  1. As I said -- square peg, round hole.. You're trying to create a layer of versatility where it doesn't exist. Headley hasn't played the OF in ANY capacity since 2009 when he was 25. It's 2018. Do you really believe he's suddenly going to be a capable back up OFer 9 years later? I'm gonna go out on a limb and argue the team can find a better OF option for less than 13 mil a year, one that wont require the Angels give anyone up.
  2. ..... and Ohtani likely heard of Pujols, knows what position he plays and was aware of what the situation was.. Still he chose the Angels... That was my point... FWIW -- I'm worried the Angels will play the lesser player because of the resume too. But, I'm going to wait and see how things develop.
  3. This and all those marketing reasons you talked about are why he chose to sign with the Yankees.
  4. That's more an indictment of the 2017 Angels offense than any real validation of Chase Headley isn't it? Steamer is projecting Headley for 1.0 fWAR and WRc of 90 That 1.0 would rank 8th behind in 2018 behind the projections for Trout, Simmons, Cozart, Calhoun, Kinsler, Upton, and Maldonado,... just ahead of Cron who they project for 0.8 WAR in under 400 plate apperances. Move Headley over to first and his projection likely goes south, because his subpar offense doesn't play as well at 1B as it does at 3B for WAR formulas. Headley is a square peg being forced into a round hole at a position where there are already too many odd fitting pegs.
  5. I don't get the fascination with Headley. The ability to switch hit? Dude posted a 100 OPS+ last year and his road SLG% was .376 -- the year before it was .362, the year before that it was .372.... The only time in the last three years he's posted a bWAR better than 1.8. it was thanks to a great defensive season at 3B -- He wouldn't be manning 3B in Anaheim unless something bad happened. Move him across the diamond and it may improve the team defense but other than some solid OBP, the offense likely gets worse. Not sure he improves the defense enough to make it worthwhile -- and Im a huge fan of run prevention. Cron isn't much but he's been good for an OPS+ of 108 for his career -- during that time Headley's come in at 95. Valbuena... 110. So how does getting rid of two guys to get a back up 3B help this team?
  6. That guy's chats are like a PR service for him.. it's actually gotten to be quite comical to see how much he doubles down on narratives that have been pretty much proven false.
  7. Breathe.... Not that it matters but I don't see you as an outsider at all... In fact, you're around enough and I've seen enough of your posts that I genuinely believed you'd be more familiar with Ettin and his style... Thats all Im saying...
  8. I get that -- I gave you a reason WHY he may have done that. Hicks career OPS+ prior to last year was, 77. Ellsbury for all the talk about how awful he's been as a Yankeee has posted a OPS+ of 95 during his time in Pinstripes and 97 last year.. Aaron Hicks through his age 27 season has a career OPS+ of 86 and 5.8 WAR. Cameron Maybin was at 8.8 WAR and a OPS+ of 87. Btw... Did you happen to notice the disclaimer in the picture you linked.... The one that makes it clear the depth chart is projected by mlb.com and isn't subject to Yankees approval?... Bet you didnt .
  9. Or he's dismissing his 2017 season in favor of the .223/.299/.346 (77 OPS+) batting line he had for his career prior to last war. I like Hicks, but he's only had the one good season and turns 28 this year.
  10. The Mike Mussina effect..... Because of Mike, pretty much every Stanford pitcher to come out of there has been overrated by scouts, or rather they underrate the crazy workloads Mark Marquess put on his SPs... Mike was a completely different animal in college, he threw about 27 different pitches and typically saved his circle change and other low effort offerings for later in games, so while he piled on the innings he tended to throw oddball stuff later in games and didn't typically ring up high pitch counts.. That, and his only having pitched 45 or so innings the year before he was drafted really helped him avoid the injuries and fading stuff that most Cardinal SPs have seen. Stan Spencer, a fellow first round pick out of Stanford that year.. a year younger and much harder thrower than Mike pretty much out-performed him their final season at Stanford -- better K rate, fewer base-runners both via hit and BB -- but he was a max effort guy who piled on the pitch counts.. His arm never recovered from the high pitch counts his final year there, almost immediately he went from upper 90s to lower 90s.. Dude had a cannon, the size MLB teams used to love 6'4, 225.... But the huge jump in pitch counts that final season wrecked him.
  11. I don't -- he genuinely seems like a good dude. I do however HOPE he gets a huge offer to return to the West coast just so Yankee fans go into butthurt mode. I'd get a giggle out of that.
  12. Even funnier when people can't tell a tongue in cheek comment.... Sometimes a person has to consider the source when they are responding. Ettin is far from a homer, I doubt he'd rank the Angels MLB OF depth above that of the Yankees Beyond that, he said systems, not actual OFs...
  13. Check out Lookout Landing... You'll see a lot of the same excuses and reasoning. Jerry's charisma buys him a lot of leeway or so it seems
  14. Wasn't the guy who did that an actual Native American? At least that's what was always said when he would come out and do his thing...
  15. There is no money to be made in finding cures.... Given all the beneficial aspects of Aspirin, if they discovered it today it would be ridiculously expensive.
  16. And owners are getting 50 mil from the sale of BAM....
  17. His defense was really that good. Dude racked up 10 dWAR in the span of 5 seasons at one point.
  18. Washington Bullets! Didn't Mission Viejo HS drop the devil mascot/image from their helmets due to some bullet too?
  19. Let a couple T-Rexes loose in the OF and make playing defense a legit thing too.
  20. This is a healthy POV ... I don't really make the connection between the Sambo character and Chief Wahoo but, that's likely because the only association I made was to it being a mascot of sorts. There is no denying the racism behind Sambo. To be perfectly frank, I'm good with them getting rid of it if for no other reason to have the debate over whether it's offensive or not come to an end.
  21. Funny, I watched those cartoons and never made any negative connections to Native Americans -- guess my parents taught me right.
