  1. just as I post that -- Ducks tie it up. Looked like they were on a power play there. Kings gotta play better D here. going to be a barn burner/ tough hitting third period, I'd wouldn't mind seeing OT and a three point game.
  2. Ducks out playing Kings everywhere but the scoreboard -- so far. Quick coming up big. Gibson making stops. Getzlaf is Getzlaf, We got Doughty !! Kopitar quiet, so far. watch Carter come alive third period,
  3. thanks for the Cueto update. was going to check MLB tv to see if they had started to break into the game. can't get KTLA or KCOP where I am -- that's why I can't get Giants/ Dodgers game and am watching Prime Ticket (Ducks broadcast). Still missing Bob Miller's call of Kings hockey. New guy OK -- just not Bob Miller. Tall task to be asked to fill his spot.
  4. pace of the game stuff. i guess we have this 'trips to the mound' count now and a team can run out of 'trips to the mound' what happens if you make an extra trip to the mound after reaching your limit? Like calling a time out when you have none left? do they bring a hoop out to the mound and the opposing team gets to shoot two three throws? did they penalize you 15 yards and they place a runner a third base ? (even if you had no one on base?) do you get a fourth out? pace of the game research - completely unscientific - not to sample size and all other disclaimers. watching Kings-Ducks NHL game tonight - switching back and forth -- fast action/ all action/ tough to turn channel without missing play action --- few commercial interupptions when I do turn to the Angels/ A's game -- seems like it's always a commercial between innings.......
  5. watching Kings- Ducks -- kinda of moving back and forth --please keep updated on Skaggs hits allowed numbers for this evening's game.
  6. geez -- knew Colon would get picked up -- eats innings and a lot more. but that was quick........he just got got loose last week it seems.
  7. Colon is with Texas? I thought Atlanta or some team dumped him last week of ST. he has hooked on with another team already? Texas? No.
  8. attendance at Oakland tonight? less than the 27,000 for opening day? Vegas Baby !!
  9. KDWells is right -- this does not help the Angels much and is probably a real negative as far as Ward's MLB future is concerned. Unless he becomes a slick fielding 3B/ middle infielder bench depth guy (sort of a Craig Biggio off the bench without the .300 BA) -- he could make it especially for teams wanting to carry d de facto third catcher. but in terms of making with regular playing time, he's probably better sticking behind the dish and moving to another organization.
  10. for those who care at all-- at Honda Center -- KINGS 1, DUCKS 0, start of second period. Doughty scored for LA.
  11. fyi for those who care -- after one at Honda Center -- KINGS 1, DUCKs 0
  12. TANK -- good call on a constant bad call of the game : ANYONE is better than the Chicago White Sox television announcing team with 'the Hawk" BTW - was home watching MLB channel today and caught a bit of MARIO IMPEMBA doing the Detroit Tigers home opener vs. the Pittsburgh Pirates (inter-league game for home opener -- interesting scheduling). It's been a while -- what almost 15 years perhaps -- longer? 20-25 years (can't be that long ago can it?) -- since Mario Impemba was a young Halos second PBP guy/color analyst paired with BOB STARR. Can still remember Bob Starr in a spring training game broadcast during Impemba's first year ( I think they spent ONE year together and that was it?) with that Bob Starr dry wit --' here's Mario Impemba, a member of the flying Impemba Brothers.........." After Starr passed away in that off-season and then Impemba pretty much fell into the lead PBP spot (paired then with Daron Sutton) I always thought the Angels' franchise had really hit a new low (pre-Arte Moreno days) when BOTH Impemba (Detroit) and Sutton (I think Milwaukee at the time) left the Los Angeles/ S. California media market for smaller media market teams....Impemba had sort of a hometown reason, he went 'home' to Michigan to pair for about a season or two with the reduced game schedule for the aging (now late) legendary Ernie Harwell. BTW -- it's years later and don't we all ?-- but Mario Impemba looks pretty well fed in Detroit -- not the skinny young kid any more.
  13. really - pen did pretty well today. i think our pen is a strength for us (I guess until it isn't) but the pen did ok today. you gotta catch the ball. while everyone raves about the Halos defense up the middle (and it's very good/ stellar in fact) -- when you have too many DH type guys who you are trying to hide -- well -- the ball seems to find them -- so there will be some ground ball doubles to RF this year that get past the DH playing 1B and we saw the DH playing LF this afternoon. another aspect of the Ohtani factor.
  14. my point is -- we'll still take Trout. I brought up FLB -- no one else. FLB on my mind today - had a 'great' opening day -- my starting catcher Sal Perez - KC -- a good pick- on DL out about two months. I pick up a quick replacement for him this morning just before start of all games -- that guy goes 0-5 -- the guy I drop to pick him up is the A's 1B/OF (Matt Olson) who hit a dinger against us today. my team bats .150 and my KC starter (not pitching to Salvadore Perez) gives up 3 HRs in one inning..... Opening Day Blues !!!!! But -- hey - BASEBALL IS BACK !! Makes it all worth it.
  15. OK - Trout 0-6 today - sucked - left guys on base etc. how many folks are rushing to drop Trout form their fantasy baseball league teams ? yeah - exactly zero.
  16. well, ominous start. Trout and Upton go OHHHHH Fer. The 'best defensive team' in baseball loses the game on a defensive lapse. OHtani not quite OH fer but not great either. from the small sampling of ABs I've seen of Ohtani -- and it's not very many ABs so not really a valid sample -- but the thing I am surprised by is his first ball hitting and seemingly lack of patience/ discipline at the plate..........I didn't expect to see that.
  17. Juan Rivera still on the Angels roster playing LF ?? had a flashback moment there. Sort of looked like GA drifting back for the ball........
  18. eligbra4ever -- yeah - you are right about that -- but you probably know this -- it is the investor group that owns and runs the park and leases it to its major tenant - SF GIants. RIght? anyway, A's need to move -- somewhere -- anywhere. 27,000 on Opening Day is pathetic.
  19. the City of SF owns AT&T -- not the Giants. the Giants would hate this and oppose it like all heck - but the A's and baseball in the Bay Area would do better to fill that AT&T Park 162 games/ dates a year and share the ballpark. A game at AT&T -- which is a fabulous ballpark -- would draw 25,000 a game for the A's easy. Here, they're drawing 27,000 for OPENING DAY. The Giants -- even with a poor record last season (and the roster certainly didn't reflect that lousy 2017 performance) sold AT&T out most games (45,000).
