i saw him at the comedy and magic club in hermosa beach several years before his tv show. his observational humor was terrific. it would be a complete change of character and nature for him to start being offensive and crass, and i don't think it would go over very well at all.

someone was talking about Das Boot a couple of pages ago. man, the tension in that one at times was palpable. the subtitles didn't bother me at all. crimson tide was also mentioned earlier. i liked that one as well. no one has mentioned gone with the wind yet. it's not one of my favorites because scarlett is such a frustrating character. but clark gable was very good in it, as was olivia de havilland.

it's a very dark movie, not the kind you walk away from going "hey that was great!" it's well done, but it's very dark. i saw it once and that was more than enough for me.

you teach your way and i'll teach mine. i actually have an older copy of spartacus where the oysters and bath scene was trimmed quite a bit.

would love to have a bullet train running through the middle of the state. not sure what it would cost to ride it, but at this rate i gotta believe it's going to be like $500 one way just to pay for the stupid thing. they've got a ton of problems in settling on the course of the track, too. there are areas where there are lots of houses in the way, or schools, or whatever else. gonna cost a ton of cash to get the property, and the number of legal challenges is going to tie this thing up for years, all while the price continues to go up. at some point they're gonna have to admit they don't have anywhere near the money to pay for this monstrosity. raising our taxes to pay for the horror show should not be an option. once again: knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit. wisdom is knowing not to put it in a fruit salad. that applies here.

i have no idea what crime she committed. i do know that he asked her to sit down and she wouldn't cooperate. my impression was that this was happening as the officer was trying to get a handle on what happened and who was involved. she was one of a few that wouldn't cooperate, but something triggered his overreaction and he went too far with what he did to her. but i don't think her lack of cooperation can be totally dismissed as "innocent bystander" right at that moment, either. again, if i'm at that place in that moment and any officer asks me to sit down or leave, i'm going to cooperate. i want to deescalate the situation for myself as quickly as possible. i don't want to give an officer any reason to handcuff me or put me in his squad car. i also don't want to give him a reason to pull his gun on me. i'm going to cooperate fully.
