  6. Oh, and I thought this thread was going to be about Felix Pie and how we should or did acquire him.
  7. 100% AW.com 99% of that is AO because he is getting soft in his old age. Not enough fire and brimstone. And what's up with sticking to a 3 week ban. If AO could bring his game, then I could more fairly distribute the blame.

  11. Man, that's a shame that it will leave a museum and become some rich collectors private toy. Hopefully it's not the museum itself selling it, but the donor that lent it. In any case, hopefully the new buyer will see fit that it goes back to a museum.

  14. Redid some numbers. Added our trades. And also factored in Smiths contract. Luxury Tax, we are screwed if we don't go over. 2016 $168 2017 $127 2018 $101 2019 $88 2020 $84
  15. People are throwing the Luxury Tax out and they are attributing the wrong amount. There is only one Luxury Tax amount. It is in simple terms the average yearly salary of the player which is (total salary + extra compensation) / year. You can get the general amount by just doing total salary/year. This is the basis for the Luxury Tax. So for each player, you add it up, for the Angels this season (while I haven't made adjustments to my spreadsheet in a while, so I don't have guys like Victorino, and Murphy.) was at $173 million. The threashhold this season is $186 million. We are probably very close to that figure right now. The other figure that people are constantly mistaking as the Luxury Tax is the current or beginning of the year payrolls. So for sporttrack, they are listing the current payrolls. Current payroll has nothing to do with the Luxury tax. Especially in the Angels case since Pujols and Trouts salaries are backended. And that's why you are falsely seeing that we have a lot of luxury tax money to spend. We don't. As for an increase in the Luxury Tax. The amount will probably be small. Only the Dodgers are blowing through the Luxury Tax. No other team is going over. On the MLB Player side, the average MLB salary is still continuing to rise. On the MLB side, outside of the Dodgers, no team is trying to buy the World Series. When you look at the standings, no team in the AL has over a .600 win pct. In the AL only the central is over .600. I really believe that parity is beginning to set in, where you don't have the rich vs the no chance poor. And because of that, I can really see a very small bump in the Luxury Tax upcoming. From my rough figures. Luxury Tax wise, 2016 $158 million, 2017 $118 million, 2018 $100 million, 2019 $88 million, 2020 $84 million. That is what we are looking at in the Trout Era. And if Arte won't go over, then his infatuation with Pujols will have cost us dearly.

  18. Unless you are signing one year deals or trading for mercs. It's hard to stay under once you go over. In the Angels case, for Free Agency they will need to spend on players requiring multiple years. In the big free agents cases, 5-7 years. IMO, you have to look at Trout as a 5 year commodity. After the 5 years, you probably will have nothing. Do you rebuild? i would say no. Because it takes 3-6 years for prospects to pan out. Look at the angels farm. We do not have those types of prospects. So we would waste 3-6 years of Trout trying to rebuild a winner. Do you stand pat? 5 years and counting of spinning the wheels. Looking at the playoff teams, or at least the division leaders. Do the Angels really stack up well against those teams looking at next year? IMO, no. Spend? If we get the right pieces, will the Angels be able to stack up against the current division leaders? We are currently 25th in the league in runs scored. 12th in the league in runs allowed. We definitely need help on the offense side of things. But to get that help we will need to spend. Spend to make the most of the 5 years of Trout.

  22. Wish list would be an ace, C, 2B, LF. Ace. For some reason I want Zimmerman over Price. Something about Price bugs me. Like he will wilt in big games, or that his arm will pop out. Not that Zimmerman is a picture of health. But at least Zimm already has that TJ out of the way. But I can also see the Angels standing pat here. 2B. As I said in a previous post. I hope we trade for Holt on the Red Sux. He gives us youth, some speed, OBP, can play 2b or really any position. He has no pop. But with our soon to be bloated contracts, he gives us 4 years of club control. I picture him as an Eckstein/Figgins type player. LF. Heyward or Cespedes. I really think you need protection for Trout. Pujols is just an anchor right now. It's either homer or single for him. IMO, I think Cespedes fits the #4 role better than Heyward so he would be my choice. C. I just don't know on this one. We could go FA'cy, or try and trade for someone. Just don't know who is available. In the end though. Angels have to be willing to spend. We need to take advantage of the next 5 years of Trout, and not just settle for trying to make the playoffs. If we keep spinning our wheels, the greater the chance that we will only have Trout for those 5, and maybe less years.
