during the 2010 all star game i was a volunteer and was working at the hotel where we would escort and then shuttle players to auditorium for their autograph sessions. went to go get some water from the players area and was talking to a bald guy. turned out to be wally joyner and i nearly froze like a mo fo. thought it was pretty darn cool that he took the time to read my name off my lanyard and address me by name. wish i would have recognized him earlier so we could have chatted some more. -
i can't recall it happening in recent years, but i remember some writers saying deliberately that in their view, very, very few players deserved to be voted in in their first year of eligibility. in fact, and i could be wrong on this, i think there was some crusty old fart in philadelphia who proudly proclaimed things like that year after year. it was awhile ago - maybe in the 70s and 80s - and i don't know his name, but he just looked like a clown for saying stuff like that. from where i sit, it's hard to understand that no single player has had 100% from the writers yet.

i'm taking tiger this week. i don't like that the good golfers are all 25-33% of our total budget each week. it prevents us from having a week with rory, johnson, spieth, and fowler on the same roster. i hope the majors give us more cash to play with.

Anaheim adds security as officials brace for homeless exodus
Tank replied to Ace-Of-Diamonds's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
there's an area around glendale with a good sized homeless population. police officer spoke at my wife's work and said this "city" has set up it's own rules, has it's own gov't, and even elected it's own mayor. they really don't want any help from outsiders and just want to be left alone to live on their own terms. -

i have a cutco pocket knife and it's kept relative sharpness for close to twenty years.

yeah, there's a lot of duds on that list. a lot. not sure why anyone would want to remake dirty rotten scoundrels. it worked perfectly the first time around and should be left alone. there's also a female version of ocean's eleven coming out in a few weeks. stars sandra bullock. not sure about this one yet.

after ryan threw his first no-hitter, it felt like every single start could end with another no-no. that was thrilling to watch in person or on tv. don baylor's mvp season in '79 was fantastic fun. guy hit the ball harder than anyone i can remember. reggie's first season in anaheim was a blast to watch. salmon and his rock steady approach. he was putting up some pretty impressive numbers, something the angels hadn't had a lot of in their past. whenever vladdy came up, especially in '04, each at bat was simply a remote dropper. i couldn't wait to see what he was going to do next. and trout - well, just brilliant each and every time he's on the field or at the plate. we are blessed to have him on our team and see him day in day out. -

tough choice indeed. i voted for wally joyner. his first two seasons were completely out of the blue (plus i know trout and ryan will probably get most of the votes). -
jealousy is a very ugly color on you.

better than the first two. Harry waved at me.

i forgot there was a game last night. looks like the boys forgot there was one, too.

What do you want to read about in spring training?
Tank replied to Jeff Fletcher's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
i'm a golfer and i always find it interesting about what equipment the pros are using. i don't know how well that would translate to baseball, but i'm interested in something like how a player chooses his bats, their size, color, etc. i'm also curious to hear what pitches pitchers are working on, how they strengthen their arms, their warm up procedures, etc. does sosh plan to try anything new this year that he can talk about publicly? does he rely on the same strategies he's used in the past? how does he use stats in sizing up an opponent? what do pitchers and catchers talk about in their pregame planning sessions? how do hitters prepare to face certain pitchers? -
Thanks for the explanations, gents.
