  1. Where are you getting your data.. it's not at all matching up with the info I have I have the BP ERA as 6th lowest in MLB, their BAA 8th. I have the SP ERA as 14th overall in MLB, their BAA 15th. The problem our SP has had all year... .459 SLG% allowed... 22nd in MLB. The bullpen has been really good
  2. My thoughts are that the SP needs to go more than 3 innings.. The RP is looking bad because they are being asked to go 6+ innings a night.
  3. I don't really think there has been anyone that was opposed to Revere as a reserve OFer.... The belief he's a legit leadoff hitter --- that's a different story.
  4. Thats why I referenced Orlando Palmiero. Palmiero didn't hit for any power at all.. but he could play all over the OF, he got on base, he made contact and when he got on base he could be counted on to go 1st to 3rd and do all the little crap that nobody puts any attention to but non-regulars always tend to mess up. Revere wouldn't milk walks like OP did, but he's a pretty sure bet for a .275 average and when he does reach base he makes crap happen. He's the perfect guy for that role on this team, but he may want a bigger role and may be able to get that elsewhere. I do hope he comes back.
  5. He's been around forever -- I know he'd like to get another starting gig but they really should be talking to him about bringing him back in his current role. I don't want him at the top of the order, but as a speed guy, PH, he's a pretty decent option. The Angels need a new Orlando Palmiero.
  6. There was a lengthy ESPN article that pretty much went over the AP timeline and JD's involvement.. That entire article was seemingly forgotten about when the signing started to look bad and the blame needed to be passed out.. Hamilton -- I can see that being Arte but there was no question JD was completely involved in the AP chase.
  7. He's a lot worse... consider this.. his FIP of 6.42 means you could argue he's been lucky to have a 6.20 ERA..
  8. Not making the playoffs at all but having a stud pitcher to throw in them worked out well after the Grienke deal.
  9. And getting to that one game? OPS+ Houston 129 Baltimore 104 Minnesota 103 Cleveland 100 New York 100 Seattle 99 Texas 96 Boston 94 Angels 91 ERA+ Cleveland 132 Boston 123 New York 120 Angels 104 Texas 103 Houston 96 Minnesota 96 Seattle 95 Baltimore 90 Pitching does indeed win championships but playoff baseball isn't the same as 162 game baseball. You don't have off-days every second day in the regular season, you can't go with a 3 or 4 man rotation like you can in the postseason. You can't pitch everyone a couple innings over 162 games like you could in a one game play in. Once the postseason starts it's a matter of getting hot..
  10. Skaggs is the new Chuck Finley .vs Texas.. They own him.
  11. When the lineup is out and AP is batting third....
  12. AJ, of course you're right.. A team doesnt lose 5 SP and 3 RPs for an extended period of time and stay in contention without depth. I think the reason there is still talk about the Angels lacking depth is because they don't view guys like Scribner as depth... Matt Shoemaker wasn't considered depth. Nick Tropeano led the PCL in ERA and wasn't considered a prospect by many so he wasn't seen as depth -- at least not by pundits and minor league analysts... I think the one thing we have a much better gauge on in year two of Eppler's tenure is his ability to create depth without expending a ton of resources.. I thin Ettin, or possible Dochalo have talked about it at times -- but I fully believe the Angels' Saber-team has found something they believe translates well and that is currently being undervalued by other teams. They have hit on too many cast offs for it to just be luck.
  13. Cole Deunsing (sp), there are a few others. I mentioned those others by name because they are the lesser known Latin American guys -- but they are turning heads.... Like you said -- a really good mix of floor vs ceiling now.
  14. It's no longer just us .. Fangraphs prospect chat a couple weeks ago was talking about the Angels and their sudden riches of projectable Latin American arms... There are guys sneaking into the BBA hot lists much more regularly... This team is still a couple years away from real depth -- but it's no longer barren and we as fans are no longer looking at one guy and putting all our hopes on them because if they flame out -- it's RIP time.
  15. Jose Suarez, Jose Soriano, Hector Yan, Elvin Rodriguez... We haven't had a collection of 18/19 year old arms that were both that good and projectable in eons... They won't all pan out obviously but at least we have a selection of guys to fail as starters and end up being solid RPs...
  16. Top 5 best overall prospects 1 - Jo Adell 2 - Jahmai Jones 3 - Brandon Marsh 4 - Jaime Barria 5 - Elvin Rodriguez/Jose Soriano Top 5 closest to MLB 1 - Barria 2 - Hermosillo 3 - Thaiss 4 - Ward 5 - Fletcher As others have said -- I think Hunter Jr is a bit of a wild card. More importantly -- there are a lot more guys that merit top 5 consideration than in the past, when both talking about projection or probability. I stuck to top 5s because IMO, 6-10 is actually a crowded conversation these days. World of difference.
  17. Good Lord... can you please just stop with the stupid... http://www.espn.com/mlb/stats/rpi/_/sort/sos Fourth toughest schedule in 2017...
