  1. to be difficult to do. He GONE.
  2. Hawk Harrelson's final broadcast today for ChiSox after some 62 years in the game -- a broadcaster since 1975 and with ChiSox since what? 1982. MLB channel guy (former AZ D-backs OF with the Mohawk like hair cut) went on and on about how great Hawk was. To his credit -- he did make mention that Hawk has been voted most dis-liked broadcast announcer several times over the years. Long career for a guy with no talent to be in the booth. I guess ChiSox fans liked him. Good for them. Back when I got the Direct TV baseball package and got a bunch of other teams' games -- when the ChiSox game was on, I'd turn the sound off. HE GONE. Put it on the Board YES !!! Would like to feel a bit sentimental as I do when most long time broadcasters call it a day and call their final game.......but having summoning up any such feelings for HAWK.
  3. don't think Ebel gets the gig. IMO it's Brad Ausmus and unless there's a real uprising in Halo land (when does that EVER Happen? - the fan base seems asleep AT the games, IN the ballpark). If not Ausmus -- then Eric Chavez. I say it's Brad Ausums, with Eric Chavez either bench coach or third base coach. Ausmus for two maybe three years -- then Chavez gets the gig.......... I think. Does anyone think there's ANY chance that Scioscia's back in 2019?? This four game set vs. Houston at HOME has a finality feel about it - I like Sosh and he did much good here -- but this four game set -- many fans may be in the: GOOD RIDDANCE mode.
  4. another NFL game at the Oakland Coliseum -- time is running out on the Raiders. 21-3 -- who scored the eighth inning touchdown?
  5. if facebook games are the wave of the future, I guess a lot of us won't be following baseball. of course, I prefer the radio broadcast anyway ---
  6. Looks like Betts wins it. I also like Lindor for sheer excitement. He's one of the best players to watch play these days. Reminds of Ken Griffey Jr's hey days as the smiling face of MLB- just a little kid playing ball out there and just being better than anyone else. Trout will certainly get some votes. But won't win it. And, I do think a player leading to a team success is important -- so Mookie Betts......better than 'em all in 2018.
  7. Still waiting for the announcement on Sioscia's status for 2019. Thought the Halos would have made it some time this week.......or do they wait until a day or two after the World Series ends? Bobblehead night coming up - the one's they're depicting on the promos shown on the broadcasts show a smiling Sosh -- don't think that would be his usual facial expression. Brad Ausmus or Eric Chavez getting the nod?? Most here want Chavez. Few here (if any - perhaps me only) want Ausmus - (or at least don't think it's a terrible choice like many/most here apparently think).
  8. Bregman, JD martinez and Betts. My vote would probably go to Altuve simply because stats and perhaps injuries aside, to me the MVP is the guy who makes the team go/ tick. Houston leads AL West pretty much wire to wire. Altuve goes down, Houston dips, Oakland makes a run and suddenly it's a race for the division title. If the MVP is for the guy who makes his team better and makes his team win when he's in the line up (sort of a WAR analysis I guess) Altuve I am sure ranks right up there. But he's not going to win it. Trout may get votes and could finish third because Boston guys split votes.
  9. I actually think if Brad Ausmus is named, Halos fans will warm up to him. He seems very personable......acted with total class when let go by Detroit. Seems to take a blue collar approach towards the game. Some may feel a guy like Eric Chavez -- younger and not that far removed from the game -- could relate to today's millenial type players better. Ausmus more OLD SCHOOL (which is probably why I like him - he seems to be in the "Craig Biggio' mold). Chavez may be the better pick of the two -- I still like Ausmus -- but that's me -- old school type in a new world.
  10. why are we debating DiPoto tenure here? It was what it was. And WAS (as in PAST TENSE) is the operable word. He and Sosh could not get along in a working relationship. DiPoto -- who, by all accounts, is a very nice guy and probably fun to be around - made some questionable moves here during his time as GM. He seems to have fared better in Seattle -- although the M's right now are going through a late September fade. Still, the M's were IN it into September which is more than what the Halos can say. When DiPoto signed on with the M's -- other than his being employed by a division rival -- I said then and now -- I wish him well but want the Halos to beat his team and finish above the M's in the standings........no ill will/ negative feelings towards DiPoto here.
  11. My bad - we're still a game under .500 I thought a win would get us even. oh well. tomorrow. at this point, the revised goal is to finish the season above .500.
  12. I'm liking the Simmons/ Fletcher combo at the keystone. darned Angels -- good ballplayers -- real promise -- disappointing record year in, year out. this is why Sosh won't be back.
  13. Simmons makes that play look easy. see, this is what bothers me as a Halos fan...... we have Trout, we have Ohtani and we have Simmons -- who is really a great ballplayer, defensive SS - heart of the team kind of player. and we're battling tonight to reach .500 on the season. meanwhile the Oakland A's are some 30 games or whatever it is - above .500
  14. in jeopardy of falling behind now. come on Parker. Blake is out. Buttrey IN. are we headed for an almost two hour final two innings???
  15. no need to watch this game any more. oh well. would have been nice. winning the game to reach .500 on the season would be nice , too.
