  1. Stoneman.. Clay Daniels was an amazing judge of talent -- the dude was just corrupt. Donny Rowland was similarly amazing at his job, but he was a major douchebag. They were both twats but that didn't mean they weren't good at their jobs.
  2. Or a person could have a clue, know he was was coming back from TJ surgery and that the coaches were having him alter his arm slot to a 3/4 angle.... His ERA was crap but he had turned a corner ..... the the only thing that mattered that final year in the Angels system was that his velocity was in the upper 90s and he was 100% pain free. Clevinger's stuff was easily the best in the system when he was traded. Besides the FB, the dude was dropping 12-6 curves behind his slider, and the arm slot change completely altered how he was able to command his off speed pitches. That one change basically made his change up go from his worst offering to his best... Cleveland benefited from the changes the Angels made, and Jerry Dipoto's "genius".
  3. I was high on him, probably more than most but, I'm okay with with the deal still. Like I said a few pages back... this is likely the first time in a very long time where we have an actual grouping of 18/19 year old pitchers with upside -- we were legitimately in a position to jump at something. It will sting if and when Upton opts out, but I think the trade sent the right message to fans and players alike. Its a long shot but hopefully Upton chooses to stay.
  4. The real issue was that at his worst he was still better than either of the two guys Jerry brought in to replace him .. Hanson, Blanton.
  5. So... another Angels player hits 3 HRs in a playoff game??
  6. Good Lord man. He was dismissing the W/L.... Basically he was arguing the exact opposite.
  7. Yep. Newcomb will be fine. The Angels and Braves both got what they wanted -- with the Angels possibly getting more than they may have expected.
  8. What happened to checking back in August on the Angels' situation. It's September 9th -- the team is one game out of WC -- Moreno approved the $$ for Upton and to a much lesser degree Phillips... So many narratives destroyed..
  9. Fine -- but my disdain for Baldoquin and Puig evens that out..
  10. Huge fan of Vic's best PBP guy we have had in a long long time. My buddy in Boston, hard core Red Sox prick first started watching Angels games cause of Trout, but he's always telling me he finds himself tuning in a lot of times because he's grown to like Victor so much, even more so after they cut loose Don Orsillo (who is great and does Padres games now).
  11. Man, the comments section of that article is comedy gold... So much praise for Baldoquin and his swing...
  12. I'm in South FL.... It's impossible not to pay attention -- they are already talking about Jose as well. Home Depot is running low on Plywood, gas stations are closed left and right and water has already been sucked up left and right... This is far and away the most hectic it's been the five years I've been out here -- there is a definite panic and not the typical "party" mood that comes with incoming hurricanes. Lots of PSA's regarding shelters and who to call. I've got 4, 5 gallon jugs of water, a grill and two tanks of LP (most people out here have electric everything). I have a generator and enough fuel to keep my freezer running for a good 5-7 days... After that shit will spoil.. I'm on the 6th floor of a semi-high rise with hurricane windows and sliders so.... I won't have to worry too much about flooding or the winds -- but it's gonna be interesting to see how it goes.
  13. Is there a defensive metric you do put value in? DRS maybe? http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=lf&stats=fld&lg=all&qual=y&type=1&season=2017&month=0&season1=2017&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0 He grades out well there.. He seems to rank well in a lot of the advance defensive metrics this year -- so, it may just be a case of a guy getting used to a new park and the lighting. Dunno. I havent seen enough of him to have an opinion as to whether or not he passes the eye test.
  14. I thought it was more a case of Fister not wanting to stay down in AAA any longer? Didn't he opt out?
  15. Hernandez trade was making a move when the team had lost four of six and were four games under .500. I think at that point the front office may have been throwing in the towel... Luckily for us.... the team said "no".
  16. Actually ... I see what you're doing. You have the ERA ranked from worst to first -- Thus your ranking the bullpen 11th and not 5th. That's the number that stuck out as completely off base. http://www.espn.com/mlb/stats/team/_/stat/pitching/split/128/league/al/order/false
  17. Yeah, not sure which of the splits you may have had up when you listed the numbers -- doesn't really matter your point stands. Anyway, the numbers I posted are the overall numbers for the SP and RP respectively this far in 2017 ... also from ESPN.. The park weighted data would bring the Angels overall rankings down a bit, but overall the pitching has amazingly held it's own.
