  1. OUT -- geez - I can't stand what I call the Buster Posey Rule........... catchers should be allowed to block the plate IMO - let's get back to baseball. here -- this play is solid, clean --- no blocking of the plate at all -- but just the fact it can be argued bugs me.
  2. past my bed time......... good night irene. will put TV sleep feature on and will be asleep before the next hitter steps to the plate.
  3. last time we had a pitcher pitch beyond six IP? Nolan Ryan's last no hitter with us ------LOL!! pace of the game committee need to look at individual starting pitchers and then also team stats for Complete Games for each decade of MLB starting in 1960 --- the team stat is telling -- the decline of the Complete Game is what has led to 3 hour plus games.
  4. Calhoun is not a GIDP waiting to happen each time there is a runner on first with less than two outs. Pujols almost seems like one -- he can't run to first base..........I am waiting for the game where he gets a late inning single to right and then the RF throws him out at first.
  5. nice play there-- Simmons runs pretty well so it wasn't a case of throwing out someone like Pujols......
  6. my impression is that the ump on that play was yelling foul so Valbuena heard it - still - don't play ump at third -- make the play.........
  7. Andrelton Simmons is an amazing defensive player and an amazing overall player. he may have the best pure baseball instincts on the team and in the league. am very impressed with the way he plays the game..........day in, day out.
  8. shades of AJP and Chicago -- who was our catcher that game? He played ump when he should have tagged the batter and/or thrown to first. Always blamed our catcher more than AJP for that.
  9. and, YES -- MAKE THE PLAY......... Valbuena don't play ump -- but, here - he was mislead by the ump on the third base foul line.
  10. terrible situation here. it's the home plate's ump's call but the third base ump mislead our 3B. looks foul to me -- can't review it.......bad call all around.
  11. assume it's been commented on -- and am sure you folks all saw it (after last night's discussion about the managerial moves on both sides). --but today's LA Times -- front sport page article of some length saying Scioscia's managing has kept the Halos playing meaningful games in August/ September and perhaps all the way to playoff spot.
  12. have to double check the IP number -- but the deal Nolasco signed with one of his prior teams (MInnesota?), the one the Angels inherited , had a clause that says if Nolasco pitches X number of innings over a two season ('16/'17) time frame -- then the 'option' for the next season converts from a team option to a player option. can't remember what the number is -- 450 IP or something like that. Angels likely want to avoid that.
  13. Nolasco early exit commented on earlier -- folks say it wasn't Scioscia's decision. OK - so how close is Nolasco to the magic number of IP for '16/17 seasons to turn that contract option clause from a club option (for another year) to a player option. He may be getting closer to that IP number than is comfortable for the front office and folks monitoring payroll.
  14. pace of the game folks have some work to do -- and one pitch intentional walks are not going to be 'the answer' -- gotta stop meetings at the mound. -- gotta make pitchers warm up completely in the pen and maybe get ONE pitch from the mound as a warm up after they come in. - the real culprit is mid-inning pitching changes.........gotta limit those some how. -MLB games today average 3/4 pitchers per game per team.........used to be ONE
  15. Joel PInero - that's a name I haven't heard in a while -- assume he's long out of baseball.
  16. way different game in the 60's when Brooks Robinson played. more of a pitching/ defense game in all of MLB -- AL AND NL -- corner guys -- well at least the 3B - was not the power position it is now and has been for a while. Brooks Robinson was an absolute vacuum cleaner at 3B.............just amazing. His Batting Average was above average for 3Bs of his era. Baltimore had FOUR 20 game winners one season - a lot of it had to do with Robinson at 3B and Belanger at SS.
  17. Minnesota probably goes 4-1 vs. Sox........yeah -- not good for us.......oh well.
  18. Beltre is good -- Beltre is NOT BROOKS ROBINSON -- not by a long shot. A. Simmons, on the other hand -- is in a league with Ozzie Smith and Omar Vizquel.
  19. Salmon defending Sosh's moves -- I liked Revere PH because Cowart wasn't looking good at the plate. probably should have PH Revere for Marte the inning before........oh well. how about this - NOT IMPRESSED BY EITHER TEAM and by either manager's moves tonight. Was impressed by Trout, Simmons and Maldonado and for Texas , Beltre and Chirinos (spelled wrong - the Texas catcher).
