the idea of the gov't coming to take any of us away is intriguing. how do any of you see this playing out? if they come in the middle of the night while you're asleep, you're at a distinct disadvantage just from being groggy. i'd guess your gun is locked up and it would be an effort to get to it, which you aren't likely to have enough time to do. if they come in the middle of the day, i'd imagine they'd come with enough firepower to overwhelm you and whatever weapons you have. i haven't really considered any other alternatives. whaddaya see happening?

if the alternative is to have them stay at home and just hang out with others who aren't motivated, i'd rather have them at school. think of the carnage THAT would potentially cause. and a shot in the dark here, but i'm guessing most of these kids are probably not ready to enter the work force. that spells a TON of trouble. some kids are late bloomers. you have to give them that chance at self-discovery, even if it's not the majority of kids in this situation. i wish all high schools would teach more life skills classes, like how to grocery shop, maintain a bank account, read food labels, fill out a job application, etc. Also, have those kids take aptitude tests to see where their interests really lie and start sending them down that path. we need as many mechanics as we do business people.

been watching a few episodes today as it's a free preview weekend on hbo. somewhat interesting but terribly slow moving. not a fan at all of shows that are shot so darkly you can't see all the action/characters in a scene.

These greens blow. Asking a playing to hit a 245 yard shot into a crowned green that is designed to hold high shots is stupid and not an accurated test.

I've always approached homework as a time to complete whatever you didn't finish in class. With nearly every assignment I give, I allow plenty of class time in which to complete it. I do this to try and reduce the homework burden on kids and because there are too many kids who simply won't do the work at home, which frustrates everybody involved. I rarely assign separate assignments as just homework. There are a couple of word searches that I use with US History, but the answers have to come through answering questions from a reading, and are sufficiently challenging. Some assignments are easy, and I think it's good to mix in an easy one here and there. The motivated kids like a break once in a while, and the lower students get a chance for some easy points, which helps them. Ideally, I would assign mostly projects and more writing.

My brother got our tickets for the rally and we'll also be at the parade. Anyone else going tomorrow?

i LOVE this team. what a playoff run. i figured chicago was going to be the toughest round to get through, but fortunately for the kings, the blackhawks didn't play as physical a game as the ducks and sharks. see you at the parade and rally on monday!
