  1. Halo fan pal asked the other day if there's any chance we sign Martin Maldonado as a F/A during the off-season. He sure seemed a good fit in Anaheim -- seemed to like it here -- got a nice ovation upon his return with Houston. I don't see us spending the money to get him back in the fold. Solid behind the plate. Liked him here. Oh well, -- he's likely to increase his F/A value with some solid D during the playoffs, (although his D did not seem that sharp at times this season and even with Houston during the recent series versus us -- still think he's pretty solid).
  2. we got him for Kinsler eh? Not Maldonado. pen depth. walking three guys isn't going to make him much of a set up or pre-set up guy. OUCH. then the SALAMI. GEEZ. Buttrey did ok tonight -- he's the other arm we got in the deal. Johnson may be pitching his final games as a Halo in September. these games are important (if not to us, then to the NL WEST - hate to see the Halos pen looking so awful.
  3. Jim Johnson -- has he sort of been the forgotten guy of the pen? I mean he's pitched in 50 games this year - a lot -- but it does not seem that much lately. Either that - or I've really missed a stretch a games (both a possibility). Johnson was once a closer for Atlanta. Now he gives up a GRAND SLAMAI. Way to help out one of your more recent clubs -- the LA Dogs. They needed the Rockies to lose tonight.
  4. finally -- GEEZ. Jerez?? Can't say I recognize the guy as a member of the Halos -- was he a waiver wire deal of some sort?
  5. why is this guy still pitching? is Sosh looking over to Bud Black in the other dug out for recommendations on pitching changes?
  6. top of the 8th - Halos lead Rockies 5 -3. This guy pitching for the Halos - Jerez - who is he? He just walked the first three hitters (I think it's the 7, 8 and 9 guys in the line up) and now the top of the order coming up with one out. YIKES !! Jerez needs to be on the first plane out tonight to Salt Lake City.
  7. I agree with Victor...........nice cover version here. thanks for posting it and the video.
  8. On or before September 15? September 15 is a Saturday -- on Thursday, 9/13 Halos start a four game home series vs. Seattle. Added drama -- DiPoto could be at the ballyard. Or do Halos wait until the week after the World Series is over and hold a press conference with Scioscia there? Does Anyone think he's coming back as Halos manager in 2019?
  9. speaking of the next big sensation for the Halos...........one guy who once was in that category.............. was looking at some minor league team sites -- the short season Single- A Northwest League started up in June after the draft --- The manager of the Vancouver Canadiens -- a Toronto affiliate is DALLAS McPHERSON.
  10. Gloom, Despair & Agony -- is that the name of the guys in the Halos rotation ????????
  11. Agreed - liked this look. Including the CA locking cap which isn't coming back any time soon. So either the A cap or the interlocking LA. I also agree with a prior poster who said - it's not necessarily the choice of uniform style (comment - EXCEPT the PERIWINKLES !) - but let's stick to one style pretty much for road and one for home - and if you want the Red jersey look or some other look for Saturday night home games -- that's OK.
  12. let's stir it up a bit here -- can we use the gray jerseys with the Los Angeles in script across the front ??? Actually, I liked the gray uni's with Anaheim on the front as well....... perhaps if we keep complaining here about the jersey's the front office will respond by bringing back the winged A periwinkles -- UGH (LEE). How about this -- every time the Halos have less than a .500 record they have to wear those periwinkles !!!
  13. OK - you guys have convinced me. I assumed he was drafted as a catcher, played for years (youth ball, high school) as a catcher -- and now suddenly he's a pro and they don't think he's very good behind the dish? Does not make a lot of sense to me -- but the folks posting above -- especially Jeff Fletcher - know this stuff a lot better than I do. Perhaps LOU as well. I think it's likely the guy can flat out hit and the front office folks have concluded it's better if he concentrates on his hitting -- and BTW - third base has been a problem for us since we let Glaus get away........ I still think his catching skills could come in handy -- always nice to have a guy who can perhaps play 3B, DH and then be a third string catcher if the need arises in an extra inning game .
  14. he's probably a catcher like Buster Posey -- a solid hitter who's hitting would be enhanced if the guy was playing 1B or DH (if the NL had the DH which isn't happening any time soon).
  15. I think he was pretty good -- Halos need was more at 3B but then they traded away Maldonado and now the Halos are left without a solid catcher for the future. Meanwhile, Ward, I think - was drafted as a catcher and played most of his pro ball career (and before) there -- and then the Halos moved him this year. So, he's a catcher who can play 3B -- great. Now - have him put the gear back on. meanwhile - we have Ohtani doing the pitching/ hitting thing this year -- why not have a catcher who plays 3B or DH a few days a week and catches about three days a week. Match catchers with the rotation pitcher --
  16. he was a catcher -------- why not keep him there?
  17. PLAYOFF BASEBALL ahead -- not for us. Up the freeway -- Kershaw pitched a gem tonight (Monday night) -- 8 innings of great ball vs. SF GIants. Roberts takes him out after the 8th inning. With Jansen out, he turns to Scott Alexander to preserve Kershaw's gem -- AND Alexander blows the save -- Giants have big inning.........in a key game for both teams -- SF Giants come into LA pretty much needing a sweep to stay in the race. Dodgers battling Arizona for first place.......... Playoff Baseball? Dodgers have a huge hole in the pen and won't go far - IF they make the playoffs- without either Jansen back or some late help from somewhere at closer.
  18. having said that - I might have waited the 15 days to call Ward up on Sept. 1 and then hand him the starting catcher's job. oh well.
  19. Ward is being called up. I guess they doing this third base experiment with him and he may play some games there. IMO, hand him the starting catcher's job for the rest of the season and let him get his MLB start with little pressure and a chance to be next year's starting catcher if things go well. why not ?
  20. some really nice shots -- thanks for posting these and thinking of AW.com in taking these photos during the game.
  21. that pitch looked like a strike. Victor is right - if the catcher simply catches the ball, it's a strike.
  22. we have issues with pen guys. Detroit too This Shane Greene guy gets lit up quite a bit.
  23. hit and run here.......... if so, a Simmons hit scores Ohtani who can fly on the base paths.
