  1. 'they have restaurants in Bakesfield?" hey, Luigi's, Woolgrowers and few other places beat other places anywhere all to heck. you bet they have restaurants in Bakersfield. they have some pretty good, just down to earth folks too.
  2. don't think so unless we move Freese.....I think he has at least one more year on his deal.
  3. fan_since79 -- '64 Phillies -- another Gene Mauch story. as for the '64 Phillies -- just fyi -- was recently over in Bakersfield and stopped in a the famous Luigi's for lunch. they have some great sports photos on the wall of the restaurant and a few very prominent photos of Bakersfield High product, Johnny Callison....... that goes back a ways.........you won't be disappointed with the food and cold refreshments at Luigi's.
  4. yeah - I am sort of leery of 'magic number' threads this soon (although, the info is interesting). I keep thinking of Gene Mauch and Marcel Lachemann.
  5. it's too bad for us we are losing this Shuck......Aw Shucks played well for us in the role he was asked to do. I think he's a valuable 4th/ 5th OF'er -- with expanded roster, not sure why we needed to make this move, clearly space could have been cleared some other way. Cleveland is getting a good depth guy who can come off the bench and start for an injured OF'er -- can DH, can PH and PR and even has some defensive skills (although, kind of like the Gary Matthews Jr. catch -- when he was with Texas -- a few years back-- the great catch Shuck made does not equate to him being a top quality D guy in the OF -- he's not terrible but the highlight reel is just that -- ONE CATCH -- GMJ turned his highlight reel into a $50 million over-priced contract -- never thought GMJ was that great at D in the OF). but good for Cleveland -- they're still in the hunt for the AL Central and certainly the wild card spot(s) so a good pick up for them. I like their club-- and now we have to play them Monday -- this must be a make up game from a prior rain out.........
  6. Texas needs to really take a step back and do some re-organization/ re-building. Nolan Ryan had the team contending not that long ago, then he left the ownership group/ front office and things seemed to fall apart. This franchise has too much potential (decent market except for it's football season down there about 12 and a half months of the year LOL!). to be struggling like they have this year. If Washington leaving is the start of a purge/ re-building, this franchise may be back sooner than later.
  7. yeah, I think Washington left before he got the axe.
  8. God of Runs -- ouch -- that's cruel......hey, but look at tonight.........who came on to get that needed sac bunt in the top of the 9th?
  9. and Mauch Won, dare I say it, but he might even be a better third base coach than that DiSarcina guy that's been there this year......... geez, I'm a huge DiSar fan as all here know -- but, GEEZ, I think we've had more guys thrown out at the plate than any other team (and during a year when the new 'no block the plate' rule really gives an advantage to the base -runner iMO). We've also had guys tossed out a third..........our base-running has not been stellar this season........... DiSar for the BoSox and Angels has served in almost every organizational role from roving infield instructor, to play by play / color commentator (Pawtucket), to manager a the minor league (AAA Pawtucket and at the AA level as well), minor league coach, farm system player development director (for both BoSox and Angels, I think), etc........his third base coaching stint this year has not been all that impressive..........oh well.
  10. they do head to head match ups with all time players -- some are laughable. for the Dodgers Davey Lopes, a very popular Dodger is up against JACKIE ROBINSON......it's amazing that Lopes is getting the 4 percent he's getting. Sandy Koufax for the Dogs is getting 100% I think Howie Kendrick is up against someone like Nolan Ryan...........geez.
  11. loved the fact that Sosh pinch ran Campana for him tonight in the ninth.......makes a lot of sense. expanded roster flexibility really allows a manager to manage!!
  12. all said and done and its..........A FIVE GAME LEAD IN THE AL WEST WITH THE FIRST WEEK OF SEPT. ALMOST IN THE BOOKS.......... nice debut by Campana kid.
  13. two down.....wicked strike three pitch there --- dangerous because if the hitter takes it, the ball drops and is ball four.
  14. and he swung and missed on another ball four there.......
  15. oh well, he just swung at ball four and fouled it off......
  16. 3-1 -- geez that 'no swing' call was really bad........bat broke the plane...........terrible call.
  17. this guy has had a hot bat the last month or so........
  18. I'd take a 4-6-3 here even if the runner moves over to third.
  19. tough to over-turn that call from the camera shot......... if initial call was OUT it would have been difficult to over-turn that call as well.
  20. OUCH. Two up, two on, two base hits.......one pick off not called.......
  21. He's been very good for the Halos in his defined role. This may well be his final season. A good major league career who stayed in the bigs so long primarily because of his glove and his baseball instincts. I think he's a great organizational guy and would like to see him kept within the Halos organization as, perhaps, a roving infield instructor throughout our minor league system......teaching some fundamentals -- something that is really needed.
  22. Edmonds in KC number 1 , I'd say Erstad in NY 2nd, any of Torri's over the fence grabs -- he had several, Trout's catch in Baltimore. Bourjos made same great catches when he was here. Don't forget Gary Pettis and back in the day, Devon White (as a rookie).
