Anyone else notice that Trumbo has been quoted quite a bit lately on articles, in the Times at least? This last article about the long haul, and the one after the closed door meeting, it seemed that Trumbo was the only player quoted. Granted, it's not going to happen overnight. But so far, I'm liking what I see from Trumbo, on and off the field.

While true, anyone that watches the game will know differently.

I think this is where you will find a correlation between the HR derby slump and player. GA was never a HR hitter. So he changed his swing for the HR Derby. You could tell some hitters are clearly a different hitter in the HR derby. Fielder comes to mind as a power hitter that changed his swing just for the HR derby. Trumbo on the other hand has a natural home run swing. When you watch him last year in the HR derby, it was the same swing as any old batting practice. He just punishes the ball regardless. It would be funny if he did his concentration stare at the bat before every at bat for the HRD though.

Nice read Greg. And I agree. I think in regards to the Blanton signing is it happened way too early in the offseason when other pitchers were available. Not that they would have done any better. And people are fixated on that one move instead of all the moves. Credit for a bad singing of Blanton, but no credit for Hanson, Vargas, or Burnett. And Burnett had a small injury risk, but nothing more than a usual ballplayer like Weaver removing bone chips from his elbow. He was rock solid up until this year, no way to have seen the injury bug coming.

Here is the arguement against the DH. Pitchers can't do what they want when they want, and not face retribution like in the AL. Eventually, you have to bat in the NL, and you will get payback.

So then why not do it on Friday or Saturday? Why on Fathers Day?

For a while it was really fun, and reminds me of what this team can be. It was fun to watch Bourjos snag the homer. It was fun to watch Trout hit a blast in front of his family. Fun watching Trumbo slide and make a catch, and go to the wall, wondering if he would pull a Bourjos only to realize he's a foot taller than Bourjos so doesn't need to jump. It was fun to have Trout go to the stands and get interfered with, by someone in a Trout Jersery. Then watching Trout egg him on. When Bourjos made the catch, it seemed to light a fuse under the team. They were out there playing ball, and not playing like they were under a microscope. Trading web gems with the Orioles. For the first time in a while, it looked like a team, and a team having fun with some emotion. This is one of those games, that although we lost, I felt good about. Something that usually only happens when we are winning our way to a division. And maybe they did find the joy of baseball again, and the team will start playing better.

If a team were to decide to tear it down and start over, then Trout is expendable. And he will bring the pieces in which you can be successful at a start over. Because if you rebuild now, which could take fully from 4-10 years considering what we have currently on the farm, no way does he stick around past his 4 years left.
