here's something to consider - think of the money generated from winning and being in the playoffs, maybe even a WS title or two in that time frame. i've no recollection of ever seeing it, but i wonder just where the angels income comes from out side of ticket sales and concessions and their tv contract. Perhaps having a winning, championship caliber team should generate a fair amount of revenue (or at least i THINK it should), and maybe that helps the budget enough that going over the luxury tax threshold isn't too big a deal, at least for a few years.
