  1. you've just perfectly described my dad (minus the running the mile thing).
  2. too bad. i'll bet he'd be able to throw a ridiculous curve ball.
  3. johnny bench autographed dodger program from 1971. he signed for me before the game. ticket stub from attending game 1 of the '88 world series.
  4. back in the 60s baseball cards were for fun, and no one thought of them as collectibles, so we played with them and did all kinds of things to them. my friends and i liked to draw stuff on the faces of the players, like beards, mustaches, glasses, stitches, and black eyes. it was hilarious for us. fast forward 30+ years. i'm going through my card collection and discover i have a johnny bench rookie card. it was one of those old topps cards that showed two players, side by side. at some point in my childhood i decided that johnny needed a pair of glasses and some stitches, so i obliged. in ink. and did i do anything to ron tompkins, the no-name that shared the card with him? of course not. $400 right down the drain on that one. still have it.
  5. now that's a team usa golf shirt i would buy.
  6. i assumed the horse was actually stolen and this was going to be a BLM thing.
  7. ha, that was my question too, redondo.
  8. should have held out for the kent hrbek.
  9. 1600 knives in a starter kit sounds just about right.
  10. the signs have changed? oh, great. you might just as well have told me i was raised by wild wolves because my real parents were abducted by aliens.

  12. This thread needs some thunder . . . SOME HALO THUNDER!!!!!
  13. you didn't mention any pitchers, but i'd have to say that weaver has pleasantly surprised me the most this season (at least for pitchers).
  14. JJ Watt expected to go on IR for his back. I think he had surgery on it in the off season, but he tweaked it in last thursday night's game. there's debate on whether he'll be able to return after his 8 weeks on IR. big loss for the texans defense.
  15. i have no qualms about the fan experience at the stadium, other than the often crappy home team with a bunch of no-name players that i have to watch. adding more dining options is never a bad thing, but it's not what draws me to the ballpark. i like the stadium and i like how the stadium looks. won't complain if they want to add some new architectural elements. my concern is that a lot of the enhancements teams want to do often are targeted for fans with money. that ends up excluding a lot of folks.
  16. as much as i loved him on the angels and rams broadcasts, i may have loved even more the show Sports Challenge, which enberg hosted. for you youngsters, it was a quiz show about sports. there were two teams of former players (usually from the four major sports), and they were asked all kinds of sports questions. sometimes there were video questions and enberg himself often dubbed over the play by play. they didn't have slouches on those teams, either. the former yankee team included joltin' joe dimaggio, tommy heinrich, and lefty gomez. my mom got us tickets to a couple of tapings, and for me it was better than going to disneyland. they had a former rams team on for one of the episodes, and elroy hirsch and tank younger were part of the team. during a break in taping i had to go to the can and hirsch was there. i asked him why they called him crazy legs, and he told me it was because he ran like a girl. that was a memorable moment for 11 year old me to experience - talking to a pro football player without a crush of people around. i loved watching this show and watched as much as i possibly could. enberg made it that much more exceptional.
  17. Just finished spending a couple of innings in the booth with victor and Gubi telling stories. What a refreshing walk down memory lane. We were blessed to be able to listen to him and drysdale together for all those years. best wishes in your retirement years, professor.
  18. A hit from behind in a team scrimmage shouldn't be on anyone's list of things to do.
  19. And they were a million times better at it, too. rose and millar are as annoying as f***.
  20. Maybe they want to watch the train wreck and see if someone totally crashes and burns. Who knows. Maybe ask someone who's undecided.
  21. maybe undecideds are waiting to see if there's anything in either of them worth voting for? maybe they're hoping johnson gets into the debates and can present his POV on the national stage? i'd say all of the trump and hill supporters and opponents are exactly where they were 24 hours ago.
