  1. I think Beckham gets better offers and signs elsewhere -- Halos simply did not want to utilize $5 million plus for that roster spot/ role. I would imagine Le Blanc will be pursued by the Halos (and perhaps other clubs).....he can help some one.......he can help the Halos thin rotation in the first half of the season. Perhaps even a 4-A guy - but he'll likely get better MLB offers. Herrera, it's been reported, has been signed to a minor league deal and invited to ST - he can earn a back end of the pen spot, perhaps. Or AAA depth. I'd be fine with Grant Green assuming the 3B/ MIF bench depth role that Beckham helped fill. Green can also play OF if necessary.
  2. I don't think Beckham is in the mix for the Halos -- IMO he was pretty much a short term rental and that's it. he'll hook on with some other team -- is a pretty good 3B/ MIF depth guy with some power.........and can be inserted to start every day when some one goes on the DL.
  3. of those listed -- perhaps LeBlanc........but then he may have better offers from others........ but with the Halos rotation issues right now -- they must be locked in on a rotation guy right now for a F/A or trade to just let LeBlanc go -- perhaps they feel they can sign him for less.
  4. Andrew Miller was part of the deal that sent Miguel Cabrera to the Tigers a few years back and about three trades ago for Miller..... it was Miller and about four other players.........for Cabrera and Dontrelle........
  5. Yeah -- Twins were terrible last season -- not expected to be much better in 2015 --- just like Griffey Jr. did for Seattle -- Torii can do for Minnesota......put some tails in the seats. and while folks remember Griffey Jr.'s mid-season exit from Seattle -- he did have one decent return season with them -- it was stretching into a second year that caught up with him.....but to Griffey's credit -- he didn't hang around to the bitter end of the season -- he pretty much up and left when he realized it wasn't working for him.......
  6. yeah the TJ's (two of 'em not one) probably cool the jets a bit. still -- guy is worth a flyer --- he'll generate some interest......
  7. HUH? Don't understand this. did the guy fail a physical or something -- he'll get plenty of attention -- probably traded by Braves this week.
  8. Pleased to see this -- hope he has a good year for them and then hangs 'em up going out with a stellar season. He did not get a chance to wear a home uniform in the new ballpark there and now he does........ I'll be rooting for him to do well........
  9. Victor Rojas -- what a good cookie!! Speaking of which -- how is Cookie Rojas? (MIF -- Philadelphia Phillies and Kansas City). Happy Holiday season to all -- 2014 best record in baseball -- 2015 more of the same -- hope we can have more of a playoff run. Victor -- keep callin' 'em as you see 'em --
  10. "Boone is part owner" -- then it's partly his money -- no wonder he's cautious and cheap.
  11. this trade means Donaldson, really one of the A's sole source of a power bat -- gets replaced in the power bat position by newly signed Billy Butler -- who's power has declined and who is still hitting in a tough ballpark to drive the ball out of -- Kauffman Stadium is a pitcher's park -- and the Oakland Coliseum -- well it's a football stadium first -- is a pitcher's park. Donaldson was under club control for at least another season -- seems if Beane is trying to get the maximum for him now......... unless one understands the extremely low budget constraints situation Beane finds himself having to constantly work under, this deal makes no sense -- but a for a Beane deal to get young players under club control plus a SS who can play now -- pretty good Beane trade.........even if Donaldson continues his ALL Star performance at third and at the plate for Toronto.
  12. Beckham for $5 million or Rodriquez as a non-roster guy? Hmm. can we non-tender Beckham at this point ? I don't think I'd play the arbitration game with him unless we want to pay him $5 or $6 million to be a platoon / bench depth depth guy for 2015. but then -- hard to say this -- but $5 million for an MLB vet bench depth guy who can step in and start when needed, well $5 million for that is chicken feed for MLB these days.
  13. good pick up IF he can hit enough to make the roster. not a bad guy to have at AAA when rosters expand in September......hard to find a roster spot for him of the usual 25 man roster, though.
  14. what's Beckham's contract status ? Is he signed through 2015? I kind of doubt that. to me, Beckham was a classic case of a deadline deal rental player -- he'll be moving on to somewhere else in 2015. And I'm sure he can provide some team with bench depth.
  15. I'd imagine the Angels would at least provide him an invite to ST as a non-roster player. perhaps Maddon's Cubs will do the same.
  16. David Saltzer -- well said. Well worth remembering. Well worth giving thanks for. Not just today but every day. Thanks and thanks all.
  17. Frieri has a pretty good upside -- worth the gamble as a Spring Training Invitee and, perhaps, a minor league contract. He pitched well for us for a period of about a year and a half when not much was expected. He's worth a flyer -- hope he regains his form enough to stay in The Show.
  18. WOW -- didn't keep real close track of his stats but thought he was playing regularly for Tampa Bay at one point and was doing better than average. Is this a " Maddon isn't in charge anymore" move?
  19. good move by Roth -- Angels organization sort of has lost faith in him (and have reasons to feel that way) and so he takes F/A. As a lefty he'll be picked up by someone and may get a new start with another organization to rejuvenate his career and stick around in MLB.
  20. Kings lead second period at Nashville -- but not exactly controlling the game.. Nashville home uni's look a bit like LA Kings retro jerseys from afar. When I first turned the game on, I thought - GEEZ -- it's retro jersey night.........
  21. I agree with wophil but would say Smoltz this time instead of Piazza. Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez, Craig Biggio (should have gotten in as a first ballot guy last year) and Smoltz. I think Sheffield deserves to get in but it's going to take a few years........I still think he wasted a lot of his potential being angry at one organization after another and burning bridges. It's interesting to watch him as an ESPN analyst.........Sheffield certainly got some raw deals by teams during his MLB career (he was part of the two worst salary dumps in MLB history -- San Diego Padres after the team was sold (and after Sheffield had an MVP type season) and Florida Marlins (after they won a title).......but he wasted some of his most productive years being angry and wasting his talent -- and he was a very good ballplayer -- could have been one of the best ever IMO -- but his attitude got in the way. He's a guy who could have hit 650 HRs and stolen 400 bases.
  22. that prior post should read -- Beckham is an upgrade DEFENSIVELY over Freese at 3B.........
  23. Beckham is an upgrade over Freese at 3B but that's not saying much. Beckham really isn't serious trade bait for us IMO. He was a deadline deal MIF depth guy -- that's what he is. He is not an every day player. Maybe Posey can start taking ground balls at 3B........
  24. Panda may get along with Fenway just fine.........that's perhaps the only place he's worth 5 years @ $100 M. which means he's probably not worth that much. this is actually good for the SF Giants -- Sandoval was a fan favorite there but the SF Giants got the best years and production out of him and now the Giants can move on and use the payroll freed up to obtain a power bat -- which is what they need. Sandoval didn't hit that well the past two seasons for the SF Giants but his bat came alive at the end of the season and in the post-season. Panda will probably get off to a good start in Fenway and prompt SF Giants fans to wonder why they let him get away -- which means they may forget that what he does offensively in Fenway he could not be doing at AT & T .
  25. As for Papi -- BoSox should pay him for past service and his future over the next two years -- Papi at Fenway ? - GEEZ -- I would never count him out.
