Let the kid play. When I was a kid my uncle bought me a drum set and my mom took it away. I feel that if I had been allowed to pursue the drums I would not have spent my youth as an unambitious slackass but as an unambitious slackass who could play the drums. That could have made a world of difference.

Oh, he plays. We pull the mutes off when we know it won't bother the neighbors.

He is only 6 and has zero desire to play sports. All of his friends are playing soccer, basketball and baseball. So we were looking for an outlet for him. He loves music and we spent a lot of time in music stores seeing what, if anything, he gravitated to. Drums it is. I played when I was a teen and I play guitar now, so it is a fun way to spend time with him.
