met with a guy about getting life insurance yesterday. i'm realistically looking at working another ten years and then hanging 'em up. with my daughter starting college in the fall, the amount of life insurance i'll be able to afford is not going to make much of a significant difference for my family, but i'm hoping it's better than nothing. when my FIL passed away in november, his widow received ~$2k in benefits. that was a pretty good motivator for me. going to meet with someone in the next couple of weeks about setting up a will/trust (thanks @yk9001 for the advice).

the only "offensive" thing this poorly written article alludes to is that one of his white professors showed a picture of slaves working. there was no context about why this picture was shown or what class it was shown in. if it's a class about the civil war/reconstruction/the civil rights movement, it's absolutely in context. if it's a class about microbiology, maybe *MAYBE* this kid has some kind of point. i agree with the idea that he was just looking to be offended, especially since he couldn't really point to any concrete evidence about what his professors did that was so offensive to him.

mcdavid's speed is pretty impressive. got to see him a couple of months ago when the oilers were in town, and my goodness, the boy can fly.

in the movie apollo 13 there was a very touching scene. tom hanks goes in to tell his son about the death of his three friends in the apollo 1 fire. the son asks why they died and hanks tells him it's because the door couldn't be opened from the inside. months later, when apollo 13 has their accident, the mom goes in to tell the son that his dad was in an accident in space. the boy looks at the mom and says, "was it the door?" i just about lost it the first time i saw that scene.

if you came up to glendale right now there would be plenty of people who take a sniff of you and ask "who's the lightweight from orange county? smells like he only used half a bottle of cologne. bwahahahaha!!"

bro, that is EXACTLY what you'll get at my house. i hate mayo so mrs. tank goes easy on it. she also adds mustard, always has. you can have your choice of dill or sweet pickles or none, and olives or none. however, there will be no white bread in the house. it's wheat only. i hope that's not a deal breaker.

in the 60s and 70s, when we started watching, wrestling was a pretty regional thing. it exploded in the 80s to become a national thing, and the WWF and the others emerged as powerhouses. we used to watch wrestling from the olympic auditorium in LA. to me, that place was huge. used to watch freddie blassie,john "the golden greek" tolos, bobo brazil, mil mascaras, and others there. even went to a few matches there with my dad, who was such a big fan he wrote a song for freddie blassie. he always thought it was on the up-and-up, too.

in the early days i used to confuse her with jobeth williams for some reason. wasn't really attracted to either of them.
