  1. Trivia answer - neither one above is right. Here's another clue--- which should cause you to figure out the name........ He won an AL batting title as a Halo.........
  2. nice twin bill for TV viewing tonight -- Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals and then Long Beach State Dirtbags vs. Texas Longhorns at Blair Field vying for a spot in the super regionals on the way to Omaha. Did I read somewhere that Darin Erstad's Nebraska team lost to Yale???????
  3. If Marte never plays another game at first base, it will be too soon. Marte's a gold glover at DH.
  4. Am sure some of you have been following the NCAA Regionals from Blair Field this weekend.......some great games....... Texas and Long Beach State really going at it --- tied up right now 3-3 in the 8th........Dirtbags need to win to play Texas again tomorrow night.........last night, today and hopefully tomorrow - these Texas- Dirtbag games are great. Western regional is tough and now BEACH takes a 4-3 lead in top of the 8th. Both teams wearing their pitching staffs out -- but some really great baseball !!!
  5. been tracking the guy's starts (at least on paper -- Box Scores) - not that impressed and as a Boras client he'll demand a fortune. I wouldn't spend that on him. If his value time with Pirates is running out, he'll likely be traded as a rental to some contender before deadline and then pursue F/A in off-season. I don't see Halos being part of playoff push -- so no need for us to consider him as a rental.
  6. Piersall passes away the week the ChiSox announce that Hawk Harrelson will be back in the booth for his 34th season. Harrelson annually wins (usually very easily) the WORST broadcaster in baseball label. RIP Jimmy Piersall -- Fear Strikes Out. Trivia -- can you name another former Halo who sort of set a precedent in MLB re treatment of mental issues/ compensation?
  7. if Pujols manages to hit number 600 in his next AB, last one of the night -- well, why not? 11-2 game, the pitcher can just pitch him straight.......no breaking balls, just challenge him and maybe groove one....... but if he makes it 11-3 here with a bomb -- would be sort of an odd celebration -- No. 600 and we're down 8 runs.......
  8. the Angel Stadium 'look ins' during Pujols AB's........ the nation's fans see what? -- a lot of empty seats -- Pujols' apparent complete inability to run at all. -- Pujols flailing at pitches and getting fooled on breaking balls....... -- Hopefully a 600th home run somewhere in there...... -- and what don't they see?? Mike Trout ABs.
  9. always great to see a back of the pen mop up come into a game with the job of 'please don't make it worse' and then the mop up guy gives up four runs and turns the game into one where they start looking to position players to pitch the ninth.
  10. Grichuk has played well for St . Louis at times and has been their starter in the OF -- at least on a platoon basis. He must have really fallen out of favor to be optioned out to CLASS A ball. But, as has been pointed out before -- the best minor league instruction/ instructors is given at the A and AA ball level. The Triple A roster is full of bitter guys trying to hang on and wondering why they're not in the bigs, a few players who are 4-A players apt to be called upon at any moment to sub in for 25 man MLB roster guy who goes on the DL and then there's a player or two a step away from the majors who just missed making the team in March. so maybe Grichuk being sent to A Ball really signifies that the Cards have not given up on him -- if they had, he'd be at the Triple A level.
  11. Well, actually, I think the San Diego Padres did that on opening day (announced that they were sellers and pretty much a write off for the 2017 season)..........
  12. did the Angels hire Bengie Molina as Pujol's base running/ speed coach?
  13. appropriate because it will take a miracle for him to be productive/ help us.
  14. long beach state - san diego state game on ESPN 2 for those bored with this 7-0 rout. Dirtbags scored 3 runs in the first to lead Aztecs 3-0 -- game at Blair Field. the telecast is cutting away for Pujols' ABs,
  15. Down time? 6-8 weeks worth..........Trout out, Angels world stops.
  16. Trout's injury probably saves Scioscia's job for this year and into next.........
  17. Season over....I thought Halos would win 74 games this year -- now I need to adjust that figure -- 68 ? Some thought there were a lot of empty seats at Angels Stadium this year, just wait...........
  18. Was a two or perhaps three term US Senator from Kentucky. Towards the end of his Senate career he was having health issues - age related memory loss. I remember some news reports about some comments he said in a radio interview. His MLB career? One of a few pitchers (Ferguson Jenkins comes to mind) who won 100 games in each league. Pitched a no hitter in each league - one was that perfect game during the Phillies' infamous 1964 year. Not too many pitches had no hitters in each league (Nolan Ryan's name comes to mind). Jim Bunning pitched for about five years with the Dodgers towards the end of his career- and did fairly well. His best years were with Philadelphia (NL) and Detroit (AL). Quite a career for the guy IN Baseball and After. R.I.P.
  19. Good Night Irene -- nice run for the Ducks --- Nashville just too tough and too hot at the right time. when the Predators SWEPT the Chicago Blackhawks -- they were sending notice - WE'VE ARRIVED. Pens join them in Finals tomorrow night meaning no Canadian team in Cup finals since what? '83/84 the McSorley stick series vs. Montreal.
  20. new lease with the COA -- nothing much new in the way of improvements. one get the impression from the outside looking at the Halos moves (manager, player movements/ signings, Stadium lease agreements, long term media deal for about one tenth of what the other greater LA media market team gets , etc.) that the Halos are in a holding pattern. Might as well put up the old TV test pattern screen up before and after each telecast..........
  21. hey, that's a great summary of key decisions (some good, most of the BIG F/A signings bad -- and all of us here at AW.com KNEW it at the time -- GMJ, Hamilton, freakin' Wells trade/ and taking on his contract. Most here were in favor of the Pujols deal even if we thought the price was a bit steep and for too many years.......still- overall-- a good signing then and I still think now -- Pujols slow start with the Halos made a bad first impression and became the headline over time despite his pretty good numbers since. The best day listed above in terms of Halos moves -- drafting Trout. The most over-looked development that has really impacted the Halos (for the worse) -- firing Eddie Bane. Who wrote that piece? Excellent work.
  22. Well, perhaps Cron will have an 0-5 day at SLC strike out 4 times, make an error at 1B and be called back up to Anaheim the next day..........
  23. if we have a pitcher with a quality start this week - let's send him out to SLC !! Now the DUCKS SCORE with 15 minutes left -- 3-2 Nashville.............
  24. When I saw the title to this thread I thought it was a throwback thread from last year resurrected after Cron's slam to show how far he's come,,,,,,, Apparently NOT. And now the Predators score an insurance goal with about 16 minutes left in the third to take a 3-1 lead in Game 6 vs. Ducks. Not a very good day for Anaheim.....
