  1. LOL... Doesn't know what he's talking about -- accuses someone else of "blindly believing".... Sorry Champ.. I'm not the one guilty of blindly believing anything.. in this case it's you and your own BS... But keep telling yourself you know everything, including how others view and interpret information.
  2. He was... and yet was also projected to remain below average. Both Steamer and ZIPS projected both his OBP and SLG% to go down -- they both saw him as getting WORSE. I bet you thought you made a point...
  3. Yep.. He's been a complete drain.
  4. Projections aren't perfect -- nobody has ever said they are and anyone expecting them to be in order to give them any credence is a fool. They are an attempt at an educated guess based on actual data and actual historical trends, park, age and league indexes.... not just fan driven whims. Everything you are using to discredit them is subjective... except for the idiocy where you claim they are based on optimal situations -- they are in fact guilty of the complete opposite. As far as your subjective "analysis" goes.... It's up to YOU to decide if something is being done right because well -- You're just smarter and everyone else should listen to you. Like when you droned and on and on about not using the 50 save guy and pointed to him as the obvious best choice to use as a closer. When employed in that capacity he's been complete garbage, but in the mind of the super genius fan -- it was OBVIOUS. Meanwhile all the predictive data the last four or five years shows he isn't that guy anymore and likely shouldn't be used like that .. Try educating yourself on how something works before you run your mouth talking about why it doesn't. You not understanding something doesn't mean it doesn't make sense. But please, feel free to tell me how your ignorance is on me or how my being aware of how something actually works is a liability when actually discussing the matter.
  5. Another super-fan talking out his ass about something he doesn't know jack shit about. Take five seconds and look up what projections are based on. They compare a player's career arc to players with the same historical trends -- throw in age/park/league related indexes and then try to determine a projection based on how those hundreds of players they most similarly compare to aged.. There is no manipulation -- the problem is there is no certainty. Projections systems tend to miss the most on younger players -- because early career numbers tend to have the greatest amount of volatility. The only certainty that comes with projections is that there is always someone so full of their own opinions they dismiss them..
  6. Please stop talking ... Youre only proving what a blithering idiot you really are. Here are the actual pre-season projections for Cozart ZIPS - .249/.317/.419 - 98 wRC+ Steamer - 244/.313/.407 - 95 wRC+ To date he's put up a 93 wRC+ Projection systems tend to dismiss outlier seasons in favor of the bigger picture - they also tend to trend down for players 32+ But thanks again for providing the message board with your usual useless BS.
  7. So, when you pointed out the Mariners are on pace to win 96 games you just threw that out there for no reason? You don't actually believe they are that good? So, in that case, your comment was just .. what... bullshit? Yes, you are right -- everyone knows you're full of it. Fun chatting with you as always.
  8. So.. projections based on actual historical performances are trash -- but expectations based on fandom are not.
  9. The preseason projections had the Angels behind the Yanks/Sox, and Twins as a WC hopeful. The Twins and everyone in the AL Central have tanked. The Yanks and the Sox have come out like gangbusters. Seattle holds the second wild card spot.. Its hilarious you are so willing to buy into the smoke and mirrors of one team while constantly dismissing the Angels. Anyone with a working brain stem that buys into your BS over BS projections is well... dim.
  10. From the article: The Angels finally have a system worth boasting about -- and that's even after the graduation of Shohei Ohtani -- and they seem to trust this group enough to really test its talents early in 2018.
  11. Mike Scioscia needs to plan a team field trip to a Toronto area Weight Watchers so that nature takes it's slump busting course....
  12. Yep... He entered today's game with an OPS+ of 97... He's not an issue -- Kinsler, AP, Calhoun... they are the problems.
  13. This is exactly what the Rays did with David Price the year after drafting him first overall.
  14. Meh it was easy to be negative/pessimistic in those days, the wounds were all still very fresh.. There was still a lot of doubt as to how much truly fell on Arte .vs JD and nobody had any real clue what Eppler was bringing to the table ... This thread is neat to look at because we have a lot more info now. Jerry moved on to Seattle and repeated a lot of his actions up there -- nobody really believes his roster construction was due to Arte handcuffing him anymore, at least they shouldn't.. Arte is no longer viewed as meddlesome... he's sat back and let his GM do his job, he's given him the payroll when he wanted to spend it and best of all, Eppler turned out to be the GM we had hoped Jerry would be.. Three years ago optimists and pessimists alike were terrified we were on our way back to becoming the 1993 Angels.... In Eppler we trust (now do something about the pen).
  15. @Dochalo Looks like MacKinnon is among the people being moved up a level. Steve Wendt‏ @steve_wendt 34m34 minutes ago More .@66ersBaseball roster moves 5/22: OF Brandon Sandoval, INF Luis Rengifo, INF Jared Walsh and RHP Tyler Stevens all transferred to Double-A Mobile. INF Richie Fecteau activated from Disabled List. INF David MacKinnon and OF Jo Adell transferred from Low-A Burlington.
  16. I expected Walsh and Sandoval to be promoted -- with Ryan Vega starting to play in High A, we now have three of our more athletic OFers there -- it wouldn't surprise me to see someone sent down to Low A, or yet another move up to Mobile. AAA is gonna be interesting -- you gotta figure some guys may be seeing their playtime greatly diminished. Also very curious if the Cowart super sub expirment kicks into overdrive now.
  17. Meyer, Ramirez, Shoe, Middleton, Wood... All could have been BP options.. The injury bug always hits where you are weakest.... or so it seems.
  18. The Atlantic has a mock draft up -- another in a long line of great articles over there... https://theathletic.com/363388/2018/05/22/2018-mlb-mock-draft-casey-mize-goes-no-1-but-who-will-follow/ The Angels bit... 17. Los Angeles Angels (slot value: $3,472,900)Selection: Jackson Kowar, RHP, FloridaThe Angels aren’t married to a particular type of prospect, as they have vacillated between college and high school picks in the first round in recent years. They’ll have plenty of options at this spot, but Kowar would give them a potentially fast-rising starting pitching prospect to go along with last year’s second-round selection Griffin Canning. Kowar has been overshadowed by Singer this year at Florida, but the right-hander is an excellent prospect in his own right. He has a 2.56 ERA in 81 innings this season and is striking out nearly a batter an inning. He’s pitched on big stages and already has a big league changeup in his arsenal.
  19. Are they going to play 120 games .vs the AL Central? Because more than half their wins are .vs the worst division in MLB... The top team in the Central is one game under .500. They have played 23 games .vs the Central, nobody else in the AL West has more than 10. Fourth easiest schedule in MLB so far this season -- behind who else.. 3 AL Central teams.
  20. That guy letting us in on "But the Mariners", should get POTY award.
  21. The Angels have forgone that type of insurance under Arte. Insurance on contracts typically has to be renewed every 3 years, on average only covers about 50%-60% of the total salary and the costs involved are supposedly anywhere between 10-20% of the annual salary.
  22. He's never been the same since the oblique or abdominal strain .. Velocity hasnt ever recovered.
  23. JMF is 30... The two middle IFers we got from Bravesgate will likely start the season in short-season ball. They are basically HS seniors.
