  1. Once that I'm aware of. That seems to have been more than enough times for it to have been used.
  2. No hypocrisy at all. Look at all of the celebrity stalkers that are out there. Look at how many celebrity homesick have been broken into by people just wanting to be close to them. I have no issue with celebrities hiring security to protect them and their families. To suggest they give up their armed security during a time when the crazies are multiplying, as if it's some kind of overt committment to a safer society, is silly and foolish, and potentially deadly. Secret service protection for presidential families shouldn't even be up for discussion. I can't begin to imagine the kinds of threats Obama and his family received over the years, especially the number of racial threats that must have come in. We'd all probably be overwhelmed to hear about how many it was, and how specific they probably were. I'd probably feel differently if it was celebrities and athletes arming themselves to take care of threats.
  3. I'd sure like to know what this kid said that warranted this kind of reaction.
  4. when the alarm sounds, when am i supposed to go get the gun? i'm going to have full of kids who are going to be pissing their pants when the lockdown alarm sounds. not only do i have to get them into the safest place possible, i have to get them quiet, which will be no easy task with a bunch of 12/13 year olds in an emergency. i'm also tasked with helping them as much as possible to be settled down and to follow my directions. i don't think people realize how big of a job this is going to be under those circumstances. leaving them to go to a safe and fetch my glock will directly take me away from them at a time when they're going to need me to be with them every single microsecond. and this is for kids that are older and supposedly more mature. you know what i did yesterday? i had to talk to my 7th graders about what to do if a shooter came into our room and shot me, then left. Eff that. you want me and the kids to be safe, then build a friggin' fortress around my school so the crazies can't get on campus. hire security guards to intercept them at any point along the way. arming teachers and asking them to turn off their compassion to aim and fire at someone who very likely is a former student is not within the realm of possible for roughly 99.99% of us, especially older teachers. arming teachers is not the solution to this problem.
  5. defending the kids should be done by people other than the teachers. guns in the classrooms should be the absolute final, last resort. hire security guards - enough of them - so that they can hopefully head off any intruders prior to them reaching areas where students are. this would also require schools to tighten up their entry points on every campus. tighten those up first and foremost, reducing ways shooters can gain access before we talk about about strapping them.
  6. a completely empty gesture on their part that looks sincere but isn't, especially when compared to what florida legislators did (or didn't do) just one day earlier: "Passage came one day after lawmakers in the House failed to pass a motion advancing a bill to ban assault rifles."
  7. yep, nobody wants to give in on their position. there is no compromise on this issue, so the status quo remains firmly in place. meanwhile, we all prepare to be outraged again when the next school shooting happens in a week or two.
  8. if we keep doing the status quo, absolutely nothing will change. this idleness we're stuck in right now isn't accomplishing anything. i agree that it can't be just an emotional appeal, but nothing is being done on ANY level. something's got to change. i'm a big fan of the kids from florida doing what they're doing right now because they see the inactivity of the adults in their lives and they aren't satisfied with it. i hope several positive things come from their actions.
  9. 1. i don't own a gun 2. the last time i shot a real gun was 1975 or 76. 3. the last time i fired any kind of weapon was a paintball gun at my brothers' bachelor party in 1991.
  10. by that standard, victor's mom would be a trillionaire.
  11. maybe we need an emotional plea from someone who has had to deal with victim's of a shooting like this to wake up and get rid of certain weapons at our disposal that have no business being at our disposal in the first place. clearly, there are certain guns that go beyond a reasonable application of the right to bear arms. the AR 15 is one of them.
  12. i know, that's why i said something. imagine the possibilities with your own official gear.
  13. i think we can all agree on one thing here . . . alicia silverstone needs to make more movies.
  14. sure, i can see that as a conclusion. did you read the article? he goes into pretty good detail about the damage an AR15 causes vs. damage from a pistol. it's worth a read.
  15. https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2018/02/what-i-saw-treating-the-victims-from-parkland-should-change-the-debate-on-guns/553937/?utm_source=fbb
  16. look, i don't care how many ways you put it - i'm NOT coming out of retirement!! please stop asking.
  17. glad to see none of them snapped a leg at the finish...
