  1. Haven't read anything yet. But it'll probably be minimal.
  2. Am I missing something here? But the Angels had Jason Hammel most favored? Jason Hammel that had a 4.97 ERA, 1.46 WHIP for the Orioles last season? Jason Hammel who only once in 8 years had a ERA lower than 4.33 and a WHIP lower than 1.39. Jason Hammel who has a career 4.80 ERA, 1.44 WHIP? Is our starting rotation that bad that this would improve it?
  3. Updated the spreadsheet with Freese' $5.05 million deal. Also updated Jepsens deal. That puts everyone under contract for 2014.
  4. 1/$5 is a good chance to take. Although the history of Doggie players haven't been that great for the Angels. Man, didn't realize he was that old.
  5. Michael Young had a great career. I wish our 2b or SS could have put up the numbers he put up in his prime. Berkman as a career .900 hitter is pretty impressive. To put it in perspective. Berkman had a higher career OPS than Vlad. That and OBP was the the only thing higher than Vlad, but still for a career, to finish with a +900 OPS isn't something to dismiss.
  6. The goalie depth on this team is just silly/unfair.
  7. Well, he would have received $14 million if he accepted it. That would be $11 million more than the average MLB salary. And, according to MLBtraderumors article Free Agent Contract Trends: 2007-08 To Present $14 million would be $5 million more than the AAV of free agents for this offseason. When you look at it, it's Boras greed or a steroid user that is going to be hurt the most from this. I don't know about any of you, but after Morales declined it, it was pretty obvious that it wasn't going to end well for him.
  8. Wait, I thought Musk was revolutionary with the Tesla. Looks like he's using century old technology.
  9. Not really a stupid rule. Since Kendry$ could have easily accepted the $14 million offer. It was a stupid gamble for the Mariners to even offer it. Then again, considering the agent, the Mariners probably read the tell real well. Just because someone bluffs with a 2-7 and wins, doesn't mean you should change the rules to poker.
  10. Yup, CBA has a specific limit on it, till the succeeding Rule 4 draft. That would be June 5-7.
  11. He'll hit 98 on the gun. And win comeback player of the year. Then blow his arm out when the Angels re-sign him again.
  12. I'd think you would have to look at teams that came into the league similar to when the Angels did in 1961. Just because the history of some of these teams like the Yanks, Dogs, even the A's goes back to the late 1800's. So astros 62, Blue Jays 77, rays 98, mariners 77, Rangers 61, royals 69, Rockies 93, Padres 69, nationals 69, mets 62, marlins 93, Diamondbacks 98, and Brewers 69. I think we match up to these teams pretty well.
  13. Mariners should have sided with Peguero, and shipped Hernandez to us.
  14. I still don't get what the love for Burnett is, and the hate for Arroyo. In the end, I think both will be signed by a NL team. Arroyo for 2 years, and not the 3 he was looking for. A lot of these pitchers and hitters for that matter might be feeling the heat, with it becoming so close to when camps open. Angels should just throw out a 2/$10 million and see if he bites.
  15. So that's what happens to school pets after the year is over.
  16. Deport Justin Bieber petition tops 100,000; White House must respond http://www.latimes.com/nation/shareitnow/la-sh-deport-justin-bieber-petition-100000-20140129,0,1069943.story#ixzz2roYrwgi7 LOL
  17. For a minor league contract. It's up there with the Mulder signing. Great if it works out. No big deal if it doesn't.
  18. We should know by the end of April. If we have another just like 2002 start, we might as well start prepping for 2015. IMO Keys will be. Will Pujols not be lame and at least produce a .825-850 OPS. That would be a natural regression throwing out 2013. But if he regresses from 2013, we are in trouble. Will Hamilton have at least a .850 OPS. He's more of a jeckle and hyde player. His OPS seems to bounce around like Santana's ERA. Good news is, this should be his on year. Will Blanton at least go back to career norms. I hate Blanton. But the closer we get to spring training, the more I'm resigned to the fact that he will start the beginning of the season. We will be paying him $7.5 million. And you know deep down that the Angels will give him a chance. If he gets to at least a 1.3 WHIP, 4.5 ERA, and with Pujols and Hamilton rebounding, he would be servicable. If we get the 1.61 WHIP, 6.04 ERA like last season, than our 2014 start will be like 2002. Or more like 2013 and 2012. I think we will be fighting for a spot till the end. And not the pollyanna oh we got eliminated with 2 weeks left, so the season was good. If we get eliminated, more like last day or two. /crosses fingers
  19. I think it's more likely that if the pitchers are off to a slow start, they would look for a new pitching coach.
  20. Since the new CBA rules started. Yes. Lohse was signed on 3/25 last year for 3/$33, Bourne on 2/11 for 4/$48. So if these players that have first round picks attached to them continue to have delusions of grandeur, cough Santana and his $100 million+ proposal that his agent sent out, expect them to remain unsigned.
  21. Anything is better than what they have now. Of course the protection rating on the caps are something like 80 or 90 mph. But again, it's better than being protected by wool.
