  1. If Hunter plays in 2015 and all indications from this year would indicate that he does...... well he could finish with the following stats: 2,400 hits 350 HR 200-plus SB Now Biggio had better mix of numbers like this: 3,000 hits, 350 HR and 400 SB and didn't make it in first ballot (Yes, he had the magic 3,000) but Biggio will get in. Soon. But Torii may be closer numbers wise than you think and could make a decent showing in the balloting......he probably does not get in.
  2. lot of guys in HOF who were not MVPs..... a string of steady stat years leads to the HOF numbers --especially for pitchers. some of the 300 win guys -- did they all win Cy Young awards?
  3. why do these guys clear waivers? 1.) look at their contracts. 2.) if someone claims them, they can be pulled back from waivers. 3.) once they clear waivers, Rangers are in the driver's seat and can make ridiculous one-sided demands to clear out some team's farm system. If the other team says NO -- no harm, no foul.
  4. why do you think these guys cleared waivers??? Look at their contracts.
  5. the HOF 'magic' numbers are going to have to be adjusted in future years. Players are not playing as long and the career total leaders of the current era in each category (hitting/ pitching) will be less than or right at the 'magic' numbers. If you take Torii's 2,300 hits and match it up with all the players that entered the league the year he did, he's probably in the top ten. so who's a HOF'er number wise will need to be adjusted. Hunter may well be one of the era's better OF'ers as an all around player.
  6. we were in first all alone on Saturday night by two percentage points....... hey, first place is first place........two percentage points, no games ahead or half game up.......... LIGHT UP THAT HALO!!
  7. actually Piazza hit 177 HRs as a Dodger (419 total -- he had 220 with the Mets)...... looking at the stats and time played with the Dogs -- I'd change my vote to Scioscia - he played more years for LA and anyone who watched him play -- geez, he was a good catcher and perhaps one of the best ever at blocking the plate.........
  8. For those of you following the All Time Dodgers and Angels team picks and then the simulated series between the two All Time teams. Mike Scioscia was voted by the participating fans as the All Time Dodgers catcher over John Roseboro and Mike Piazza. I selected Piazza simply because he hit something like 300 HRs as a Dodger catcher........Scioscia was second on my selections. For what its worth, Halos won the simulated series 4 games to 3 with Nolan Ryan coming up big in pitching duels with Sandy Koufax.
  9. Love Trout -- but OUCH -- strike three with guys on second and third -- Note that they chose to pitch to him........I guess I would to at this point..........
  10. only three more years -- well, that's better than seven but is two to three years too many IMO. anyone worried about Hamilton? the thread title asks.......answer -- YES. That his name will show up in the Angels line-up. Meanwhile -- nice to have Calhoun back and batting lead off.........
  11. Mo Vaughn had 36 HR and 33 HR seasons for the Halos the two years he played for Anaheim -- 69 total HRs -- but his first year with the Halos he played 70 games at DH and not quite as many the next season..........so of his 69 HRs, probably about 50 or so were when he was playing 1B. Halos have had sort of a revolving door at 1B -- Pujols there now but he sort of DHs every fourth game or so,,,,,,, How many Halos 1Bs have been there for any length of time? Jim Spencer, Rod Carew, Wally Joyner perhaps Erstad but he spent much more time in CF. (JT Snow wasn't here that long -- but his gold glove left an impression). GEEZ, other than those guys, I kind of draw a blank thinking of other Halos' 1B guys over the years, Ted Kluszewski (spelled wrong) in '61, Don Mincher shortly after that......having trouble naming more off the top of my head........(Napoli doesn't really count, oh yeah, Mo Vaughn -- but we try to forget him).
  12. JT Snow is second with 65?? Mo Vaughn must have something close to that -- he hit 37 or so that one year and something like 22 the next. He's gotta be right there about 60 or so.
  13. well, I haven't checked this stat but something tells me if you look at Boesch's numbers at Fenway when he played for Detroit - you may find a reason why he's in the line up tonight.
  14. the A's traded their spark plug. of the three new rotation guys, two are pitching well while I don't think Hammel has won a game for the A's yet and his starts have been anything but quality start. Cespedes was the offensive spark for the A's ---- they miss his presence in the line up and in the outfield.........
  15. how's the Cespedes trade looking now??? I think the A's traded their spark away and they have not been the same team since. of the three new guys in the rotation , two have pitched well -- I don't think Hammel has won a game yet and didn't he get hammered today or was that yesterday's game?
  16. we needed to go 4-1 in these Phillies/ Texas games -- and so far we've gone 4-0. let's make it 5-0 heading into Fenway and then Oakland. LIGHT UP THAT HALO EXTRA BRIGHT TONIGHT!!!
  17. HOWIE !! LIGHT UP THAT HALO!!! MOVING DAY -- technically we're in first place -- higher percentage and fewer losses than A's.
  18. win, lose or draw this game and now it's two out. gotta give DiPoto kudos because it is Street out there right now and Frieri........
  19. let's compare DiSar's stats to Roman Gabriel's............
  20. AngelsAndRamsFan -- well, DiSar's number were not stellar but the team as a whole certainly played better when he was in the line up. as third base coach this year -- well, we've seen a lot of potential runs thrown out at third this year........ aggressiveness is one thing -- having rallies snuffed out with an out at third is another -- it has cost us runs and wins.
  21. some of recent plate appearances have looked just awful. it doesn't seem like he's even giving it much effort. his power numbers are non-existent. that's okay, we only have , what?, SEVEN years or whatever it is , left on his contract........this is going well.
  22. Fire DiSar?? NO WAY........ I thought he was great as a player - when he was in the line up Halos seemed to win. look at '95 when he got hurt -- Halos lost a 10 game lead over Seattle fast. as third base coach -- yeah, even I have to admit we've had a lot of guys thrown out at third this year........
