  1. line drive shot -- geez I love that....... Trout and also CJ Cron hit just hard line shots......... please Albert don't GIDP......
  2. that was a strike to Trout?? we also get that call the rest of the game, Blue
  3. make it three easy groundballs........time to start sending alerts to family and friends.
  4. well, now, particularly because of 'it' , I would put McDonald in at third........ otherwise........routine groundball toward third..........by Freese. Aybar backhands it but can't make the throw...........
  5. we'll see how A's do when they get to a tougher part of their schedule. but they've got the pitching now....... I still think Cespedes to the A's is sort of like Pagan is to the SF Giants......although, A's seem to have more offense than just relying on one or two guys. Real nice DP there......HK, Aybar really played that well.
  6. Rats -- leadoff walk........not good. two walks in last three hitters.......rats.
  7. A's are in a refuse to lose mode. I still don't like that Cespedes trade from the A's perspective though. I mean, they get Lester for two months and cut payroll next year......... but I wouldn't have given up Cespedes.........BoSox will have both Cespedes and Lester next year.
  8. that Freese groundball is typical.......only thing that saved us from another Freese GIDP is that he came up with two outs........ if I'm in the dugout calling the shots, I would be quite tempted to keep Freese in the dug out and send McDonald out to third now in a 2-0 game where Richards looks like he's on his game. a Freese E or throw could turn the tide........ If I need to PH for McDonald latter because he's up in a non-bunt situation, I'd figure out what to do then.
  9. Freese up............two out. well, it is two out.......I'd be tempted to PR for him IF he gets on. great opportunity here to get him off the field......but Sosh probably wants one more AB out of him, at least.
  10. Man you guys are rough on our Halos.......that's ok. I wasn't ever happy about the Hamilton signing, but oh well. Aybar -- plays some really good D at SS even when he's not hitting -- and he's just gone hitless here, what? this series? he will get his share of base hits. Aybar is a good ballplayer.
  11. OK folks.....it's 2 zip Halos lead. RIchards pitching well. Wanna start wondering if the game stays this close will Sosh PLEASE make sure Freese is off the field (at 3B) by the top of the 7th?? McDonald for Freese at 3B, please.
  12. I think Weaver's pretty good -- he'll bounce back........has had some rough starts this year and then some injury issues. If the Halos are in that ONE game playoff (of course, depending on if they needed to play right to the last day to get there -- they shouldn't be -- but if they drop some more games here, they might be). But if they are in a position where they know they are either the AL West winner or Number One wild card the last week -- and then the A's clinch with about 3 or 4 games left (A's don't seem like they are going to lose consecutive games any time soon here or go on a 4 game losing streak like the Halos right now).....it will be interesting to see: who do you set up to pitch that ONE GAME WILD CARD game? Jered Weaver or Garrett Richards? I think a lot of folks here right now say Garrett RIchards..........Me? Yeah, old school, go with the veteran.......I'd probably go with Weaver.
  13. c'mon guys, nice stop by Naps there......give him his due. I don't like it when Naps hits HRs against us and makes good plays like that -- but I refuse to be a Naps hater. Naps was unhappy with his playing time here (and what MLB worth his salt wouldn't want more playing time) and Scioscia thought Naps wasn't really a very good catcher (and maybe Sosh was right about that)......but the Halos moved Naps (in a terrible three way deal with foreseeable consequences IMO,......Naps ending up in Texas was a great fit for him and them)......... But Naps didn't want to leave here (except he wanted to be a full time guy, not a platoon guy), Nap didn't leave the Halos, they traded him. He does like to beat Sosh's team and it shows..........but, hey, he's entitled to that IMO. No ill will towards Naps from here at all..
  14. Trout is fine.......he will work his way out of this -- but from the outset, he really K's a lot and needs to work on that....... I guess the trade off is, IF you want power numbers, K's are going to be up. If you want average and don't need the HRs, then, perhaps, fewer K's. but, hey, we're just coming off a four game series with the Dodgers and I heard Vin Scully pronounce: "Mike Trout, WITHOUT A DOUBT, is the best ballplayer in MLB today" If Vinny said it, it's gotta be true........
  15. WHEW!!! Had to go through the entire thread to make sure I did not make some asinine prediction/ comment on this proposed deal. OK -- MODERATORS -- SOME HELP HERE PLEASE!! Please back date the following post and comment to November, 2013: "I'd make this trade in a heat-beat. While I like Trumbo a lot, and he's a local guy and all, fact of the matter is we have too many 1B/ OF types on the roster now and REALLY need a quality starter. Trumbo is injury prone and may spend part of the 2014 season on the DL , while, Corey Kluber, pretty much a fifth starter type up to this season, is REALLY SET TO HAVE a BREAK OUT type season in 2104 so I say GET HIM NOW and beef up our relatively weak rotation." Best case scenario, every one stays healthy and guys like KLUBER and Garrett Richards have break out type numbers."
  16. "Napoli hitting a HR" Naps looked pretty thrilled at the post game on field celebration. Don't think he invited his good Halos buddy, Scioscia, to the party.
  17. Geez, he's like a comet........came from nowhere two years ago, was brilliant for a short spell and now has disappeared back into nowhere. Some team should take a chance with him........but not us. DiPoto did well on the Freiri trades -- getting him for next to nothing and then when Frieri was out of gas and worth next to nothing, got a serviceable pen depth guy, Grilli, for him. Hope Frieri is able to catch on somewhere to help revive his career a bit. He did pitch well for us for about a year and a half..........we got the best out of him and used up what he had. he could be a pen depth guy for some AL team at this point.......I don't see him doing well in the NL. When he left San Diego (when we got him) he was just coming about his fifth ineffective appearance in a row and San Diego was about to DFA him,
  18. a lot of K's....... he truly is the NEXT Mickey Mantle........
  19. having posted the above -- lest we forget......another guy having a great break out season is Garrett Richards. his numbers are almost as impressive as Kluber's and folks really did not expect this from Richards this season. He's really pitched well -- and, YES, has had a glitch start here and there --but overall, a break out season. Richards has 152 K's and leads the team and that has to place him among the top ten in the AL in that category.
  20. break out season for the guy. he's lights out and has been for quite a while. I have him on one of my fantasy baseball teams so I've been tracking his starts...... he's had really only one or two bad starts all season.........his recent starts over the past almost two months have all been quality plus starts -- even the losses, he strikes out about 8 per game.
  21. I thought both of DiPoto's Frieri trades were gems...... we got him for virtually nothing, expected little and he came up big for about a season and a half. he went to seed this year, big time -- and we moved him for a decent pre set up guy who still has something left and has helped the pen depth.
