  1. OK. But when Colon is pitching like LeBlanc and we're paying him $11 million plus..........well....... Remember, this is the Colon who we refused to re-sign (how long has it been now? 6 years ago?) because his best years (including his Halos Cy Young year) were behind him and very few people , I mean few to none, complained THEN about not re-signing him and thought it was the right move.......Colon's won close to 75 MLB games since then but I still think we made the right decision back then.......so now we're going to sign him at age 41/42?? I say pass........ how's Randy Wolf doing at AAA?
  2. Oakland at Houston this week as the series before they come here. The A's won tonight and look to sweep that series..........
  3. perhaps they could give Mathis the Mike Napoli award........
  4. On the Angels ticket exchange, they won't let you go below face value (unlike stub hub). if they did, I'd cut the price on the two club level tickets I have for sale to rock bottom price (they won't let you post ZERO) and alert angelswin, com folks who would want to go Wednesday night. tomorrow is the last day they're for sale on the ticket exchange -- I think the way it works they've dropped to face value now and won't even sell at that price.
  5. What? Colon is signed through 2015??? Didn't realize that -- I couldn't believe that....... no way should we pick him up. I thought he was just signed through the end of this year........ LeBlanc got hit fairly hard tonight - the pen didn't help. But our choices seem to be a performance like LeBlanc tonight by LeBlanc for close to the MLB minimum OR a performance like LeBlanc tonight by Colon for $11 million-plus (as in close to $915,000 for Sept 2014 only and then $11 million for 2015)
  6. Last night it was Gene Autry's 'Back in the Saddle, Again" with the win over the A's. tonight, it's "Goodnight, Irene" after that Stanton HR.
  7. who are you going to pitch for Oakland vs. Halos in a tie-breaker game?? Please say Kazmir.......
  8. great time to have my tickets on the Halos ticket exchange.
  9. now it's irrevocable waivers -- so for some team to claim him is really just as a block -- otherwise you wait and then sign him and take on one month and one day of his contract (would have to have him on the roster before Sept. 1 for him to be playoff eligible). if LeBlanc's start doesn't go well for us today, Colon could be back in Anaheim -- that equates to what? Something about $915,000 for maybe 5 , 6 max, starts in September. Nice work if you can get it and apparently, Colon at 41/42 can. I'm hoping LeBlanc has a quality start tonight and the pen picks him up in the 7th to shut down Miami the rest of the way.
  10. I like this guy -- think it's a better pick up off waiver wire than Beckham...... can't beat Billy Beane on this stuff -- of course, A's probably had priority (over Halos) on waiver wire priority order when they got this guy. Halos having just picked up Beckham probably wouldn't claim Escobar anyway -- but wouldn't put it past Beane to wait until the Halos claimed Beckham, have the A's pass on him and then pick up the better pick, Escobar, next. watch Escobar execute a perfect sac bunt and/or steal a critical base against us in next weekend's series and then top it off by making a stellar D play at 2B/SS as a late inning defensive replacement. Meanwhile, Beckham may go 0-3 and make an E.
  11. I thought Grant Green played pretty well for us and was very versatile. not sure why we got Beckham (to hit lefties is why)....... if Green isn't going to part of this club, Halos need to deal him (perhaps for some rental pitching help) so he can play the rest of this year and then catch on with that team for next year. I felt Green was a pretty good depth guy for us -- could play INF and OF, could run pretty well and be called upon to sac bunt if situation called for it. not great D in the INF -- but probably on par or better than Freese at 3B.....made a decent play in LF for us in one game this year for us. Oh well.
  12. LIGHT UP THE HALO........ Grilli has done what we've asked of him........and Frieri was truly DONE when we dealt him and now he's been DFA'd and accepted a AAA assignment. LIGHT UP THE HALO -- Back in first place. Cue up BACK IN THE SADDLE AGAIN........
  13. Tiger Woods isn't a bad comparison here. Woods could retire and quit playing golf completely right now and still be one of the top two or three pro golfers of all time. I sort of get tired of folks carping at Woods. Despite what ever other issues he may have, his name still lights up the TV golf ratings....... Trout not quite there yet but Trout has career numbers right now that are pretty impressive for his time in the league. If he were to leave the game today, his numbers right now give him a better MLB career than a lot of players......Trout's still young -- if he 'slumps' from here on out ( and he won't) and puts up semi-average numbers (20 to 25 HRs a year, 80 RBI's and bats .275) and plays for another 12 years -- well he winds up with pretty close to HOF numbers putting up mere mortal numbers from here on out. I think Trout keeps getting better numbers wise over the length of his Halos contract at least.
  14. little BP time for Trout there -- 'working on things' -- like the high strike. Baylor probably thinks he shouldn't have swung a the pitch. its the time of the game with the score as it is -- to work on this stuff -- and, YES -- if Trout can hit that high fastball consistently from here on out --- AL Pitchers -- watch out!!!
  15. little BP for Trout right there -- outta here.
  16. Weav needs some low pitch innings........ if he's not coming out early --- might as well let him get a complete game.
  17. DiSar -- remember we lost three games?? Right -- if we maintain the lead here we are 7-3 on the 10 day trip to Texas, Boston (sweep) and Oakland. I'd take a 7-3 record on a trip like that,,,,,,,,,,,
  18. yeah, pen does need a rest......should cool off in the later innings making not that tough out there -- if Weav can keep his pitch count down -- yeah, let him keep going. normally with a starter in August, you'd pull your starter early........how about this guys? pull him after 5 and perhaps he can come back on short rest??? remember, we sort of short in the rotation dept.
  19. yeah we lost 2 of 3 in Oakland -- that's ok. remember we're still 7-3 on the road trip. losing 2 of 3 in Oakland ok if we win 3 of 4 next weekend at home.
  20. well, Kruk making some sense now -- finally. talking about KC in lead off role. Halos have missed having a lead off guy with lead off type skill. KC has been it since he's assumed that role. makes a huge difference.
  21. ok guys -- 8 zip.......rout sort of on. do you pull Weaver at the end of five?
  22. TOUCHDOWN HALOS -- extra point GOOD -- 7 zip score at Raiders' Park.
  23. and an awful pitch to hit with 3-0 count but now he plops a single into Left/Center -- run scores....... 6 zip -- this is what we needed. Slaughter rule in effect for Sunday 5 PM games at Oakland?