  16. Want Sosh back? Not really - don't think it's going to happen. Sosh has been great for the Angels organization and his accomplishments here at the winningest Halos manager of all time is appreciated. But after about what? FIVE YEARS, at least now, of high hopes and disappointing seasons -- it's time to 'turn the page' to use one of Sosh's frequent post game quotes after a loss. I think the managerial sweepstakes come down to BRAD AUSMUS and ERIC CHAVEZ. I'd say Ausmus has the inside track but he seems to generate significant blow back here on Angelswin.com -- not sure why. Didn't think he was that terrible in Detroit -- didn't he also manage in Houston? Eric Chavez seems to be the fan favorite, Angelswin.com choice here. I see a two tier approach - two years of Ausmus during a sort of re-building period and then Eric Chavez - who continues to manage at SLC - AAA ball in 2019, becomes either bench coach or third base coach in 2020 and then Halos skipper in 2021..........that's a scenario I could see happening. Of course, if Halos fans create a huge blow back on the possibility of Ausmus being named - in this era of social media -- that may make a difference.
  17. let's see -- late season game. neither team going anywhere. game means zilch in standings. both teams show zero offense - and game being played quickly. perhaps the 'pace of the game' committee from the Commissioner's office can view the tape for recommendations: I can see it now -- one of those governmental/ organizational type reports that get shelved: REC: Teams with lousy records and no incentive to win, play quicker games. only complaint here by that outfit would be that Angels pitching have struck out too many Rangers.......one pitch out ground balls to second base preferred (there have been those tonight)
  18. seven innings in the books. I'm trying NOT to issue an ALERT -- can you give an ALERT on a bullpen game? Is it allowed?
  19. Not a bad bullpen game through SIX......... perhaps we can bring rotation guys in for the last three innings??
  20. Ohtani and Pujols can platoon. Pujols should be playing part time anyway. Long term - if Ohtani returns to pitching (in 2020 ?) -- not that he'd like this -- but I would take Ohtani out of the rotation and would use him as a two inning pre-set up guy in the 6th/ 7th innings. And I'd maximize his ABs. Ohtaini would play in close to 162 games if I were calling the shots.......in games he did not start as a DH, he might pitch or be called upon to Pinch run. I'd find a place for him to PR in the 8th or 9th.
  21. seems to happen every time - but what do you do? NOT Alert folks?? No. Don't think so.
  22. The HOF veteran's committee should seriously consider enshrining Tommy John into MLB's HOF. His name may be far more recognizable to fans of mult-generations than other players/ pitchers -- mainly because of TJ surgery being named after him 285 wins -- he was on the cover of SI way back when with the Chicago White Sox rotation (about 1965 ?) and then went on to be successful with the NY Yankees and LA Dodgers over subsequent years (including a stint with the Angels and others). 285 wins and being the guinea pig for innovative surgery that literally has impacted (if not changed) the game for pitchers IMO is HOF worthy. Especially when I see the Vets committee putting in some pitchers with lengthy careers and cumulative career stats among the leaders but who - it is argued -- are among the leaders only because they played so long and arguably were not dominating at any point during their career (just the opposite of a Sandy Koufax who had a very short career, not very impressive career stats, but FOUR No Hitters, season record numbers for strike outs (until Nolan Ryan came along -- and both of them had season K numbers the likes of that won't likely be seen again) and was dominating over a five/ six year period of time. Now there's a Tommy John line of underwear -- which I'm fairly certain has no connection to Tommy John, the pitcher. The underwear line marketing folks might want to get Jim Palmer to model the product for them -- perhaps an ad with Jim Palmer where THE Tommy John enters the scene -- perhaps drinking an Arnold Palmer........
  23. actually -- wasn't there a debate (I seem to remember a Sports Illustrated story about this not that long ago) about TJ surgery that was along the lines of: MLB punishes players for taking any type of performance enhancing substance -- but TJ surgery - which arguably strengthens the arm, sort of makes a bionic arm (increasing arm strength) for the pitcher is fully acceptable and arguably is also 'performance enhancing' ban TJ? Seems like it's actually helped pitcher's careers -- there's a list of MLB pitchers and the number of wins they have AFTER TJ surgery. Tommy John is exhibit A -- he won just short of 300 games in his (long) MLB career -- I think his final win total was 285. About half (or more) of those wins were earned post- TJ surgery.
  24. Kirk Gibson does have health issues as posted in this thread. this color commentator gig is likely just through the end of the year. I know it becomes a day to day job at some point and not all as glamorous as it may seem -- but broadcasters (who opt for that life -which means a lot of travel and time away from home/ family) have a pretty good gig and usually the best seat in the house every night........why in the world would folks who have obtained one of the relatively (overall) few coveted broadcaster jobs ever 1.) get into a fight about anything; 2.) get in a fight over a CHAIR? 3.) jeopardize their coveted/ hard to get position by fighting and 4.) over a chair ? Really? seems like there could be a medical component to this story if one of the combatants has had a prior history of such incident(s). Always liked Impemba when he was here. Sorry to see him leave when he did -- but he was going back home to Michigan and to broadcasting college football there during he baseball off-season.......it was the right move for him at the time and now he's 'the long time' Tigers broadcaster.
