  1. as for any one of us dissing the Astros.........well, what was our Halos record against them this year? 7-11 or 8-10 something like that. not exactly Oakland's 17-2.
  2. that clip was from a D-backs game...........geez. that lady is terrible. This sort of reminds me of an incident sort of opposite of that shown, about a year ago I caught a foul ball at the Big-A (September game, too, lots of empty seats) and then handed it to the young kid sitting with his parents a few rows in front of us.........kid enjoyed the baseball so that's great......but did the kid or his parents say thank you or even acknowledge that I have their kid a ball? Not then, not when they got up (before the game was over) and left..........incredible. No big deal.......but people can be incredibly self absorbed......oh well. It was a nice night at the ballpark. as for the Astros, perhaps its the 106 or so losses that has the fans staying away and now? Heck, it's September.....given the choice between watching Texas football practice on TV and a live ballgame, Texans would chose Football every time.
  3. Nothing but good news here.........Aramark is low bidder type terrible. Can't imagine Legends can be worse. What would be really good news is if the Angels do what Seattle Mariners do a Safeco (or at least did about 10 years ago, assume it's still the case)......up in Seattle they let vendors line the outside of the ballpark as you come in and then they let (or at least used to, before all the post 9/11 security stuff) take the vendor food into the ballpark. One of the best brats with sauerkraut I've ever had at a ballpark was one I bought on the way into Safeco. With private vendors vying for business (as opposed to low bidder monopoly style of high prices for lousy food), the food quality way up, prices reasonable and service with a smile. All Good. So long Aramark...........am sure some of the current food service workers will remain but there are a few there that could either be changed out or have an attitude adjustment. I see this "Aramark OUT' as good news.......I mean if your team is having a lousy season, you at least want decent food at the ballpark.
  4. close call there.........looked like he was safe......perhaps it's the ump with the dinner reservation concerns......... well, it's probably both sides and the umps this time of year....... Although, A's still playing for best record.
  5. down three runs in the 8th guy on and two out so Kendrick attempts a steal?? HUH? Someone in the Halos dugout is worried about missing dinner reservations.........
  6. Thanks for posting this...........have read it/ heard it a million times. It never gets old. But when I see it again, it saddens me anew that we never won one for the Cowboy........... would have liked to have seen Gene Autry hoist a World Championship trophy. Instead in 2002 we got Jackie Autry congratulating the "California Angels" -- I guess she must have been listening to the Joe Morgan broadcast of the game......
  7. actually, he lost his way -- was in the parking lot for the Raiders tailgater.......
  8. geez, it can go downhill quick..........seems like just yesterday he was the ace of both leagues.
  9. Because we've been either ten games out or ten games under .500 for much of the second half.........no need to get Trout injured in what essentially have been/ are Spring Training games.
  10. Weaver, Wilson, Richards, Vargas and ?? Goodbye Williams, Blanton, Hanson We need pen guys -- the Madsen thing didn't work out so well. I think we should re-sign Vargas -- he pitched well before he went out with that blood clot type issue or whatever it was.........Sounded like a real health scare.
  11. The Oakland Coliseum was a better than average baseball park back when the centerfield area was open and you could see the Oakland Hills....... then Al Davis got his way with the park and from that day forward it's been a football stadium where the A's are second class tenants sort of like being in steerage section........ The A's keep competitive and winning division titles and in the playoff hunt despite a small budget, an OK market but one that acts like a small market when it comes to East Bay based baseball and a stadium that is unacceptable....... Bud Selig has to get off his tail and make a decision which should be to tell the SF Giants that they have their new ballpark and the A's deserve theirs even if it's in San Jose (which the Giants object to). The underdog A's may become everyone's team if they can make a sustained run in the playoffs........
  12. finally a breaking ball for a strike.........ok to wait on it though -- no GIDP here.
  13. here come the Halos.......... ok guys, be patient.........wait for the fastball -- as Victor and Guby have pointed out and it's obvious -- this guy can't throw a breaking ball for a strike.
  14. Yankees have three against Tampa Bay (at Tampa Bay) and final three games at Houston. If they could sweep Tampa Bay (tall order) they could win out. The Friday night game (I think) is slated to be Andy Pettite's final major league start -- fittingly it comes against Houston at Houston where Pettite had some good years -- Oberholtzer is slated to be the Houston starter -- on any other team in MLB, Oberholtzer would be a 15 to 20 game winner - he's had some really good starts this season....... so that should be a good ballgame.......... Looking at the schedule, I wouldn't count the Yankees out yet -- despite today's tough 2 to 1 loss (with two Yankees tossed out at home in the 8th inning today). But they pretty much have to sweep Tampa Bay.........
