  1. So Scott, what you are saying is Dipoto is stupid enough to give up a draft pick for a one year player?
  2. It's still in the Japanese papers that Kuroda will sign with the Yanks or go back to Japan.
  3. Unfortunately I don't think trading will help the farm in the long run either. Drafting the right players, signing the right internationals, and not trading prospects on a consistent basis is the only thing that will help the farm in the long run.
  4. Hughes actually isn't as far out there as people might think. He had a bad 1.46 WHIP/5.19 ERA last season. He's a career 1.32 WHIP/4.54 ERA. but his home road splits were home 6.32 ERA/1.55 WHIP to a 3.88 eRA/1.36 WHIP. Last 3 years home 5.35 ERA/1.39 WHIP vs a road 4.34 ERA/1.35 WHIP. Safe to say, he doesn't like pitching in NY. Bad thing is, in the last 3 years, in the one game he started at Angels stadium. And he got rocked. So not sure if his home #'s would improve here or not. I personally think he's right around a plan R. But I think as people start signing, his name might start to pop up around the league.
  5. Kuroda has repeatedly said, he will either play for the Yankees, or retire/go back to Japan to finish up his career.
  6. And I'm telling you, we might be able to get Arroyo and Colon and Howell for the price of Garza and Howell. Add into it, Colon will be a one year deal, Arroyo probably a 3 year deal, where Garza may require a 5+ year deal. I'll take my chances with the shorter deals, and try and get a FA pitcher when true #1 types are on the market.
  7. Updated salaries with Smith. May need to adjust later. Estimated opening day is at $156.175 Estimated Competitive Balance Tax is at $176.21
  8. Added. 11/23/13 Signed Joe Smith to a 3 year deal.
  9. For the price. I think Arroyo and Colon might be had for the same price as Garza. Garza won't cost a draft pick, and is ranked in the tops of the FA starting pitching.
  10. I believe Colon and Arroyo won't cost a draft pick either.
  11. Last year, his down year. .889 OPS at Yankee Stadium, .929 OPS at Arlington, .690 OPS at Angels stadium. Jerry needs to channel his inner car dealer, and sell it.
  12. Thought it was an outstanding movie. And it kept pretty true to the book. For anyone that has read the book. Is it just me, or did the movie end a few chapters early? Not that I mind or anything, since I thought it ended at the perfect time. And sets up not for the finale to make sense at being a two parter now.
  13. Until I hear that we can spend more than the Competitive Balance Tax. We have $6-$14 million to spend. I really have no idea how we are going to fill our starters. But I have a real bad Joe feeling in how it's going to end up. One far out person that no one has mentioned. Trade Hamilton. He has 4/$98 remaining on his contract. Yanks or Texas might have use for an OF'er. Beltran seems to be the big guy on the FA market, but he's 36, so will depend on his length and amount he's looking for. If the Angels ate $38 million of it. That would put Hamilton at 4/$60, which might be enticing to some teams. More enticing than Crawford at 4/$82.5 million, kemp at 6/$128, and Eithier at 4+1/$71.5 million. That would free up $15 million to spend, and bring us up to $21-$29 million to spend. That would make a dent in what we can go after. Of course with McCann supposedly going to the Yanks, that may increase interest in Iannetta. Colon, the most I'd do is a 1+1, with the +1 dependent on games started. But I think anything $10 and under, Oakland would offer a similar deal, so unless the Angels grossly overpay, he will be back with them. Other starters, looks like the Angels seem to have interest in Arroyo. But even he looks like he'll get north of $10 a season. So the starter spot looks like it will be up in the air depending on how much we can spend. I don't think the Angels will take a player that would cost them a draft pick either. The other reliever spot, I'd look at Downs. He might be had for a 1/$2 or $3 or a 1+1, and being a lefty helps. But a Mujica or Howell wouldn't be bad either, just have to think they would get as much as Smith.
  14. Sign a 40 year old steroid user to a 2 year deal? And people complain about signing a 30 year old to a 4 year deal.
  15. Trumbo. Because it seems like everyone on AW.com wants him off the team.
  16. Ok, late to the party. Smith is a great signing. But $5 million a year for a reliever is on the top end. According to my numbers, at about $14 million before going over the competitive balance tax. Alden is at $6 million. We need to get creative to fill those 2 starting, and maybe one relief spot. Because right now, it looks like Blanton is prime for a spot in the starting rotation.
  17. Actually no. Even with Wells coming off the books, Hamilton gets an $8 million raise next season, and who knows what Trout will get in Arb 1. Already at $143 million in salary next season if you include the arbitration players. Although this should go down when Hansen, Gutierrez, and Nelson are released. But only by about $9 million.
  18. Etem with some thievery. Too bad it wasn't converted.
  19. 2 setup men are much cheaper than 1 closer. And Salas doesn't count as one of the setup men.
