  1. And he's failing at the bargain game. Morin will earn more than Ohtani...
  2. You'll always have the big guns Jerry...
  3. Not gonna lie -- I think you're seeing these sorts of reports because Preller is one of the GMs involved in the situation. Old sins cast long shadows...
  4. Here you go... https://www.baseballamerica.com/international/hiring-of-preller-also-brings-news-of-suspension/#IxkbJJzUbMXkUeQP.97 and this is a good reporting of his suspension with the Padres https://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/padres-got-what-they-paid-for-in-suspended-a-j-preller-091516 He's a shady POS.
  5. Yup.... First time was while he was in charge of the Rangers international program.... He got popped for something shady and suspended... Then again as The Padres, GM.
  6. JD was quoted the other day as saying he values positional flexibility.... his new thing. To that end they are talking about letting Gamel, a career OFer get innings at 1B. They have talked about Healey and his iron glove getting some time at 3B. They have mentioned Cruz in RF when talking about Ohtani and now Dee Gordon is going to play some CF. Looking forward to the Mariners acquisition of Arrieta to play catcher. Never chance Jerry -- never change.
  7. If Japanese culture is at play then I wonder if quitting the way JD did is high on the honor meter in Japan...
  8. LOL -- you beat me to it. Preller has twice been suspended by MLB for being shady -- would be HILARIOUS if they win and then MLB refuses to allow them to sign him...
  9. F, cooler... The only cool thing about him signing with the Padres is it would mean nobody else in the AL West got him either...
  10. Kid went from living in a country where even the wealthy are struggling to get foodstuffs to one where there is a McDonalds every three blocks... He got fat.... I'm more concerned about his swing having gone to shit than the body stuff... He gets a mulligan from me too.
  11. Yep, its feeling like another round of collusion.
  12. Considering all the talk entering the offseason was that the Angels wouldn't even bother looking at him, I'm just happy to see Eppler is being true to his word and they are looking at every avenue available when looking to acquire talent. Ohtani's going to be a huge help to whatever team he signs with but you throw him into the mix with Trout, Simmons, an Upton. bam.. the Angels suddenly have a pretty solid foundation of players...
  13. If not held there then someone needs to slide one of the old table numbers onto the table before they start the meeting. Can't hurt.
  14. Dude, you would think they might try that -- he's supposedly really well liked in Japan in part because he's actually a funny dude.. Gotta figure Ohtani has seen his show or his work as a sportscaster out there. Ichiro loved the guy too... Shig also has some insight into MS as a manager.
  15. Shig heads a baseball talk show in Japan and sells real estate out of Irvine.. Having lived in both Seattle and OC, he chose OC to settle in.
  16. I hope the Angels meet with Ohtani after Jerry and the Mariners have "brought out their big guns" so that Billy opens his presentation with "You know pretty much everything that guy just told you was bullshit right?" I think Jerry's gift of gab plays well in this, and I hope our boy Opie Taylor's more sincere approach resonates with Ohtani and his camp.
  17. Bud Norris, Blake Parker, David Hernandez, and Petit combined to make 5.1 mil in base salary last year.. I'm guessing the ease of acquisition and costs involved with those moves impacted the Angels thought processes.
  18. So, the only thing missing is "Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound"....
  19. My personal opinion is the Angels see the writing on the wall with AP and aren't as concerned with that as they are in competing in general. They will continue to say and do all the right things so long as AP is an Angel but a team that has seemingly taken to analytics isn't likely to delude itself as to what to expect from AP. No doubt having someone to spell AP can only help to keep him fresh but i think that would be more fluff than actual reasoning.