  15. St. Louis - Detroit..........although, Detroit has not been playing as well as they were earlier in the season. Who here wants Boston? Anyone? Didn't think so.
  16. Rangers have literally owned the LASTROS this season. I think we split with Texas in the final series and they finish 1 or 2 back of Cleveland.......... Angels will have ZERO pressure on them when they play Texas. If Texas can't beat Houston at least 2 out of 3 -- and a sweep is certainly in the card -- then that's another Texas sized collapse for them.
  17. I have always liked Romine's glove.........if he could just hit .235, it would be worth having him on the team as a PR and late inning defensive replacement. Over the past few years, I seem to be at Halos games in September (expecting meaningful games standings wise only to be disappointed) and Romine has been up as a September call up and getting playing time.......each game he seems to turn in at least one really great fielding gem. If Romine isn't on the 25 man roster out of ST next year (did he make it this year, I thought he did and then the Halos sent him out).......I'd really like to see the Halos let him become a free agent and perhaps sign with an NL team that could use a late inning defensive specialist. at this point, Romine isn't getting any younger and it's only fair to him to let him establish a decent MLB career while he has time so he can get enough MLB time to qualify for an MLB pension. And he could really help some team out there that would be willing to use a roster spot for a PR/ MIF defensive replacement.
  18. KC wins that must win game today vs. Texas with grand slam walk off.......... Cleveland is sitting pretty -- they have SIX games remaining -- having just SWEPT the LASTROS in a four game series, the Indians now have two against the White Sox who are trying to avoid a 100 loss season and 4 against the Twins.....Cleveland has a 1.5 game lead and a nice schedule advantage........Indians should go at least 4-2 in these games, if not better. Texas -- collapsing down the stretch here has a three game set against the LASTROS who Texas has pretty much owned all season -- but then a four game series at Arlington against the Halos who have ZERO pressure on them and are on a roll right now playing essentially the equivalent of March spring training games since about August 15........I say the Halos at least split in Texas. So expect Texas to have something like a 5-2 record (at best) over their last seven games. KC - about 3 games out after today's win play 3 against Seattle and 4 against the White Sox. Royals have been playing good ball in August/September -- really don't have that much pressure on them because no one expects them to make the playoffs -- they could easily go 6-1 or so over their final 7 games.......enough to make it close but no cigar. Yankees and O's are now in a situation where they pretty much have to win out and that may not be enough.
  19. two strikes, two out HR by Smoak which Victor Rojas commented was Smoak's first HR batting right handed this season (is that right?). so how does that happen..........CJ Wilson threw more than just a mistake pitch -- that's horrible. two out, two strike HR........OUCH.
  20. balk -- strange. a bunch of K's, a bunch of bees and now an awkward balk........... strange game. now, Smoak smokes it.......... perhaps Wilson is concerned the Halos might try to give him two more starts if he wins today -- here, that takes care of that.........
  21. Texas will sweep LASTROS this week to get back into the thick of it which will illustrate why Nolan Ryan was so pleased to have Houston join the AL West this year. And then, Texas ends the season at HOME against our Halos.........would be nice to be the team that spoils it for Texas.
  22. well, he could start Thursday against Texas (a day early) and if the Halos have a decent lead after 5 pull him and then make him available out of the pen over the weekend series to get a vulture win........maybe pitching him in the 5th inning or an inning or two if the Halos have a decent lead....... perhaps not worth it.......but with a crummy season like the Halos have had -- a 20 game winner would be nice.......besides, management could point to CJ and say "here's a signing that worked'
  23. saw the Yankees- Giants game. Mariano's last game at Yankee Stadium. Metallica there (the band members from SF Bay Area are all Giants fans, BTW) were there to peform 'Enter the Sandman' in person before the game. Mariano came on in the 8th inning (Yankees down 2-1) and pitched well. Yankees had a shot to win it for Rivera in the bottom of the 8th but two NY runners got tossed out at the plate, including an assist from left field for the third out of the inning. Rivera got out of the 9th with some runners on (a Yankee E at SS contributing to that) but no runs. Yankees couldn't mount a come back in the 9th which could have been a memorable walk off and a pitching win in Rivera's last game at Yankee Stadium. Instead, Yankees lose critical game and fall 4 games back in W/C chase, Texas loses and Cleveland looking like they're in command for 2nd W/C spot entering the final week of the season.
