ha, there was a story earlier this week about one of the venues in brazil. not sure which one, but apparently there was a german company involved in pouring the concrete for it and someone scratched in the wet concrete "7-1." when it was discovered, brazilian officials quickly had it covered up/elimintated. apparently there's a new phrase being used in brazil for when something goes terribly wrong - "we were seven'd to one."

i have to go there every once in a great while to the white memorial hospital. there isn't anything remotely resembling gentrification there, unless you're talking about the taco truck on chavez ave that recently got new tires.

as brandon mentioned, the special stories they do on espn are always very touching. i could watch those every day. whether they do it in front of cameras or without any present, i greatly respect all the athletes and stars who get involved in these. it was a great idea that someone started, and it continues to be one today.

wife and i stayed at the pebble beach resort for our tenth anniversary. told them at the time i made the reservation that it was our anniversary, not expecting anything or realizing it would matter. booked a garden view room, which basically meant a room on the backside of the lodge facing the parking lot. when we got there for check-in, discovered they had upgraded us to a suite overlooking the 18th green. played the first 18 that morning, and the 19th that night. also watched Titanic win best picture oscar from there. there was a bottle of champagne waiting in our room for us, as well. by all means let them know it's your anniversary.
