rear view mirror.......and then Harper had a real sub-par stat season in 2016. Harper is making up for that right now.......
  6. worth a mention here on the main page !
  7. Lamb just got chopped. OUCH. 2nd bust is 100 games and 3rd is an outright ban -- I think that's the way the elevating sanctions go.
  8. Lincecum was injured for four years comment -- well, he wasn't the pitcher he was before but over that 'four year' period, Linceum had some pretty solid starts for the Giants including a no hitter if I am remembering right.......and during 2014 season -- and I think I have this right -- he had some excellent starts mixed in with some real duds. He was frustratingly inconsistent that year. In 2015 I think he actually ended the year with some quality starts to the point the Giants were thinking about offering him a one year deal but (smartly, as it turns out) decided not to. perhaps Fister should sign with Colorado and become a Bud Black reclamation project. If he gets pounded, well, it's Coors Field........
  9. Stradling's got it right with that list -- all three were pen guys who became pretty solid there for a period of time. Ken Hill was very impressive and, I , too , thought it was great when we got him -- unfortunately he didn't do much after that. I remember getting Greinke late in the season, I think he got hurt right away and either missed a start or came out in the first inning, something like that, by the time he got back on the mound, the Angels were out of the race. He was a rental that didn't work out value wise. As for my prior post about Fister being an 'upgrade' for us because almost anything is at this point -- MAN, I get called out by none other than JEFF FLETCHER who tracks the Angels day by day closer than almost anyone else........OUCH. But I'm sure he's right........I just remember Fister not that long ago being an effective starter for Detroit and then Washington Nats? Right? And not that long ago.........GEEZ, these guys fall fast and far quickly these days.
  10. we should be sellers. Many folks who follow MLB and I expect all the Halos posters here hear this from folks they see on a regular basis -- say that Halos should SELL/ TRADE Trout. I disagree....but oh well. I do think we should be sellers at deadline time 2017. We are hovering around .500 which is far more than I expected us to be one week into May. My concern is that we continue to bumble along at .500 and have a legitimate (on paper) shot at one of the wild card playoff spots.......then that puts us potentially OFF the list of SELLERs and we become a BUYER -- yet realistically, we have little to buy with and whatever we can afford to buy won't really make a difference in 2017. So we wind up where we seem to wind up in the past -- bad deadline deal making us weaker, giving away something we could have used in 2018 and beyond and paying too much either for a rental or a player who was a salary dump for the other team and adds payroll for 2018. I can see us getting to the situation described above - not because it's in the Halos' best interest but because Mike Scioscia needs to show some results in 2017.
  11. for us, right now, Fister is a definite upgrade.
  12. I stand somewhat corrected it was Eddings.....Bucknor played his role as well. ironically, shortly after I posted this, I was listening to the audio feed of MLB's "AT BAT" doing the equivalent of channel/ station flipping. ran across the Chicago White Sox game -- can't remember who they were playing - most of listened to the game for all of five minutes -- during that time the announcers were criticizing the home ump's ball/ strike calls saying they were very inconsistent from pitch to pitch and that the players were complaining seemed upset as well..... the ump? Doug Eddings.
  13. I wouldn't wish for either San Jose or Edmonton......... want either one of them tired after seven games......
  14. there it is -- empty netter............Ducks moving on -- next opponent's first round going six games at least.
  15. silverberg tried.........got deflected........ Ducks playing decent D to stop Calgary from just making it a shooting range..........
  16. Detroit not in the Cup playoffs Chicago Blackhawks one game away from elimination by Nashville!! Five Canadian teams in the playoffs trying to end a Cup drought since 1993. is this really the Cup playoffs???? Seems a lot different. Calgary gonna be charging hard here the last three plus minutes.
  17. just saw Hank Conger's name on the AAA Reno Aces roster to start the season.
  18. CALZONE - stop trying to use reason and logic with the Halos signings........it won't work. and YES, signing Torri to that one year maybe a one plus one year option would have avoided the whole Josh Hamilton fiasco. but then, it wouldn't be the Halos front office and F/A signings.
  19. what's wrong with Calhoun? Contract extensionitis........happens when player signed to long term deal.........side effects: reduced production.
  20. meanwhile 2-1 Ducks third period.........15 minutes remaining
  21. good guy to have for bench depth and 4-A type player MIF back up. also a good guy to have for September call up period -- just hoping Halos' games are still meaningful in September...... it's looking like they won't be and we'll see a lot of empty seats at Angels Stadium.........
  22. wow - Maldonado has pretty much taken over the starting role and the Carlos Perez/ Maldonado platoon plans appear to be over. don't know anything about the new call up -- assume he's more of a hitter than Tony Sanchez or Carlos Perez and will catch on Sundays/ day games after night games.
  23. meanwhile, Ducks up 2-0 -- about eight minutes left in the first.
