  1. not surprised by this -- but I probably would have tendered Williams, made a decent (but lower) offer.......... and then, there's always the chance that some rotation starved team would pick him up and we'd get a draft pick. In almost counter-intuitive sense, the Angels did Williams a favor and rewarded his loyalty by non-tendering him -- by doing this, the chances of Williams being picked up as a F/A by another team increase considerably as they won't have to forfeit a draft pick........and some team with rotation (fourth/fifth, even sixth) spot needs will sign Williams now.
  2. I like Aoki -- good pick up for Royals. Will Smith a decent LHP for the pen. Seems like Royals got the better end........but Smith could be a starter or a set up guy. Like him better as a set up guy. if he's used solely as a situational lefty -- well, then the Brewers gave up too much.
  3. when the guy wasn't doing illegal stuff, he was pretty effective on the mound. may be worth a flyer -- he's only worth $ 3 million because a la Hamilton, you have to hire about three or four 24/7 guys to watch over him all the time.
  4. KINGS WIN IT !! Hey, nice win for Jones in his first NHL start...........!!! I was concerned going into the shoot out --- Hiller vs. Jones at Anaheim -- advantage THEM -- but Jones keeps his cool through a what? 8/9 round shoot out. None for them..........one game winner for us.
  5. yeah stadium set up could be better. best seats are down the lines. the usual 'good' seats for baseball are lousy for the hockey set up. I agree with prior posts that they probably could have arranged the set up better to have more decent seats. If you get a seat up behind home plate..........geez........you might as well watch the broadcast of the game on your hand held device...... and, yes -- ticket prices are out of sight. OK - here's the shoot out........we've got Jones, they've got Hiller -- I don't like this.
  6. Morneau will hit 45 to 50 HRs in 2014 if he stays healthy.
  7. that's OK -- but what it means, is that unless we win the bidding war for Tanaka, we won't be getting a front line starter........ more of a fourth/ fifth guy...........unless we deal Kendrick.
  8. good signing by Yanks.......I'm more impressed with this signing than the long term, big dollars they did today. Johnson pretty decent. Good bench depth guy. Can play all around infield. And can play 2B well enough in case Cano doesn't come crawling back to NY after his demands fall on deaf ears.
  9. Morneau to Colorado?? Well, I guess his power numbers will be up next year.....
  10. Ducks' uni's for the Stadium Series game makes 'em look like Caltrans workers........ Kings uni's look a lot better........
  11. 2-2, 10 minutes left in third.........Ducks about to go on the power play. am sure you saw Scrivens' comments about the Ducks' uni's for the Dodger Stadium game.........LOL!!
  12. Brandon League had some terrible outings last year.,,,, Brian Wilson likely will be on the DL before June. Maybe the Dogs could take a flyer on Ryan Madsen -- that worked well for us last year.
  13. I'm sure he'll get a standing O when he goes back to Boston......... LOL!!
  14. Well, with some of the trades and signings the Angels have made in recent years -- particularly at this sort of point in time, when other teams have made moves and the Angels seem 'desperate' to 'DO SOMETHING' -- perhaps the best move is to sit still and not take on some ridiculous contract.
  15. Cano to the M's rumor?? LOL!! I'd love to see Cano sign with the M's (chances of that are probably less than nil). For were Cano to sign with the M's -- he would likely follow in the path of almost every high priced big F/A signing the M's have made over the last decade plus -- a complete career dive as a total bust in Seattle. Look at the players they've signed and how they've flopped. the only F/A (and this guy is really in a different category as a F/A) who really worked out for them was Ichiro and his F/A situation was a different situation when he came over from Japan. But if Cano winds up in Seattle he could follow guys like Beltre, Figgins, and others went to Seattle and just bombed. (Jeff Weaver got a big pay day up there for not much production).
  16. Fregosi2Knoop -- hey, I like that posting handle!!!!
  17. No. Not unless we started running some quick outs, sort of a two minute drill thing.......
  18. we hired this guy for our minor league system? Wow. I remember seeing this on the internet (You Tube) back when it happened. for you old timers, sort of reminds of those Dick Lane narrated broadcasts of Roller Derby from the Olympic Auditorium.........
  19. I bought a ten game premium package -- Plan C........Club Level. Will probably put about half of them on the re-sale site but will have decent seats for the 4 or so games I can make this year. IS any one else having trouble logging onto the Spring Training ticket site? I can't seem to log into the inter-active select your seat link and the other 'best seats available' link does not provide security code words when it asks to list them to get into the site to buy tickets. I know it's the first day (I couldn't log onto the pre-sale for Insiders the other day, either). Any one else having trouble with the site trying to buy Spring Training game tickets at Tempe Diablo? Also -- am sure folks notice that ST game tickets are now about the same price wise as regular season tickets......amazing. ST used to be a laid back, low cost venue -- no longer.
  20. I don't think he's Number Two starter material........more like a 4 or 5 based on his performance of the past several years. and, actually, I think his best use may be as a set up guy.
  21. he made a pretty good catch in the SC-Notre Dame game a few years back..........
  22. to respond to the comment above about Schoenweis -- the reason many Halos fans didn't care for him before and after he left is that we remember his comments that year when MLBPA was organizing a walk out........in what could have been the last MLB game played before the walk out, a night game in Anaheim, Schoenweis (as Halos player rep at the time) was asked about the walk out's impact on the fans and Schoenweis pretty much dissed Halos fans and baseball fans in general.........can't remember his exact comments now but remember the sneering condescending attitude he took in saying them........ a number of years later, in what was probably Schoenweis' last major league season, if not his last game, he came on in reiief to pitch against the Halos (at Anaheim) while a member of the Chicago White Sox......I'm not sure if he even recorded an out........gave up something like five earned runs in maybe one-third of an inning.....Angels were leading the game when he came in and it was blow out by the time he left.......he may have been designated for assignment by the ChiSox shortly after that........
