  1. Again, the more appropriate comparison is Howard. Not Jeter. for the 2007 season. Howard got the record of $0.9 million. In 2006 he had a shash line of .313/.425/.659/1.084 with a 5.0 WAR. In 2007, he hit .268/.392/.584/.976 with a 2.8 WAR. He then took the Phillies to arbitration and won $10 million vs $7 million. Here is where salaries never go down. Only up. In 2008, his slash line was .251/.339/.543/.882 and a 1.5 WAR. Even with that, in 2009, he avoided arbitration with the Phillies where the offers were $18 million vs $14 million, and signed a 3 year $54 million contract that bought out his 3 remaining arbitration years. He went on to sign an extention buying out 5 years of free agency in 2010 after having a slash line of .279/.360/.571/.931 with a 3.5 WAR in 2009. Now, he probably has the second worst contract in the MLB. Putting up a huge .718 OPS with a -1.2 WAR last season.
  2. http://howto.cnet.com/8301-11310_39-57472946-285/how-to-replace-a-broken-screen-on-your-iphone/ There are places that will also repair it. Apple store is probably the most reputable, but also at the same time the most expensive. I did a google search, and there seems to be a few places in So Cal that can replace it. But the price is much cheaper to do it yourself.
  3. Only 26k attendance. So not as much as say a Breeders Cup day. You should have gone Nate. They had a bunch of food trucks, with some of the bigger named trucks. Key to the foodtrucks is get there early. Less of a line on the popular trucks, then you can Truck hop the lesser one's later in the day. I think Derby day, they will have the foodtrucks out there again.
  4. $1 million would be a record for a player that has less than 2 years service time. See my previous post on the previous record holder, and what he got, and you will see what the harm would be. I don't think any team wants to go down that road.
  5. I saw a few episodes of it. It was pretty interesting. Not enough to make me want to get Cinemax. But if it was on during a free preview weekend, worth watching.
  6. And even another year might not help. Look at Ryan Howard. He is the gold standard when it comes to arbitration. 2007 1 year/$0.9M (record for player with less than 2 years of service) 2008 1 year/$10M (won in arbitration with Philadelphia 2/21/08 ($10M-$7M)(Super 2)) 2009-11 3 years/$54M (avoided arbitration, $18M-$14M) 2010 signed a 5 year/$125M extension. This is what the Angels are trying to avoid. And Landis I'm sure is trying to make it so that it's very difficult to avoid the comparisons. That's why he wanted Trout to be paid more for his second year.
  7. But the Oilers will get the Ducks second round pick this season.
  8. I wonder what Trouts agent would say, if the Angels said we will sing him to Harpers contract? BTW. Harpers deal is: 11:$0.5M, 12:$0.5M, 13:$0.75M, 14:$0.9M, 15:$1M With a signing bonus of $6.25 million. For a number one draft pick. Trout got a $1.125 million singing bonus as a #27 pick. I'm sure Landis will be thrilled to give up his first year of arbitration for $1 million. This is how the game is played folks. Read Mathis' agents views on arbitration. Teams will try to avoid paying a player X amount, knowing that the baseline will then be that X amount + some the following year. And continually going up the next 2 years of arbitration. Anyone ever hear of a contract going down in price during arbitration? Yes, it's possible. But the minimum a price can go down per the CBA is 80% of the previous year. Everyone should just look at Ryan Howards contract. Trout will get paid.
  9. As Mike Smith on Drosselmeyer passed Game on Dude in the Breeders Cup. I felt sorry for her, since I thought she rode Game on Dude perfectly in that race. Mike just had the better horse at the time.
  10. Game on Dude won handily. By a few lengths. It was very impressive. I personally didn't think he would do it. But maybe it's because I'm bitter that Baffert took Chantel off of him. Kind of Ironic that Mike Smith would lead Game on to his second Big Cap.
  11. That will be the key. Crosby is not the picture of health. Interesting fact. In 2005, the first draft pick came between the Ducks and Penguins. The Penguins had three balls, the Ducks two balls in the draft lottery. The Penguins won and drafted Crosby, much to the relief of the NHL and practically all east coast fans. The Ducks drafted Bobby Ryan. Not a bad pick considering who else was picked that year. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2005_NHL_Entry_Draft
  12. My dog is 15. She is pretty much blind now, and wants to be held all the time. I will put her on my lap, and she will snore herself to sleep. I know at her age, that the days are numbered. But when she scratches on the door to come upstairs, or just stands there afraid to go forward since she can't see in the dark, I will be there to pick her up and take her where she needs to be. As a dog owner, I feel your pain.
  13. A HorDogkin. Unfortunately, there was a horse near your place that you could use. /cry It was very sad to see on a very good race day.
  14. Thanks everyone. What an eventful day. Started it at San Manuel, doing degenerate gambling on the slots. Then it went to Santa Anita, just to make Nates day miserable, but to watch the ponies and eat food truck food and have the allergies nearly kill me. Guess Game on Dude isn't done. And it ended in Pasadena having sushi and sake and somehow ending up home (Thank you to DD's). And to top it off, posting from home to home, AW.com. Now that I'm drunk. Time to post replies to the forum.
  15. We got a point right? Actually don't know since i've been drunk all evening. So what better place to go to than here.
  16. Not to be a Selig apologist. But the union has a very very very big say in everything. There is a reason why there has been a relative labor peace for so long.
  17. my goodness. that game should not have been that close
  18. was a bit sloppy there in the second. hiller was nails. yeah the strike really made the schedule bad
  19. Hahahah. Teemu Selanne 669 goals. Luc Robitaille 668.
