while my wife was pregnant and before we knew what we were having, one of the boys name we strongly considered was Tanner. we had a really, really difficult time trying to decide on a boys name because of me being a teacher - it was too easy to associate different kids with different names, and neither of us wanted to think of some troublemaker every time we mentioned our kids' name. We automatically decided we would not use any boys name that began with the letter "J" (john, jordan, jonathan, jason, etc.). nothing but trouble in that group.

"A cybersecurity analyst who was removed from a United Airlines flight after tweeting about the airplane's security vulnerabilities told an FBI agent he had previously hacked into the in-flight entertainment system on a different flight and was able to take command of the plane long enough to make it fly sideways" yes, only slightly unsettling. yikes.

spent today at a huge, district-wide church meeting, a large convention we have every four years. i'm sitting in the very back of the church and can see quite a bit, including a few people who seem to get up about every fifteen minutes. included in that group is a very tall woman who looks very homely. i see her and can't really look away each time she gets up. talking later in the day with my cousin, we start talking about people who were mentioned at the meeting that were honored for retiring during the last four years. included was a woman with a name vaguely familiar. about that same time, the tall homely woman walks by and my cousin says "you know who that is?" no, no idea. she tells me that "she" used to work with me but was a male at the time. yep, this guy has gone full jenner. married with two daughters. looked him/her up online and found a radio interview. sounds and looks like the guy i worked with. my jaw hit the floor. this guy is at least 65 and apparently came out to his wife about ten years ago.

a few years ago several guys here made a mad men yourself picture. straddling and notti still use theirs.

isn't there an easy to understand difference between "i'm thankful God has helped me" vs. "i recommend all of you spend time at a catholic church. it's the best."?

i fart a lot in line. as a result, i don't really have any problems with the people around me. at least not the unconscious ones.

on our way home from dinner last night (around 9:15) there was a terrific lightning storm visible from the 210 in san gabriel valley.

first time i went to see johnny carson at the tonight show, bb king was the musical guest. enjoyed it.

swordfish when marion is in the giant basket in the back of the truck in raiders of the lost ark.

i saw this in a black theater in washington, d.c. i knew what was coming. the audience didn't. one of the funniest reactions i've ever seen in a theater. people spilling out of that movie right and left at the reveal. absolutely hilarious.
