  1. Apparently there was a fair amount of trouble caused by the suspect before the camera started filming, according to witnesses who were interviewed by channel 7. fwiw.
  2. Whew! Glad to hear it's not the marine layer or dehydration.
  3. Yeah, I much prefer the 99 because it tends to have less truck traffic. I hate getting stuck behind the trucker going 63 who's trying to pass another trucker going 62. Takes them about three miles and slows everyone done again and again. that crazy train money would be far better spent adding another lane in each direction on the 5.
  4. looks good. i'd eat it, but i'd toss some feta on top of it.
  5. you know what i watched yesterday? about 350 miles of I-5. would it have killed them to have planted a few trees here and there? man, what a friggin' boring drive. and i have four years left to drive it . . .
  6. as if you don't remember our weekend together in vermont...
  7. I've had the cauliflower rice twice and really liked it, mostly because it didn't taste like cauliflower.
  8. More like a couple of years. Surely he realizes this.
  9. Got her up to school early this afternoon and all went well. They had porters to help unload cars and carry stuff to their rooms so we were able to get everything unloaded and moved in just two trips. Many hands do indeed make light work. she really overpacked and we're bringing home a couple of things she either didn't need (sorry, floor lamp) or didn't have room for. Girls sure pack differently than guys... we left after dinner and a final trip to the bookstore. It was a teary farewell for my girls. We know she's in good hands but the house will feel differently now. We're already trying to work out a trip back up here. If only it wasn't a 900 mile trip to do this. We know she'll have some bumps along the way - maturing isn't always an easy journey. We hope that her best qualities will really be strengths to carry her through the challenging moments she's certain to face. We trust her, and will let her know as often as she needs to hear it that we've got her back. We have good friends nearby who are also support for her. She'll be okay. We'll be okay, too.
  10. each time i see Kal it makes me think of Kalifornia and the coming russian invasion. and yes, it scares me a little bit (berkely, not moscow).
  11. slept right through this one. didn't know about it until i saw my daughters' tweet this morning.
  12. today is a big day for us. we leave this afternoon to take our daughter up to college in NorCal. she's attending my alma mater where she'll major in early childhood education (and perhaps elem. ed.). she's been busy packing her stuff and cleaning her room, and we've been buying supplies. it's feeling kind of surreal. we know she's ready to do this, and i think we're ready for her to go, but being that this is our only child and this is the first time for this experience, well, it can get rather emotional at times, and i imagine our drive home this week may be a teary affair here and there. we're looking forward to it but at the same time, it's going to be a big adjustment for her and for us. would appreciate your prayers/positive thoughts for her (and us) in going through this.
  13. no worries. my wife would be horrified that anyone outside of her and i know about this.
  14. The USVI really relied heavily on natural beauty. All of that has been stripped clean. Going to be terribly difficult to rebuild, let alone attract tourists. I'm thinking it'll take 2+ years until those islands are able to return to normal tourism. the island of Barbuda is pretty much destroyed. Not sure it's even inhabitable.
  15. he was a terribly entertaining character and performed his role well.
  16. when it rains, it pours. hang in there, folks.
  17. your fatal flaw in this analogy is assuming kate and i will actually divorce. we won't.
  18. well, let's not get crazy . . . yet.
  19. this is a weird post. you demean the team for not having much talent, but then criticize them for not being able to catch the twins. and yet it's somehow a good summary of how some see this team. "they're a lousy team outside of trout, but why can't those bastards catch up to the crappy twins?"
  20. that reminds me, i need a new pair of New Balance. guess i have some shopping to do tonight. thanks!
  21. i've been seeing more and more recipes using cauliflower as a sub for pasta and pizza crust. it's healthy and an alternative, but i have a limit to how much i can eat. it still tastes like cauliflower no matter what you put on it, though smothering it in cheese is a good start.
