  1. the weekend the US beat the russians in hockey in 1980? i was at a friend's house in cambria. good memories.
  2. this looks really good. thanks for posting the trailer, red. now for crying outloud, go find a profile picture, you pedestrian.
  3. every year for veterans day and memorial day, there is a flyover featuring WWII planes. the really great thing is that they fly almost directly over my classroom. hearing those old engines whine is kind of fun.
  4. if you're in washington d.c., go to the udvar-hazy air museum. it's part of the smithsonian complex and has some amazing pieces, including a fair amount of apollo things plus a shuttle. loved it there, even though i only had about an hour to walk around. got to meet harrison schmidt, who was on apollo 17 while i was there - right place, right time.
  5. a vegetarian restaurant that has cats? no, we don't want you on the team.
  6. i usually just say "hey laura, go fetch my car. let's drive the black one today." that seems to work pretty well. and yes, it should be jag-war. stupid pretentious brit commercials.
  7. Shenandoah, a civil war film with jimmy stewart. watch it with my 8th graders every year. robin hood, the one with errol flynn. it's very cheesy in parts, but it's a good story. Spartacus. holds up very well (the kirk douglas one).
  8. 1941 one of spielberg's early films. a comedy that was entertaining.
  9. gallipoli is heart-wrenching because it's so well done. one my faves. also partial to an oldie, In Harm's Way, with john wayne and kirk douglas. good story all the way around. agree with blarg, if midway is on i'm watching it. tora tora tora the winds of war
  10. A five year deal is reasonable. It'll be easier to do once they dump Richards.
  11. wow. so it's just simply the price of being here in this country? couldn't disagree more.
  12. "The Supreme Court did not answer the pressing question of how broadly federal prosecutors are allowed to use Sarbanes-Oxley in the digital age. Can you be prosecuted for deleting a potentially incriminating tweet? For uninstalling Firefox? For clearing your browser history? How much of their digital data should citizens have to preserve in case law enforcement wants to take a look?" this is all slippery slope type stuff. it's pretty darn frightening, too.
  13. i agree with you in theory, but not in practice. look at how trigger happy some officers are these days. do you want to the one that pushes one of them over the edge and pay for it with your life? i don't. i think part of the problem right now is that there are some officers who are letting the stress of their work get to them, and they're not handling it well, and that there are too many citizens who think they don't need to cooperate if they haven't committed a crime.
  14. I've taught sex ed to fifth graders for about twenty years. You can't imagine how giggling goes on when we use the anatomically correct words for body parts. They're all about 11 years old, so I can't fathom how these kids would react to seeing what's in a sex toy shop. It's way beyond what they're ready for (remember that I'm at a conservative Christian school with a pretty conservative clientele). This was an extremely poor decision by the teacher and administration.
  15. That's a well-written article.
  16. When the police ask you to cooperate, cooperate. They can screw things up for you in a heartbeat.
  17. I think we can all agree on two exceptions, however: dodgers fans and raiders fans, because nobody really likes being murdered.
  18. I think we've all experienced being overwhelmed by large numbers of blosox fans at the Big A, but I don't like the idea of the team making a policy. I'm not sure what the answer is, but I don't think this should be the way teams go.
  19. i think the plane is getting purchased whether or not it's part of God's plan for creflo and his ministry.
  20. a buddy and i used to kid around that the number cause of death was loss of life. who knew it would come true.
