  1. Really? Okay. was there a league with better talent professionally than the major leagues during Ruth's time? If so, I again invite you to make a case.
  2. if you'd like to prove otherwise, go ahead and make your argument.
  3. ruth had no control over who he played against. can't really hold that against him.
  4. at the time, ruth's accomplishments were against the best talent in the world. while the talent level has improved and expanded, and while trout is certainly a dominant player in the MLB today against a much broader spectrum of talent, that in no way nullifies what ruth accomplished as both a hitter and a pitcher.
  5. I'm skeptical that his decision to avoid surgery was the best decision. I think he's going to have problems all season, and I'm doubtful he gets through the entire season.
  6. Declaring Trout (after five seasons) is better than Ruth after an entire career is, well, a pretty silly thing to do.
  7. ask the players what they're trying to do specifically so they can be promoted. ask them how they prepare when it's game day, what routines they have. how do they relax on off days?
  8. yeah, this is it in a nutshell. for as amazing as trout is, he hasn't won a championship or come close to one. that matters, whether we like to admit it or not. and storm, your auto correct needs some fine tuning.
  9. has anyone watched Brockmeyer? it looks kind of interesting but i don't really know anything about it.
  10. DJ injured his back in a fall at his rental home in augusta, and his ability to play is up in the air right now. think i'm going to do the prudent thing and replace him on my roster, but man, i sure was liking his chances for a green jacket this week.
  11. good! why is this thread 7 hours old and yet mine is the first response? there were nearly riots in the streets on this board when it was announced he was going to be a member of the NSC.
  12. whew! i thought you may gone all maplethorpe on us there for a second.
  13. so AO, what did you think of seeing mcdavid in person last night? think we could trade nolan and shore straight up to get him from the oil?
  14. are you kidding? adam was the viewer who called it in.
  15. the best thing about this poem? this . . .
  16. we once had a friend we called mad man whose mom always acted like a madam she'd find us a "date" and we thought "this is great!" until we found out it was adam
  17. was she friendly, like victor's mom kind of friendly? anything going on below the table that your competitors couldn't see?
  18. Back in the the old AOL Grandstand days, @Inside Pitch and I and a few others decided one aprils' fool day to bombard several different baseball message boards as huge trolls. I decided that my method would be to write sarcastic poetry as frequently as possible. in particular, trolling the mariner's board was of utmost fun. I wrote an ode to Randy Johnson to the tune of country singer Jim Reeves "Adios, Amigo", as it was right as the big unit was about to become a free agent. Best fun I'd had on the internet at that point. I only wish I had kept those poems somewhere. Long Live Mooky Spice.
  19. someone on the broadcast was talking about this very point, that the leaders (and only the leaders) come under much more scrutiny because of their tv time. they suggested having a tour official in the tv broadcast truck to be able to review things that may be an infraction, which seems reasonable. anything that is questionable needs to be dealt with as immediately as possible, and it should not be at the impetus of what viewers see on tv. the players and tour officials do a terrific job of policing themselves and it needs to be left in their hands, not yours and mine.
  20. First game of the year and the whiners are picking up right where they left off. again, some of you aren't happy unless you're miserable.
