I'm curious . . . how do libertarians suggest the US deal with the thousands and ten thousands of new people who come to live and work here? what to do about housing them? what to do if any of them are criminals? what to do is any of them are terrorists? i don't know the libertarians viewpoint on any of this and am interested in hearing about it.

our "pretty smart people" continue to not come up with any kind of reasonable action plan. meanwhile, our state is going bankrupt because we continue to financially support millions who come here any way they can. this problem is decades old. how much longer until there's a reasonable solution?

as a nation, we've frequently stepped up and helped during humanitarian crises, and i don't think i know anyone who's had an issue with that. but this isn't a crisis situation that is going on right now. there has to be some kind of balance between handing out so many benefits without requiring those who receive them to contribute a fair amount. our state politicians are morons when it comes to finding a balance, and our federal gov't are idiots by continuing to do so very little to fix the system.

that's it, don. the conflicts in the middle east go back centuries. there's no end in sight to some/most of the fighting because neither side is looking for a compromise. they want things to resolve ONLY in a way that benefits themselves. compromise doesn't exist for an awful lot of them, and that's probably why their hatred for each other continues these centuries later.

someone on the old aw.com board once described people in the middle east this way: "they don't want to be reasoned with. they want to be obeyed." still so very, very true.

espy guys were saying today that lebron has never been the highest paid player on his team, so expect him to seek a max contract wherever he goes. one commentator also said that this year will be nothing like "the decision" circus of four years ago. things will go through lebron's agent first. one of the local sportscasters said the lakers announced they were going to go hard after lebron, whether or not he's interested in coming here.

if i'm a pitcher and watch guys i'm going to face take their swings in the home run derby, i'm going to pay attention and perhaps it might affect the way i pitch to them down the road. maybe that accounts for some of the regression we've seen by several players over the years. i hope trout stays away from it as he's not really a home run hitter. i'd rather see someone like hamilton or pujols in it than trout.
