  1. another good game tonight. i'm liking what i see so far. i don't know what got into brownie, but i like it, a lot. also good to see martinez back in the lineup tonight. cliffy is on the shelf with the ubiquitous "upper body injury." anyone get the clifford zombie bobblehead tonight? it looked great!
  2. no El Camino, either. their record is built on a throne of cowardice.
  3. how come you didn't go with an atheist group?
  4. at least he didn't include any pictures of him and his dog this time.
  5. there are certainly people that make this a true statement, whether fanatics in the middle east or fanatics in the bible belt, but the vast majority of religious people i've encountered throughout my life are the exact opposite of what you think is true for all. i'm sorry that you feel this way about all people who are religious.
  6. we build hospitals and clinics, too.
  7. read a story earlier about a couple married some 55 years. they were renting a house for a weekend getaway with their son and his family. the fire woke them up and they got everyone out safely, but the road was a disaster and a fallen tree blocked the old couple so they retreated to the house even though it was on fire. they jumped into the pool and stayed there for six hours. husband's hands were burned from hanging onto the bricks on the side of the pool so they didn't drown. they survived so he left to go get help. ended up walking two miles but found police. they sent help but it was too late. wife had lung problems and all the smoke did her in (at least that what i surmised as the stupid article i was reading kept jumping back up to the top of the page, making me scroll back down time and time again - i finally gave up after they mentioned she had lung problems). tragic stuff. also, one of the sister schools in my system, redwood adventist academy, was a complete loss. fire destroyed everything that wasn't made out of brick. their students (128 kids in a K-12 school) are meeting at the local adventist church to continue classes for immediate future. pretty devastating stuff. they're asking for donations to get through the rest of the year, and anyone interesting in supporting this can send me a PM. they need absolutely everything. no one was at the school when the fire hit, so all are safe.
  8. can you go back and reshoot a couple of those? maybe from a slightly different angle so the sun doesn't cause a glare? thanks.
  9. i have no idea how they do this stuff. i was at the magic castle several years ago and we went downstairs to a close up magician. he had a partner that was blindfolded, and through a series of clues, the blindfolded guy was able to guess an object the magician had chosen from one of us. the object i had in my pocket was a kings handkerchief from the playoff, with a bunch of "go kings go" kind of stuff on it. i was about the third or fourth person he picked for the trick, so i was really paying attention to how the magician gave clues. and son of a gun if he didn't guess what it was. nothing in the clues gave it away to my eagle eye, which obviously missed a few important things. pretty awesome stuff all the way around.
  10. mike damon was the dude who always got concert tickets for everyone. ron was the older doosh who hit on stacy at her job at the pizza place in the mall, then nailed her in the dugout of the baseball field at night.
  11. vintage IP. the only thing missing is a follow-up post from Bads85.
  12. He reminds me of the rock creature in the fantastic four.
  13. Nate has always looked up to Joey Cora.
  14. that's not exactly an inspiring thing. so he should fit right in!
  15. eh, it's only a little puff of dust. can't be all that bad.
  16. one time my dad said he was going to the store and did i want a candy bar. "sure, dad. i'll take a hershey's." "you want a male or female one?" "huh? "you know, with or without nuts? bwahahahaha!" he'd probably get arrested for using that kind of dad humor today.
  17. i loved reading the paper as a kid, obviously the sports page but also the political cartoons. even figured out on my own two separate ways to calculate how many games back a team was in the standings. the sunday travel section in the times has been one of my favorites sections as an adult. do they still do the geography quiz on the back page? man, some of those were pretty tough to get right. they also have had some chick who does a feature on good websites/apps for travel. liked her a lot and picked up a few apps on my phone because of her. i do most of my reading online now, and as my newspaper continued to pile up unread, figured it was time to say adios. they just ended up in the recycling can unread. no reason to keep wasting my money. i'll still buy a paper occasionally for special events, like the inauguration or when the kings won their first two cups (bought a TON of papers the day after). i never read jim murray, and it's one of my great regrets in life. a buddy recently gave me a book filled with murray's columns from his last few years of writing his column. man, what a gifted storyteller he was. that's how i wish i could write (minus all those pesky capital letters and whatnot). i'm taking my time with it because i don't want it to end. it'll be a sad day when i finish it. have enjoyed it immensely. if the times had a columnist like that today, i'd reconsider subscribing. i used to love alan malamud in the herald-examiner and his "notes on a scorecard" for the very same reason. both he and murray had a fascination for boxing and horse racing that completely escapes me, but i still read every word because they drew me in. rick sadowski and his hockey coverage of the kings was the same way. today? pfft. i wouldn't read bill plashcke if i was forced to at gunpoint. i think that gigantic doosh bag who used to write on page 2 of the sports section pretty much ruined the experience for me - tj simers. i hated seeing his column there. i miss having a paper that was interesting.
