we still have troops in okinawa, south korea, and germany. i'd have been fine if we had left troops in iraq. in the absence of any US presence, ISIS has stepped in to fill what they see as a void. if the US is still there, maybe ISIS stays away.

i think "team player" is an important concept here for most positions. you're likely going to be working with others, and you need to show that while you're confidant, you can also put the needs of the team first as you start this new job.

my understanding is if you are staying more than one night, you leave a tip. $2 per night is what was told to me and i've tried to follow that. i usually leave the tip on the pillow on the day i check out. if i'm staying just one night, i don't tip.

my mom had to go get her own switch when she was a little girl. that was in illinois in the 1930s. i'm surprised at how many here have said they had to do the same thing. none of the kids i grew up with used a switch. it was always a paddle or, more often than not, just a spanking with the hand. my parents usually just used their hand with me, though i think my dad would sometimes use a wooden spoon. at school we used to get spanked with a wooden paddle. in first grade, though, my principal had a leather razor strap, and i got spanked with that once. Only once.

catch 22 on the brush. if it rains a lot, there's more brush to burn, making for a more intense fire that's more difficult to extinguish. when there's less rain, there's less brush but it's a lot drier and catches fire more easily. or something like that.

Was spanked more times than I can remember as a kid. Spanking doesn't bother because I think a time out accomplishes very, very little. Being hit on bare skin hard enough to cause cuts and bleeding intimates a lot of anger and goes far beyond an effective punishment, and AP is deservedly in trouble for this.

Using drones and bombing runs will help, but only for a little while. At some point I expect us to send in the troops. We can can't be half-committed in this.
