thanks for the explanations, gentlemen. my thinking was this: if there are 10 horses in the race and i bet $10 on each horse to win, i'm sure to lose $90. but depending on which horse wins and the odds on it to win, i stand a chance of winning much more than $90. am i correct? i think the last time i went to the track was at hollywood park around 1966 or 67. i know as little about gambling on a horse as any single human could possible know.

Lincecum has a lot to prove. Tieing him down with a two or three year contract coming off of some poor seasons and a big injury would be very high risk. Let him prove himself first. If he does well with us, there'll be no shortage of owners willing to spend their money on him.

In the Revolutionary War, Americans did indeed shoot from behind rocks and trees but they also marched and fired from formation. They were organized like an actual military unit and were easy enough to spot during combat. They hid in plain sight until the battle cry was sounded. Combatants today dress like civilians and hide amongst them. They are not out in the open at all, not even once they engage the enemy. There's clearly overlap with the 1776 guys, but not completely the same.

i don't know when it happened (maybe the 72 olympics with the palestinian terrorists?) but i don't like the way war is conducted today. all the combatants look like civilians, except, of course, for US forces. i'm not sure how to word that in a way that doesn't sound so captain obvious, but i'm sure you get my point.

vegas, it's hard to say what people will watch. my wife and i like to watch home improvement shows even though we live in a rental house and can't do anything to it. i also like to watch those shows where they build treehouse homes or these $200,000 swimming pools. there's no accounting for taste from any of us, really.

was flipping channels today in the area of all the sports channels that i never watch. was surprised at how many of them were showing poker tournaments. it was on at least five channels.
