  1. shoes come off as soon as i walk in. i have a really nice pair of ugg slippers and those are on my feet the rest of the day. love these slippers. i'm on my third pair.
  2. okay, i'm going to offer an unpopular opinion that i don't think has much scientific evidence. i think the proliferation of video games that emphasize killing your enemy has an effect on how people problem solve, especially with kids. There's someone in your way in the game of life? kill them and move on. You obviously aren't going to sell many games that ask kids to stop in the middle of a confrontation and talk about their feelings or come to a peaceful resolution. Because of their lack of life experience in dealing with conflict plus their emotional immaturity, there are many who see the only/best way to resolve conflict to be where you dispose of your enemy. games like this don't have nearly the same effect with adults, but a kids mind is a lot different from an adults mind in a whole host of ways. being around 12 year olds for 32 years has shown me this time and time again. please be kind in piling on your hate to me. thanks.
  3. hey! it's HUGE news! he's earned a spot at their table.
  4. one of my 8th graders was trying to make us believe that nick foles is the best QB in the NFL. i should have given him a detention for saying something like that.
  5. that was insane! what a finish! the kid who caught the ball? his dad was part of the Cal team that had that amazing comeback win over the 'furd (known simply in berkely as "the play") where they tossed the ball around and ran into the band in the end zone.
  6. didn't watch it, either. figured it was easily going to be a double digit loss.
  7. so gang shootings shouldn't count?
  8. We're still paying Hamilton, right? No need to add another bad contract again. Would like to have a season where we don't have any bad contracts on the books.
  9. This thread took a very, very disturbing turn.
  10. One of the stats discussed yesterday was that there have been 346 days this year, and there have been 351 multiple victim shootings in the US this year. More than one per day! Something needs to change, and soon.
  11. i'm gonna have to go into hiding, aren't i?
  12. no, no one even remotely close. we were a very, very small private college that wasn't even in a league. most of it was pick-up games, but we did play a few other colleges in my time there (but just for fun). every few years i get to tell people i played college hockey, but it's not like i was an ncaa athlete or part of a legit college hockey program. we got to play for fun, bought uniforms, and got to tell people we were on the officially college hockey team.
  13. that gets into the area of why any civilian needs a gun that powerful. i don't think me or you or anyone else needs to have a military-grade weapon.
  14. i'm speaking in general terms. i don't have any kind of exhaustive list of medications or mental health issues, but i would trust people with that knowledge to be involved in the process.

  16. i guess the rest of us will just make our own lunch plans. *sigh* #feelingleftout
  17. ever had anyone take you in the corner boards with an elbow in your jaw as they mash your face against the glass? i played college hockey. consider yourself warned.
  18. ha! back in the late 80s my men's chorus was singing at a church in san diego. there was a potluck lunch afterwards, and during the lunch they had a little ceremony to honor one of their parishoners who had just returned from one of our attacks on libya. he was a pilot and was willing to tell stories afterward lunch was over. he said one of the things they would do was find the radio frequency of the libyan pilots and then harass them endlessly. they'd make pig squeals and talk about having sex and watching wormen at the beach in bikinis. he said the US pilots really had a lot of fun because they knew the libyan pilots were as good at being pilots as mike scioscia is at running sprints. the part about making squealing pigs sounds was pretty funny.
  19. cue the barbaro video and accompanying comments.
  20. man, it's tough to lose a pet. sorry for your loss, chuck.
  21. a year or two ago i saw a stat that said the average graduating senior from college already has a $3k credit card debt. my daughter starts college in 18 months, and i'm already scared for her.
