  1. Happy New Year to all. don't see much difference with us between last year and now 2014 - I could be wrong......but I think unless we get a rotation guy of some quality (not a last second FA 'this guy will do" deal), we're headed to another third place finish......... if that's the case, and it might be......don't despair........the least we can do is have fun so let's do that!!!
  2. Salmon at Spring Fan fest and the camaraderie of Angelswin.com folks at Spring Fan Fest. I also thought that Victor Rojas was great on the panel at Spring Fan Fest. DiPoto's talk was interesting -- the fissure between him and Scioscia was evident. all in all, good stuff. Happy New Year to all Angelswin, com folks. having said that, I think we're in for another long season, potentially........so if that's the case, let's at least have fun!!
  3. Martin Jones.......nice run. What to do with Scrivens now? what a turn around -- we've got Quick, Scrivens and now Martin Jones..........a wealth of riches in goal -- remember not that far back that the LA Kings really struggled in goal for a number of years........really we had those great Kelly Hrudey years and then sort of struggled for a number of years after that.........of course some might say it wasn't just in goal but the defense in general then that was weaker and now is stronger making our guys in goal look good (and that's true) but it's no doubt that Quick et. al. have performed well. and it's real nice not having to rush Quick back Quickly.
  4. well, if the Halos get Tanaka, that would be great but I don't see us out-bidding the Yankees or several other teams for him........ hey, is Balfour back on the market? -- maybe we can pick him up for some pen help -- after failing his last physical, his contract price should be considerably less.....
  5. after the Angels off season moves this year, FSN figures they might as well save some production cost money and just re-play the 2013 season's games.
  6. wow........Angelswin.com moving on up..............big time.
  7. wow.......didn't pass the physical to the O's satisfaction? what's this? they had second thoughts about the amount of the contract?? Balfour and his agent are not going to just take this -- this O's move costs Balfour millions -- now other teams won't touch him for anything less than an incentive (IP) based contract.
  8. Let's sign Vida Blue while we're at it........
  9. I don't like this........isn't there anyone else? gotta be. David Eckstein? Chuck Finley? Garrett Anderson?
  10. We got the best years out of Downs........he started out well for us and then sort of had a bad year -I think in 2012 - and sort of bounced back last year......... good luck to him with the ChiSox.
  11. Reynolds......a DH trying to play 1B and some 3B.........and, yes, MarK is spelled with a capital K.
  12. at a minimum, I would think they have to increase that 66 years to 99 year $1 per year lease to attract investors........the 'Iron Triangle' or whatever it's called these days -- development prospects there have not worked out well. and, yes, the deal does relieve the City of Anaheim of maintenance costs....... Arte can keep talking about moving out -- perhaps to downtown LA -- but the reality is, these two (City of Anaheim and the ANGELS) need each other. I really can't see any other practical OC site -- perhaps some downtown LA stuff -- but with redevelopment agencies now eliminated -- these kind of downtown re-development projects need to be privately financed..........another reason the COA wants to get rid of the maintenance cost of the ballpark and environs. Good luck to Arte.........Stadium needs some infrastructure work but, really, there's no better location........
  13. almost anything is better than the Oakland Coliseum...... Looks like Bud Selig will be able to retire without ever having to make a decision on the A's going to where they should go -- San Jose.
  14. well, it hurts my back just watching the bronc riders and bull riders -- I can't believe they went SO long without helmets........ a kick to head can really do some damages and these guys hit the ground hard........ tip of the hat to these competitors.........
  15. good stuff guys, I agree with stromngt's posted comments -- there's virtually no way to enforce this rule consistently. I think the rule should stand as is and if the ump thinks there's a deliberate effort to knock out the catcher on a play where's it's not a close play, then he can call the runner out and eject him. I think they do that now -- and while it's difficult to articulate in a rule, everyone knows when they see it........ otherwise, just barring home plate collisions sort of makes it a game other than baseball....... with these kind of rules being considered and put it place, it just reminds me why I've come to the conclusion that the only real sports and athletes left are hockey players and rodeo riders......I was at NFR live Monday and in Vegas better part of the week -- guys get bucked off and knocked around and they're good to go the next ride........one guy was carried off in a stretcher and was still 'probable' for the next day..........
  16. Atlanta probably a good fit for him. what sort of contract did he get? Assume he's got a 'rehab' short term contract to show he's still able to pitch a full season. Atlanta is a good place for him to post some decent numbers and get to another big pay day..........
  17. Skaggs in rotation.........Santiago in pen. Santiago may get some fill in starts. If Santiago is setting up and getting about 70 plus appearances out of the pen -- means things have gone well for the Halos. I think Skaggs is ready to assume a number four rotation spot.
  18. Here's one Angel player I will always root for regardless of what team he's playing for. I understand the trade, sort of agree with the motivation for it (need pitching !!) but I don't like losing this OC kid........ Hope he crushes the ball in AZ.
  19. Well, if guys like RIcky Nolasco is going for whatever he signed for -- $49 million? -- Gavin Floyd could cost $30 million or so....... geez........can't believe what some of these guys are getting. they're getting more from one contract than a guy like Bob Gibson, arguably one of the best pitchers the game has ever seen (as least his 1968 season), got his entire career....... amazing.......and the guys getting the big money are not the aces......they're the 4th and 5th rotation guys.......unbelievable.
  20. well, not the best -- but better than we've got and probably all we can afford.......one year deal.......incentive laden I hope starting with number of ABs
  21. Ellsbury, now Carlos Beltran -- Cano gone -- Yankees may have improved here offensively......but the Yankees big need from last year is PITCHING -- and the Yankees haven't done much there. Right ,looks like a lot of 11 to 9 games for the Yankees in 2014..........
  22. $10 Million for one year for a guy who has spent considerable DL time the past two years?? Maybe they can sign Ryan Madsen next.
