  1. Its funny because it's only been in recent years where they took their time with the first ten rounds.. They used to fly from it from the start -- but as more and more people go tinto the other drafts and the internet grew, baseball finally decided to make their draft more of an event... I think its awesome that Mike Trout will always be remembered as the first guy to show up in studio for the draft.
  2. CFs can move anywhere in the OF, or the IF corners more often than not. I think this is Epp being true to the old saber principles of adding players from the plus end of the defensive spectrum out... He's definitely shown a propensity to pursue certain qualities/abilities. The more I see of Epp the more I like the way he goes about things. I know when he came aboard he said he wasn't as into sabermetrics as some, but everything he's done since coming here has shown him to be much more inclined to follow saber principles than any of his immediate predecessors.
  3. @totdprods Yep.. gonna have to agree with Ettin, Mark is totally talking about the Louisville Cardinals... Don't hate me - it needed to be done.
  4. LOL -- if you mouse over the CA flag next to his name it says -- born in Canada... Canada, California -- same difference
  5. Jonathan Mayo had the funniest look on his face when he found out he had been throwing upper 90s his senior year -- was neat to hear Sutton bring up the stats for some of our picks then say stuff like. "If you're finding guys that performed like this, you are doing your scouting". Further proof that things have changed in Anaheim.
  6. This gif was great then and great now... BTW -- Taylor, you're right -- really is great to go back and re-read this. Also worth looking at how some of the guys people wanted have done. Daz Cameron has been awful -- DJ Peterson is still fluffy and hasnt shown much of anything...
  7. Man, if you gotta start picking college seniors you may as well chase guys who put up video game numbers...
  8. They can just return to college and get drafted two more times if they really wanted. So, a lot of leverage.
  9. Maybe -- but Harrington fired Tanzer, hired Boras and then watched as he turned down a second contract offer for more than 1 mil because he wanted twice that ... At some point the kid should have said -- hey, this is my money you're playing poker with.
  10. You're right.. A guy having TJ surgery is no reason to sit him down. Totally obvious...
  11. Yep, the days when teams could throw first round money at guys in later rounds is gone.

  13. As a senior -- doesn't matter how well he pitched he'd have zero leverage other than sitting out for year.... Hopefully they both want to sign.
  14. He was also the product of a broken home, a petty criminal, and notoriously uneducated -- he was completely illiterate. But yes, it would be wise to give Adell the time he needs.
  15. Read every article on Jo Adell then... He's not dead yet...
  16. Not sure if this has been posted in any of the other draft threads -- http://theundefeated.com/features/jordon-adell-is-poised-to-fulfill-his-destiny-in-mlb-draft/?addata=espn:mlb:index Good read...
  17. Frank was a behemoth when he was drafted.. Absolute monster of a human being.
  18. No, and No... Just not a big guy and his MRI showed something that created risk. Whether it was simply signs of fatigue or an issue -- nobody has any real knowledge of.
  19. Yep -- there is definitely some shell shock for me too.. I agree his size AND whatever is on that MRI is likely scaring teams off.. He's not a 6'6' 230 pound beast of a pitcher, so any concern about durability has to be taken seriously.. Let's hope he's got some Tim Hudson in him... another smallish RHP with nothing better than a MLB average FB.
  20. Right off.... that article talks about Griffin having an injury.. What injury? They have manufactured an injury that never occurred, to the best of my knowledge he hasn't been injured since his stress fracture as a freshman. The entire argument against taking Canning is based on the premise that the MRI (which you haven't seen nor has any of these sites), shows damage. You're guessing, everyone is, but we are all completely ignorant as to what's on there. The Angels have presumably seen it just as they saw Meyer's last summer when they traded for him and he was on the DL. I get being worried about a guy being damaged goods and the concerns about his workload are legit -- that's primarily why I didn't think they would take him, but it's just as likely that the thing scaring off teams is nothing more than inflammation of some kind due to his usage -- signs of fatigue are enough for a lot of teams to steer clear of a guy. First and second rounders are an immediate expenditure of $$ and given how the draft works now, teams are probably less willing to risk how they spend their draft allocations than in the past -- but, there has been no injury, no drop in velocity, no drop off in performance... The entire thing seems more a case of teams playing it safe than there being a Brady Aiken type red flag in his medicals. Anyway, the best way the Angels can mitigate some of the concerns is keep him out of games after signing him, and then limiting his pitch counts his first year in pro ball. He's been at 109 and 119 innings the last two years -- so, hopefully they keep him at a 90 pitch limit for most of next year and then slowly let him build off of that.
  21. He needs to be signed, throw a game and shut down.. UCLA rode him pretty hard -- he needs the rest.
  22. Wow -- Griffin Canning! I know there are injury concerns but.. LOL.... guy was thought of as a mid 1st rounder
  23. Don't know that I want him but... Will Crowe hasn't been taken yet.. Dude was hitting 98 MPH.
