    continue tonight on NBC, for those interested. they conducted the diving trials over the last few days and both of those teams are set. now just figuring out the swim teams. men's gymnastic trials are done, and the women have their trials in two weeks in san jose.

    without adequate security, i'm not sure i'd want to go, either as a spectator or an athlete. and imagine the headache of trying to get around in a country without sufficient transportation. oy.

    on a somewhat related note, i'm noticing more and more bicyclists running red lights and completely ignoring many traffic laws.

    had a student several years ago whose father was an engineer for one of the train lines. asked him if he'd ever hit a car on the tracks, and he said yes. asked him what it felt like and he said it was like smashing a bunch of matchsticks, just like they weren't even there.

    The July 7-10 tournament at the Greenbrier in West Virginia has been cancelled due to floods this week. The water was raging through the property like it was the Nile. No way to get the course in playing shape in time.
