  1. Hey, Grant Green is actually pretty good.......not the best on D but not terrible either and Green has some pop in his bat. If he plays every day, I could see Green hitting 15-20 HRs this year. Rutledge is a decent MIF depth guy and can also play 3B -- he has some speed which means he can PR for Freese and play 3B in the late innings. Giavotella will be a 4-A at SLC and could really help us in September is his speed has maintained what it used to be. Featherston ? not sure where he fits in.......perhaps a full season at SLC.
  2. well, last year the Halos invited a glut of MIF non-roster guys to camp -- including John McDonald (a guy I thought would NOT make the team) well, at the end of camp, McDonald was on the 25 man roster and played an important role in the clubhouse and provided some good late inning defense at MIF and 3B. so we'll see. of this group so far, I see Rutledge making the 25 man roster and Giavotella being the 26th or 27th guy as a 4-A player at SLC. Of course, this comes from the same guy who wondered why the Halos invited a 38-9 year old John McDonald to camp last year. Speaking of McDonald, I assume he's retired........sure would like to see him get a coaching spot in the Halos organization somewhere.
  3. Giavotella is joining one of the LA Kings scoring lines??? WOW. I wonder if he'll fan on the puck the way he whiffs on pitches.....
  4. well, all those guys are more line drive guys than power guys -- so they should do OK. just expect the HR numbers to fall off.
  5. my mistake -- Giaovtelli is 27 not 37. I thought so,. guys was up with Royals stealing bases and running wild on the base paths (having pinch run -- getting on base himself always a problem) not that long ago -- and then Dyson and the other OF speedster KC has sort of took his place on the roster.......which for Giovatella was always part time up and down from AAA anyway.
  6. ah, no big deal. Halos had a reason to move Howie Kendrick, arguably one year too soon than one year too late. Howie didn't leave us, we dealt him and he and his family get to stay in S. Cal. good deal all around. I will root for Howie Kendrick in Blue -- except when he plays the Halos.
  7. don't understand a lot of these pretty good hitters going to Petco -- a pitchers' park. the money is good I guess, because unless they are spray type line drive hitters, the power numbers won't match prior years' performance.
  8. San Diego Padres -- puts a lot of pressure on Bid Black to win now...........
  9. good ballplayer when healthy -- but would not invest that much in a guy who's been DL prone.........NO.
  10. Not a bad move -- I hear all the naysayers here -- but one thing about this guy, he's what? 37 now? its hard to think he's that old, just last year he was a 'prospect' it seems -- when he first came up this guy would run like the wind.......he's essentially a MIF version of Jarrod Dyson -- another KC speedster. this guy is OK MIF at D and is the type of guy you can pinch run (or PH in bunting situation) in the late innings of a close game and then have him play late inning D at 2B (more so that SS -- probably doesn't have the arm for SS). Problem with this guy has always been finding a roster spot -- he always seems to the 26th or 27th guy coming out of camp --hard to devote a roster spot to guy that hits .200 on a good day. So what's the harm of parking him at SLC as a 4-A player, let him hold down the fort there as insurance and as injuries arise or was we face an NL team, we can bring this guy up and he could make the difference in some close games....... if Freese gets on base in the 7th inning - who do you want on the basepaths? Freese or this guy?
  11. well, yeah, let's not get political but a military air base for the US in Cuba would have what we should have held out for..........oh well. I guess we'll have to settle for a couple of pitchers..........if they all throw like Arnoldis Chapman, well, that might be OK.
  12. not the Rangers -- the one place where Josh Hamilton might actually be somewhat productive at the plate (remember Vlad Guerrero? and that great first half of the season he had in Texas that one year - he made the All Star team and then pretty much saw a major fade the second half). The Padres? We would certainly have to pay much of Hamilton's contract to have him go there -- of all the places Hamilton could play - Petco Park has to be about the worst fit for him -- an NL pitcher's park which means no DH (and Hamilton, once pretty good in the field is more than questionable these days -- his best defensive position now is DH).....and then there's the park -- Hamilton -- if he played regularly to start the season might be batting close to .185 through May at Petco --- I think NL pitchers would go right at him......really his post-season ABs last year were among the worst I've ever seen from a MLB hitter who wasn't a pitcher.........awful.
  13. not a bad deal. We've gotten about all there is to get from Jepsen -- and his best was fairly average. but he's been with us for a while........ Matt Joyce is sort of a strange pick up -- we've got plenty of OF'ers and need pitching.......but, what the heck. Loss of Jepsen no major big deal - wish him well in new surroundings.
  14. don't think Skaggs will be ready until at least June 1. If then.
  15. nice article Dave. it will be a bit tough, but I will certainly root for Howie to do well in a Dodgers uni and in their line up. I always liked Kendrick, he's been a rock for the Halos over the years at a time when players don't stay with one team much -- an average of about three years these days I'd guess. But, at the same time, I understand why the Halos made the move even if we're (really) going to miss HK in our line up in 2015. the good news for HK and his family is that this move really doesn't change much for them -- just reports to work 30 minutes up the freeway. good luck to Howie -- I think Dodger Stadium -- a pitcher's park -- may take a bit of a toll on his offensive numbers, but he's solid on D and I think will be slotted into a line up order with hitters around him that will result in Howie probably seeing good pitches to hit.........all the best to him.
  16. how old is LeBlanc?--he can go over there -- make some money -- wonder what the full contract ends up being if he hits all the incentive targets? -- must be a lot more than what he was getting offered here -- but he can go over there, get a chance to pitch in a rotation every fourth/ fifth day and perhaps show some MLB teams what he can do and rejuvenate his MLB career.....others have done it.
  17. salary dump, pure and simple. Halos erase $9.2 million from payroll for Howie in his contract year, a contract the Halos probably couldn't/ wouldn't extend and then be unable to re-sign him. Kendrick will get a decent pay day for his next contract and as for all guys at his age and number of years in the league, would the new contract reflect payment for performances to date or for future performance??? the Halos figured, we can't keep Howie, we are not going to pay him a 'thank for your service' type over-payment contract for 2016 --so now is the time to get some pitching help which will be under club control for about five years.
  18. can't Grant Green play SS? or we will find someone else.
  19. he'll probably wind up in AAA this season.
  20. expect more news of this sort when he gets called out on strike three by Dale Scott........ Hey, all these folks have the right to express whatever views or lifestyles they want off the field. let's move on. I hope Torii does well for the Twins.
  21. ah, Michael Saunders, the OF'er.......ok. just assumed it was pitcher for pitcher deal.......... J.A. Happ - was he the guy who came up with or spent some time in the Phillies rotation?......was a pretty decent rotation guy at one point......has kinda bounced around a bit since then.
  22. I thought the BoSox were in the mix? No? Dogs could continue to spend..........wouldn't be surprised........I except to see Lester back in Boston, though.
  23. pretty good article by Garrett -- spot on for the most part. I agree -- Ogando is worth a flyer -- isn't he something like 6'7" ? Eric Young is a real possibility -- sort of like having the Chone Figgins of 2002 back. I like the idea of his speed and versatility while providing MIF depth. Not much more on that list of interest.
  24. Joe Saunders -- he had some real ugly starts for Seattle last year........ I recall watching one game (might have been against us -- probably was -- only reason I'd be watching the M's) where he just got rocked.......
