  1. Love seeing Angels farmhands getting some recognition... Not gonna lie I laughed a bit when I saw these two names.... 11. Freddy Peralta, RHP, Brewers (21) Double-A Biloxi The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Peralta has what scouts call a “disappearing fastball," a combination of solid low-90s velocity, deception and ease of operation that elicits swings and misses and weak contact from his heater. He's ridden control of that fastball to a monster season, including a 0.40 ERA in 22.1 August innings. He's up to 12.7 strikeouts per nine over 114 innings, and his 161 strikeouts rank 10th in the minors. 4. Luiz Gohara, LHP, Braves (21) Gwinnett Braves Ronald Acuna isn't the only young sensation on the Triple-A Braves. Gohara has made a career-high 25 starts this season, tracked with Acuna through three levels and earned some CC Sabathia comparisons for his combination of size (he's bigger than his listed 6-foot-3, 210 pounds), lefthandedness and easy velocity, sitting 94 mph and up to 98 at his best fastball. With his feel for pitching and ability to manipulate the breaking ball, Gohara has the upside of a playoff rotation starter. Peralta was one of three pitching prospects Dipoto traded away for one year of Adam Lind. Gohara was one of two prospects traded away for Shae Simmons and Mallex Smith. Simmons missed the season with an injury -- Smith was traded with others for Drew Smyly who has missed the year and isn't likely to every throw a pitch for the Mariners... Gohara, Peralta, and Litell https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=littel000zac are all gone and the only thing they have to show for them ... James Pazos and Shae Simmons. One a middle reliever with a 1.4 career WHIP.... the other one has managed 7 MLB appearances since his TJ surgery in 2015.
  2. Yes... Then he would make two more trades to replace what he gave up to get him... then, another trade to replace those guys.. then, another two trades to replace those guys, then he'd trade Upton to get back to where he was before be traded for Upton. Dipotonomics 101.
  3. No idea how this will all work out but Eppler's quotes in Fletcher's article at the OCR are pretty satisfying as a fan. http://www.ocregister.com/2017/08/31/angels-add-slugger-justin-upton-in-deadline-deal/ “This team showed a lot of fight over the year,” Eppler said. “What we were starting to see, the punches were stronger. The guys were hitting harder. Their play warranted continued investment in this club.” Gotta think the players loved to see him say and do what he did....
  4. Well, if it's about the Ws.... he IS where the Angels are now.... two games behind them actually.
  5. Except all the measurable data taken from every batter in every at bat in MLB says it is. All three of those guys you mentioned posted a better OPS away than at home as Angels-- in Salmon's case nearly 40 points better. Glaus was kinda all over the place, he had one season where he was an absolute monster at home. It's likely all three of them would have put up better numbers had they played in other parks.
  6. In the last five years he's posted an OPS+ over 130 four times.... Then his bad year it was 119. His OPS+ over that time has been 151 -- for his career it's been 146. That's the sort of inconsistency I want to see the Angels move towards to. Let me try to further put this into perspective. Moustakas who many here seem enamored with has bested an OPS+ of 119 all of once in his career -- this season when it's at 121. Over the last five years he's managed an OPS+ of 100 -- Twice in the last five seasons he's failed to top an OPS+ of 77. For his career it's a mighty 97 and best of all -- he's a year older than Giancarlo Stanton. Giancarlo is a legit MVP threat in his prime locked in at 25 mil per year. Mike Moustakas is Gary Gaetti waiting to happen at close to 20 mil per.
  7. LOL.. You know, I bet there is one and I agree it would be hilarious to see it.
  8. I think it may be as simple as them knowing his defense doesn't need a lot of work. They may just be having him focus on making contact and pitch recognition. To be honest - that may not be a bad idea - those were the parts of his game that people were mixed about. Not that you are being critical -- but I'm finding myself questioning the Angels development staff a lot less lately. So many guys seeing improvements in their games in the areas they needed to improve in.
  9. I dont know where I fall in the beer snob flow chart. If I'm drinking beer I drink hefeweizens or any wheat beer really -- so, in that regard there is some snobbery going on but. I like all of them...
  10. Props to them... That's as classy as it gets.
  11. How about the fact that he got over?? The only reason he turned himself in was to avoid taking the drug test. By not taking the test and flunking it he was able to safeguard his paycheck. Then he played up the wounded maiden act as if he had been wronged... Props to his agent... Dude worked that situation to Hamilton's benefit. It wasn't the relapse that set Arte off -- it was how he wormed his way out of having to pay the consequences for his actions. He was a shady POS.
  12. Yeah man... crazy doesn't even begin to describe it. For a documentary it had a real cloak and dagger feel to it. Hope your Mom gets better....
  13. Just watched Icarus on Netflix -- a documentary revolving around doping in sports and the Russian Federation in particular. Another feather in Netflix's cap IMO.
  14. I'm not blaming the hitting coach for the awful, but I really do wish they would do whatever it takes to pry Chili Davis away from Boston. Not only would he be the best hitting coach this team has had, he would line up nicely as a MS replacement.
  15. Mike Trout Career August .292/.410/.536 - .946 Sept .289/.413/.511 - .924 Killer Cabrera Career August .321/.398/.567 - .933 Sept .312/.394/.534 - .928 Killer Cabrera's lowest OPS months are August and Sept... just like Mike Trout. It only seems worse with Trout because he's so much better than Killer when he's at his peak. Good Talk...
  16. Ditto.... The Dodgers and what they do stopped mattering to me the second Percy threw his fists up in the air....
  17. I liked it much better when Tim Salmon and Vladdy did that to them.....
  18. Pretty sure they changed the rules bc of that trade --- to avoid having a guy wait around til a year after his draft date.
  19. They both run well .... if only Maybin could stay healthy....
  20. Batting average is second to OBP at leadoff... Revere is hitting 20 points higher than Maybin while putting up an OBP 40 points lower... Not making outs is the name of the game at leadoff.
  21. Yep.. Not sure why everyone always glosses over the reality that Beltre has been legally using testosterone while the rest of MLB has to age naturally. He's been great -- no doubt. But so were all the other guys that got called to testify before congress.
  22. He's fine as a utility player IMO. But when the talk shifts to how he's a great leadoff hitter.... Well, no.
