i gotta side with notti on this one, juan.

when my dad lived in taiwan, he would bring things back to give to us. a lot of times he ended up bringing sugar packets from a taiwan mcdonalds or plastic forks and spoons (usually used and sometimes with food debris still on them) from the same places. i have no doubt that's how he got his silverware for his apartment, which was fine to do. but bringing them back to us was weird.

started watching Quantico. i like the story lines and the lead chic is om nom nom. this will not be the most sophisticated show i ever watch, but so far i've been very entertained.

there was a story in the news cycle this morning about a group that was trying to buy some nuke material from the ruskies to build a dirty bomb to use against the US. honestly, i agree with you. i think it's just a matter of time.

in order to get a gun, and especially a CCW, i think it should be absolutely mandatory for owners to be tested and licensed, just like you need to be licensed to drive a car. there should be mandatory classes for you to attend about gun safety and when it's okay to use it if you have a CCW. if we're not willing to do these things as a society, it's going to cost us dearly. old west kind of stuff where people shoot at morons who steal drills from home depot.

you and i approached this from two different angles. while i was thinking more of how citizens don't seem to be willing to have an honest discussion, you were looking at what has or hasn't been done in congress. fair enough. for the record, i'm embarrassed that my party is so beholden to the gun lobby, enough so that they won't honestly seek reasonable fixes to what is a growing problem. they're just entrenched with "leave my guns alone, you commie pinko bastards!". until our congress can sit down and honestly approach this issue and find ways to reasonably address the problem, it's going to be contingent on us as citizens to work from the ground up. i don't see enough of that happening, and that was a big part of my point.

my dad grew up then, too. my dad is willing to spend his money, but he often approaches life like a poor person. even when he was making some money he looked for coupons and 2-for1 deals, and we'd eat at a smorgasboard by our house because it was all you can eat. when we go out to eat now, he eats every. single. bite. of food on his plate, no matter how long it takes (which is long) and no matter how long ago the rest of us finished (usually a while ago). he also talks a lot while he eats, so there's no such thing as a quick meal with him.
