Active Hall of Famers

Recommended Posts

If they retired today, which active Major Leaguers do you believe would be elected to the Hall of Fame based on their career to date? (Besides Mike Trout, of course.)

I'll go Jeter, Ichiro, Pujols. Probably Halladay and Beltre. (Mariano Rivera isn't active any longer, but of course he's in, too.)

Who else?

Yadier Molina

David Ortiz

I dont think either one is HOF yet if they retire. I feel like player peaks are much shorter right now as well. If all the other known users are having trouble making, somebody like Ortiz who failed a test will have trouble making it.

Felix Hernandez must be getting close to HOF

He's an interesting case. Career counting totals aren't eye popping yet (110-86) for his career, but he has been one of the best starters in the game for most of his nine seasons. If he had to retire tomorrow due to injury, I don't think it'd be enough to get him in, though.

(Actually, he needs one more season regardless. He's only been active for nine.)

David Ortiz and Yadier Molina aren't even close to being HoF candidates.

I think other possible inductees include Verlander, McCutchen and Votto. Aside from the ones already listed, I'm having trouble thinking of other great players.

You have to have played 10 years in MLB in order to be eligible for the Hall of Fame.

Daivd Ortiz has been the media darling of baseball for 10 years.  He is closer than you think.  I think the media has erased the fact that he had a positive drug test completely from their memory and much of the baseball fans.
